1950's Camel Smoking Advert

- Camel is a brand of cigarettes that was introduced by American company R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in the summer of 1913. Most current Camel cigarettes contain a blend of Turkish tobacco and Virginia tobacco. Early in 2008 the blend was changed as was the package design. This is an advert form the early 50's in the USA where doctors advised you to smoke .. and smoke Camel!
My old man smoked camels for 40yrs.
For some strange reason he died of lung cancer
Thanks to his doctors‘advice. So sorry.

@Brayden Ozaeta its a joke
@Brayden Ozaeta no
in the eighties, when my wife was about to give birth in hospital, they still had a smoking room for the expectant mothers
That's nothing. Some pregnant women still request cigarettes while in labour.
Which country ?
Some women are not worth the sperm that was spent on their offspring.@@itsjemmabond
he's a doctor , he must be right . and a pretty gal means goodness so might as well smoke
Technically they never said it was healthy it was which doctors like the taste of camels. Although I am a casual smoker myself. I would try it not because it's healthy or not but because you would like the taste. Most people eat fried foods very often even after you hear the horror stories about you insides. At least back then you felt OK to have a smoke or have a big fry up without a big warning saying you going to die. Tabacco companies make more money now then they did back then so are warnings changing anything.

Cientific medicine always changes its mind, literally.
@@mleonardoviveros1735 Except the commercial's claims have nothing to do with science or medicine.
Back when even if you didn't smoke, smoking was permitted in your house
I remember that in the 80s
Imagine if they allowed weed commercials on TV.
It was everywhere.
Everybody smoked back then whether they liked it or not.
Even crack
Back then everyone smoked, I even remember teachers lounges in elementary school. They were full of smoking teachers.
In high school one of our history teachers smoked a pipe in the teacher's lounge.
in place i live im its fucking students
When I started teaching in 1989, teachers were allowed to smoke in the teacher's lounge. A few years later, the lounge became non smoking and an outdoor gazebo was constructed for teachers to smoke in. When the campus became non smoking, teachers would stand across the street in an alley to smoke.
Imagine your doctor diagnosing you while puffing away.
I felt the same when unhealthy looking people were lecturing us about getting injections 2020-24.
I suffered from chonic bronchitis as a child, was hospitalized almost died, my family MD would perform an exam while having one burning in the ashtray WTF!!! 😢💀💀☠
@@beagelnagel omg! I’m sorry that happened to you! I had severe asthma when I was a child, it was so bad that every time I had an asthma attack, I would have to end up in the emergency room. It was scary for me and my parents. It might’ve been because my lungs weren’t developed when I was born when they should’ve been, and we also had cats, but then we managed to get rid of the cats and my asthma has calmed down ever since 😊 I’m 12 now and my asthma is under control.

And also meat companies..
All those baby boomers smoking back then now need their cancer meds.
thank you very based
and they are more dangerous than tobacco
Now Doctors are recommending Fentanyl and OxyContin.
Capstan full strength was my doctor's choice back in the 1960s. This gave him plenty of vocal gravitas and a loud reassuring cough, which could be clearly heard in his waiting room. A very caring guy, though.
In the mid 50’s in our small town we had one doctor. He did house calls. When he came to our house he was carrying his little black bag and smoking.
In the 70s it was the same way.
As a kid, when i went to the doctor, he always had a cigarette going during the exam.
Try to get a doctor to come to your house now. LOL
...and you could smell the lead and the burning oil emanating from his cute little black car, as he slowly pulled away.
My Dad smoked 3 packs of camels for 60 years. He died a horrific death from lung cancer. Thanks tobacco companies!
The cigarette companies are evil. A half million Americans die from tobacco related disease each year. But, I'm sorry. Some of the blame is on your dad.
3 packs is overkill he must have been a chain smoker
My ex worked at a hospital
I was amazed at how many nurses smoked
Well travelled friend of mine said if you go to hospital in spain or italy you'll see the oncologists smoking with their patients outside
High stress jobs probably have more smokers I imagine. It's a great excuse to duck out for a "breather" pun most definitely intended.
I was a dishwasher in a hospital kitchen in high school & can confirm, I smoked with a lot of nurses outside
@@chillydawgg4354 nice of them to unplug, lift and move you outside for a smoke everytime.
Back then 'experts' said cigarettes were "Safe and effective".
It will be interesting to see what we got so wrong in the future.
Experimental vaccines, man made climate change, democracy is the best system, capitalism helps invention and cheapen the products, oil is finite resource, ev is better for the environment, we need politicians to lead us, we need cops to police us.
My bet would be cellphones

I haven’t smoked a cigarette in over 17 years. For some reason I still crave a smoke every day.
That’s torture
A man I worked with said that he had quit smoking for seven years and that from time to time he craved one so bad that he couldn't stand it.
You're a very strong person, not many have the strength to persevere through that. Be proud of yourself 😊
Only losers crave
A friend of mine quit 20+ years ago and says she still dreams about smoking sometimes.
It's absolutely brilliant! Just because more doctors smoke it, doesn't mean it's healthier, but our brain tells us that doctors (health professionals) recommend to smoke and more specifically Camel.
It's evil, it's deceptive, but I cannot help but love it.
And advertisers are still at it, selling products that feel good but aren't so good for the human body...and it's more nefarious than ever.
Maybe YOUR brain, not mine.
Listen the deception is coming for you to satisfy yourself. My grandmother smoked Kent's on her 94th birthday that'll give you something to digest in your ming .
And they used the flip side of it in anti-smoking PSAs
the marketing is still going on today with every food item on the shelf, even sneakier than before. Big Tobacco Phillip Morris owns Kraft food! talk about deceptive and evil! they hide in plain sight. The obesity epidemic causes early death, heart disease, cancer, ADHD, depression, autoimmune diseases. It is worse than cigarettes.
Shall we trust the Docs now as well.
Yes, get your cigarette with your booster!
@@Zodroo_TintLMAO 🤣
If you listen closely, you’ll notice they never actually say doctors endorse their product in the commercial. They’re just saying that a lot of doctors smoke them. Which could technically be true if a lot of people in general smoked their brand at that time.
Smartphones are the new cigarette.
Bud, the meth you're smoking isn't too good for you, either

You mean flavoured vapes.
I have some questions. Do you smoke your smartphones? If so, how? Why? And the most imporant question being: do you know plastic might melt your fingers?
@@vlecxius You using logical fallacy.
As a non smoker (I did try as a teenager to make myself 6 feet tall) I love the part about “good tasting”, I didn’t like the taste of burning cow shit or whatever in my mouth, so I didn’t persevere as my teenage mates told me, I’m pretty glad I didn’t now.

Good ol days when doctors prescribed healthy smoking habits to patients.
How could anyone actually believe that inhaling smoke and exhaling it would be good for your body?
It is though, there's a doctor smoking in this advert so it must be healthy.
Who knows? As the world goes by, more technology comes along and people get more educated and realised that the certain things they thought were good were actually bad

Back in 1957, when I was 12, I would go to our basement thinking I wouldn't be caught and I used to sneak a cigarette from my dad who was a doctor and 45 and smoked. He actually stopped smoking in 1958 or 1959. He realized it wasn't a good idea. PS......my dad lived to be 89 and was healthy his whole life. That's nothing: did you know that back in the day, they used the Flintstones to advertise cigarettes? In the early 80s, my dad's friends would be over at the house. Pot bellies ,smoke hanging out their mouths, and a beer in their hand. Looking at my motorcycle and telling me how dangerous they are.

I wonder what year was this exactly. The British Medical Journal reported on the link between smoking and lung cancer in 1950, I believe, and In 1962, the Royal College of Physicians (UK) started campaigning for cigarette advertising to be banned on TV. They were successful; the ban took effect in the summer of 1965 (though other tobacco products continued to be advertised for many years to come). It really does seem odd to see an ad in which doctors are supposedly endorsing a brand of cigarettes.
