  • Camel is a brand of cigarettes that was introduced by American company R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in the summer of 1913. Most current Camel cigarettes contain a blend of Turkish tobacco and Virginia tobacco. Early in 2008 the blend was changed as was the package design. This is an advert form the early 50's in the USA where doctors advised you to smoke .. and smoke Camel!

Technically they never said it was healthy it was which doctors like the taste of camels. Although I am a casual smoker myself. I would try it not because it's healthy or not but because you would like the taste. Most people eat fried foods very often even after you hear the horror stories about you insides. At least back then you felt OK to have a smoke or have a big fry up without a big warning saying you going to die. Tabacco companies make more money now then they did back then so are warnings changing anything.

That's nothing: did you know that back in the day, they used the Flintstones to advertise cigarettes? There's even a commercial that ends on the note of Fred singing that "it tastes good, like a cigarette should" as a way to promote this idea. It's quite disgusting to look back on, especially for someone like myself that cannot stand the smell of cigarette smoke

I wonder what year was this exactly. The British Medical Journal reported on the link between smoking and lung cancer in 1950, I believe, and In 1962, the Royal College of Physicians (UK) started campaigning for cigarette advertising to be banned on TV. They were successful; the ban took effect in the summer of 1965 (though other tobacco products continued to be advertised for many years to come). It really does seem odd to see an ad in which doctors are supposedly endorsing a brand of cigarettes. Having said that, as a very young kid, I do remember seeing my first family doctor smoking a pipe during an appointment (he diagnosed me with asthma!).
