I agree just leave it. Also the biggest issue I’m hearing here is that there is more than one designated sound guy and they’re letting people with no knowledge behind the board. That as bad as putting someone on keys in front of the Church that’s never played. If someone wants to be behind the board they are gonna need to study and show themselves approved.

I fixed it in seconds, he ignored it and did it again... and thennn I got blamed for interfering... we need a lot of PATIENCE when leading with people in general... (making a long story short)
They had someone come to my church (not sure if they were paid or just doing a favor) and actually had the sound as close to perfect as I'd ever heard. It only took an hour or two into service and 2 or 3 people fiddling with the board who had no clue whatsoever what any of those knobs do to ruin it again!

But after an hour of twisting & turnin & pushing every knob on the board, I gave up😪 And you’re absolutely right. If you have no frickin clue what ur doing, “just leave it.” Haha. The greatest advice I’ve come across so far 😅
Not everyone is a good choice to do sound. If you have no idea what eq does or general sound knowledge, or bad ears for what good sound sounds like or compression does, this position needs teaching. Not everyones wants t I rn into doing sound. You are providing an important part of the service. Be teachable. I have been doing sound and video for a long time. This video hit a lot of important ideals.
So I run my churches audio interface and I am the only one who toutches it, the guy before me was Proally in his 50-60’s and I’m only 15 so I reset everything and as church goes on I change it if needed, I’ve been doing it for about a year now so everything is set hoş it needs to be and I may make a few adjustments here and there but there is no order to my board because everything is different
Volunteers ? Lol my church had assigned members, some on payroll. If you didn’t know the basics you’re done😂 I had to learn basics and that got me my own permanent seat
funny story. i work at a camp with a theater venue for kids to showcase their talents. they have a nice ass soundboard, some very nice mics and nice speakers. only problem is NONE of them know how to operate that stuff nor set it up. There's always a problem with the mics giving so much feedback from small movements. I'm actually gonna ask if I could just go to the booth myself just to see whats going on, because im like 99% sure they're using the gain knob as volume and prob has every EQ effect raised high
This is very bad advice. If you don't know what a knob does LEAVE IT LIKE YOU FOUND IT! Unless you are willing to play with it during sound check and see what difference it makes, and return it to where you found it, unless you can improve it. In most of the small churches I have helped at, (many of them over 30 years of church tech work), the channel eq tends to be set like it is to reduce feedback from bad system design, or make low quality or headset mics sound decent. If someone who knows nothing about the system starts resetting them to Unity, you may all of a sudden get horrible feedback from a bunch of sources, or nasty plosives from the pastor during the sermon, or bucket based sound from the headset mic. I know even if I have to sneak into the sound booth when no one is looking when I am visiting a church, I am usually able to reduce that constant feedback whine from the podium mic, and make the pastor's mic sound 10 times better with a few knob tweaks, and hopefully no one ever touches the eq again, but this advice destroys all that tuning, and is like setting the Main system graphic EQ, or System Processor back to Unity settings, and destroy the system tune. Now, if the system is set up properly, with a system eq and good crossover settings etc, high pass filters on the mics, than you should be able to zero out the channel strip eq and be good, and on the bigger churches I ran, I set up the system processor so that most channels got zeroed for every service, because you had different mics or different users in each channel each service, but the headset mic channel EQ was left service to service, because it was set up for the specific voice and mic combination, and we had one pack dedicated to the Head Pastor, and the Countryman needs very specific EQ, so it didn't get touched. But all the handheld stuff was zeroed as a matter of practice for every event, and then tuned in as needed for the specific users. But I was able to train everyone on the team, and was there for most services anyway lol But in the scenarios you are talking about, I can almost guarantee you that the same mics are left plugged in the same channels week to week, and no one is going to be adjusting for individual voices, and the chances they have a system eq or processor are very slim, so the channel strip eq is the only thing dealing with feedback frequencies or mic tuning, and thus should NOT be touched unless you already know what you are doing, and can get it back as good as it was, or better.
Lol, I've worked in service and people will send back mixers as faulty claiming "only the left channel works". You get the desk out of the box and you see all the knobs, including the pan knobs, turned all the way to the left. And then you're like "yeeee, we're dealing with a professional here".
that green nobs can adjust sound frequenzy green on the top is for "high" high tones like z zimbals 3500 hertz to 20k hertz in the middle they called it "mid" it produce vocals sound, and the green on the bottom can adjust the volume of the bass they call it "low" its for adjusting low mid hi that can produce my voice in the microphone, instruments, and music from the mp3 or phone laptop, going to mixer and transfer to speakers.
Use your ears and not your eyes would be my first advice. Also make sure to research about low and high cut and eq settings as a starting point. Then when you think you know what you’re doing experiment from there.
The best thing we ever did was to get a digital console (XR18). I dial in the presets, and all others have to do is handle levels. Sounds good every week.
Without understanding chances are you won't get something to sound good to a trained ear. You should understand frequency, how those different frequencies will react in your environment, how to acoustically treat a space so that it will even be possible to get good sound, how sound phase works and ways to mitigate it, have an ear trained enough to eq well, and know where all the parts of a band should be volume-wise so that everything has a distinct pocket.
@@Koubles I agree that knowledge helps. But it can also trap you with the same ways, and forgetting experimentation. All we are chasing at the end of the day is emotional impact. And with that being completely subjective, there's no right or wrong way. I used to think for a long time that phase cancelation is bad. Then I learned that it can be used as a tone shaping tool, to find new dynamic textures that couldn't be possible otherwise.
@@pablodelgado744 mines not from echo idk theres some other issue we just can't find with the mics, my gains and gates are low enough so it doesnt catch feedback as easily tho, good luck on ur end, see if ur pastor wants to invest in some foam sound absorbtion pads haha
It depends on what you're doing. For example, if this is your only EQ and the room has a lot of echo, you might as well consider turning down the bass a little, etc. But if you have more than a single channel input or a different setup than this you may need to consider how you EQ each channel for it to make sense. But honestly, you don't need to touch the knobs at all most of the time.
The biggest problem I’ve experienced is not understanding that you need to turn mic gain up. It’s generally a half to a third of the level it should be.
@@ChurchCinematics I used to work in a music shop, it was generally always the church musicians who play for God (free) that were buying all the boutique gear! 🤣
was on the road played keys in bands for years, and unfortunately too many sound men, it seemed were more concerned about how the knobs and faders Looled, rather than the what it sounded like
I don’t add any be it as I don’t understand why I’m adding or taking away. I always get a professional to come set compression on our presnous board tho. It’s the only thing I like to add for our mix. To reduce the harshness if we get in to the -12 db range or a little higher
I'm afraid he can't help but my parents Cowboy church, they have a plexiglass shield around the drummer. It's so loud I need earplugs to go to church with them I have been to many electronic music gigs and festivals. Maybe half of the church is deaf.
"They just don't know what any of these knobs do" Say that again! How can you have a job and not have a clue how to do it? What's more, if you know you don't know what those knobs are why not spend a little time playing with them until you're familiar enough to adjust it for the better? 😒
There are some ppl that have a constant volume voice. Meaning you can play with the eq knobs. Other ppl are all over the place, in that case, leave the eq knobs alone.
Another common mistake I've seen in churches is that they'll mistake "bass", for "too loud" and turn the bottom end way down. Many, more traditional congregations will have a pianist as the lead, or maybe an acoustic guitar. That person will be highly regarded and the sound person will have them too high in the mix. Other instruments or singers will be mixed nearly out and the sound is awful. The perception is that it's too loud because of all the clangy midrange, but if they would warm it up with a bit more low frequency, it sounds less abrasive. Lots of smaller congregations with few people serving, and someone with little experience, or a bad ear, or just stubborn can make everyone's experience a bad one. Now if you go and approach the sound person be prepared for hurt feelings. Sometimes I think it would be easier with no PA system, or just the vocals coming through the PA. A decent musician should be able to balance their volume with the rest of the band.
Some church volunteers are not professionals like you. Their main goal is to serve God. Help them, educate them if you can. They're volunteers, meaning they don't get paid.
@simcax6087 what's important is the willingness and the availability to serve. The knowledge can be acquired through other volunteers like you by teaching those who need to learn. God bless.
@@simcax6087 I think the main issue is that a lot of small churches don't have enough volunteers. So you just get picked to do sound stuff and they give you a little background information. I remember the first month I did SE, it was like fire. But if you are open to criticism and are passionate to make the sound better. You will learn every possible way.

And you tell me… it would sound better if i just leave the amp how they are if i otherwisely just push and cut where my ears want to
Hi. Do you need an amplifier for the output speakers? I have a 15’’ passive speaker and I’m unsure if I should get an amplifier for it. I’m using it in a hotel conference room of about 50 guests
@@Kodjoedem anytime you have a passive speaker, you’ll need a power-amp. The mixer needs to plug into a power-amp, and then the power-amp into the speaker.
Learn if you don't know , if not Google it and study audio . Or your church will sound terrible. Volunteers are in need of training .it is not that hard. And their is rules.
Will changing the settings on this board remove feedback? I’m trying to help a very small church, now my church to figure out feedback issues that are very distracting…. It’s like a buzz
If there’s a buzz, you need to figure out which channel the buzz is coming from. Buzzing is different from feedback. There’s probably a cable that is deteriorating. Try finding out which channel is creating the buzz and then see if you can swap the cable. If that doesn’t help, Google “how to fix ground noise”
@@toni4jesus2if it's a buzz even when there is no sound going through the system, it's probably a ground loop or bad cable. Figure out what channels it's on, and then try unplugging whatever is plugged into the snake on that channel. If it doesn't go away, try unplugging the snake from the board. If it still doesn't go away, it may be something wrong in the board. If it's in the snake, maybe switch to a different snake channel. If it goes away when you unplug a mic cable from the snake, try swapping out the mic cable. If it's still there, it may be in the microphone or DI the mic cable is plugged into. If it's coming from a bass amp or keyboard or something, try flipping the ground lift switch on the DI, or try putting a DI in that has a ground lift switch. And it may be coming from an amp or something and you may not be able to make it go away without replacing it or doing something more major. If you have feedback, as in a squeal when someone is talking into a mic, then the eq can help with that, you can turn down the frequency of the feedback, but don't reset all the eq knobs like this video says, unless you know how to set eq, because there may be a reason why they are where they are, such as stopping bad feedback! Lol
Don’t reset what you don’t know!!!!! Just don’t touch. Someone has been fighting with an untreated room. No eq and you might as well turn the system off
Or….. it’s 2024. Buy a small digital soundboard. I have assisted quite a few churches with their analog gear. It never fails to surprise me how church leaders don’t want to spend any money on the Soundsystem. My response to them, if your people couldn’t hear the message, what was the point of attending?
Just leave it 😂

Usually novice sound guys blast the sound where it's distorted and sounds like crap and they're also good at blowing speakers.

that green nobs can adjust sound frequenzy
green on the top is for "high" high tones like z zimbals 3500 hertz to 20k hertz

But honestly, you don't need to touch the knobs at all most of the time.
Them folks dont like to research anything including sound systems. Oh well this is a temporary stop on the way somewhere else. Right....
The biggest problem I’ve experienced is not understanding that you need to turn mic gain up. It’s generally a half to a third of the level it should be.
Truth spoken right here.
The church people are right. Turn the EQ knobs and if the sound is better leave them there.
The same thing is happening in my church lol
Mixing the bass voices loudest.
Churches are very known for having all the gear and no idea
Either that or all the knowledge with none of the gear 😂
@@ChurchCinematics sometimes that's a more honourable station! 🤣
@@ChurchCinematics I used to work in a music shop, it was generally always the church musicians who play for God (free) that were buying all the boutique gear! 🤣
Is there a video where you explain this in further detail?
for a sound engineer the audio on this short is awful
i think hes running the mic through the pa to show how it sounds
especially for one who's being critical of other's sound techniques or lack of knowledge. Lol
@@arguy2021if you notice the qulity changes as he turns the knobs... The audio is an example of what not to do.😂😂😂
Ohh dang
@@Kyle_clubpeople are dumb 😩🤣
If the mid is not sweepable, it is not useful.
Please does anybody have a link on to how it explain how to set those frequency to give quality sound
The volunteers really don't know what any of the knobs do.
I could see where that could be a problem. Lol.
was on the road played keys in bands for years, and unfortunately too many sound men, it seemed were more concerned about how the knobs and faders Looled, rather than the what it sounded like
I don’t add any be it as I don’t understand why I’m adding or taking away. I always get a professional to come set compression on our presnous board tho. It’s the only thing I like to add for our mix. To reduce the harshness if we get in to the -12 db range or a little higher
Reset it to normal and just leave it the hell alone
I'm afraid he can't help but my parents Cowboy church, they have a plexiglass shield around the drummer. It's so loud I need earplugs to go to church with them I have been to many electronic music gigs and festivals. Maybe half of the church is deaf.
@@AF_1892 a good electronic drum set goes a long way and helps a lot in a small church setting
"They just don't know what any of these knobs do"
Say that again! How can you have a job and not have a clue how to do it? What's more, if you know you don't know what those knobs are why not spend a little time playing with them until you're familiar enough to adjust it for the better? 😒
If you DONT know how to touch it. Do NOT ever touch it. For the love of God.
I don't volunteer to do something i don't have any knowledge about.
@simcax6087 what's important is the willingness and the availability to serve. The knowledge can be acquired through other volunteers like you by teaching those who need to learn. God bless.
@@rrod6738 god save me from the willingful incompetents
@@simcax6087 I think the main issue is that a lot of small churches don't have enough volunteers. So you just get picked to do sound stuff and they give you a little background information. I remember the first month I did SE, it was like fire.
But if you are open to criticism and are passionate to make the sound better. You will learn every possible way.
Never boost any frequency for more than 3dB (1 tick) or cut any freq for more than 6dB (2 ticks)
Is Amplifier ko Laptop ya phone se connect karke recording kar sakte hai? Ya kisi aur type ka amplifier hota hai please recording kaise karein us par video bana dein
I do know what they are …. And that is exactly what i do…
Tone knob (low pass filter) on the guitar,
E on the gain stage 1
Tone knob in gain stage 2
Eq for the reverb, eq for the delay
And 5 knob eq on the amp 1 and 5 knob eq on amp two…
And all i do it turn them till they sound good… and depending of the venue they will end up in a different place….
And you tell me… it would sound better if i just leave the amp how they are if i otherwisely just push and cut where my ears want to
The VU meters on my Yamaha 12 channel mixer seem to have died.😢🤔🙁☹
So helpful. .........
The biggest mistake is adjusting volume with the gain knob. Oops, too loud gotta turn the gain down!
"What do all those green knobs do!"
JUST LEAVE IT!😡
The first mistake is going to church
biggest mistake is see is not cutting low end on the speaking mics. boom boom with every breathe
Same… high pass literally anything, and give it some compression
THIS!
Thank you❤
Can i get your help trying to fins a software that will help woth the sldes and also control sound we have a pa system
Thats good advice, better still ask a guitarist.
Where is the full video
The main problem is Pastors. They want volunteers instead of paying a pro to run the sound.
They just don’t know any better and can’t be bothered to care
@@ChurchCinematics you are right. So sad. I have a notion that it has to do with the pastoral salary $. But I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong.
Good wisdom
I get the feeling you don't know what they do
Learn if you don't know , if not Google it and study audio .
If you’re using stereo cables make sure they’re balanced too
@@ChurchCinematics I will do that! Thank you! And let you know how it went.
Thank you!
Lol
They all volume knobs😂 if u think about it
Right to jail 😤
Just leave it? O wow thats a mighty big ego pal
sound saver.
Don’t reset what you don’t know!!!!! Just don’t touch. Someone has been fighting with an untreated room. No eq and you might as well turn the system off
The magic is in two mid nobs.
Or….. it’s 2024. Buy a small digital soundboard. I have assisted quite a few churches with their analog gear. It never fails to surprise me how church leaders don’t want to spend any money on the Soundsystem. My response to them, if your people couldn’t hear the message, what was the point of attending?
Barely even metering
Can this mixer be used to control audio Livestream on iphones?
I used to turn those 3 knobs that way purposely cos I liked when it sounds like that and I knew it's function...
give me solutions, not problems
Sounds like u might need a drink😂
So you a church dj ?
