PINNED COMMENT Hi. Firstly, thanks to y'all for watching and commenting on the video, you are the best :) Secondly, a bunch of you found ways to avoid some of the grass touches in this video, so I will list all of them here: Big thanks to 2deoxyribose, who found how to avoid those three grass touches: - The cutscene grass touch at 5:29, which is avoidable by stacking up speed from the Kevin in the previous room - The cutscene grass touch at 7:06, which is avoidable by skipping the cutscene on the very first frame, which for some reason doesn't teleport the character - The cutscene grass touch at 7:40, which is avoidable by doing a precise extended hyperdash and skipping the cutscene high in the air Here's a video (from 2deoxyribose) showing those skips: th-cam.com/video/F4fX9QSnFqA/w-d-xo.html 2deoxyribose also found a way to avoid the grass touch in The Summit, using a fancy mechanic called "spinner stun". However, as it requires about 87 frame perfect inputs in a row, I will consider this strat TAS-only and will not consider this grass touch avoidable for a human. Here's a video example from 2deoxyribose's channel: th-cam.com/video/m3HbtKwhIZA/w-d-xo.html However, it is also possible to do this without a TAS in a different way. As 2deoxyribose and Shade stated, this spinner stun thing can be achieved in another way, by simply waiting for 118 hours, which completely breaks 2/3rds of the spinners. Cosmoe_2 tested this and confirmed it does allow to get past without touching the grass, which would be a human-friendly way to get past this part without touching the grass. (although you do have to wait with the game opened for 118 hours) Also, the grass touch in 4a (at 2:50) is avoidable in two different ways. As RichConnerGMN and Rarebeeph suggested (RichConnerGMN even sent the TAS input file to show how it's done), a double corner boost can skip this grass touch. And as meta04 also mentioned, 4b is possible grassless so we can also just grab the B-Side Cassette in 4a and play 4b instead to completely bypass this grass touch. Also, as Magic_Pickle123 and RichConnerGMN stated, the first cutscene with granny only gets triggered when you're looking towards her, so by jumping and turning away from her before landing, we can avoid this grass touch as well. And as Nico stated, there are two cutscene grass touches I missed in this video, which both happen in Chapter 2, where you spawn on top of a tiny piece of grass in an unskippable cutscene, and that happens twice in the chapter. To recap, this makes 4 cutscene grass touches and 2 character grass touch avoidable, but adds 2 more cutscene grass touches. Which makes the theoretical final grass touching count at 3 cutscene grass touch and 0 character grass touch, resulting in 3 total grass touches, which makes the entire game possible without any character grass touches! Thanks to all of you for your comments and your help, thanks to you we now know how to avoid almost every grass touch! :)
@@Geitungur Indeed! But since apparently it only stuns 2/3rds of the spinners, I would like to make sure this way of spinner stunning actually works for this specific scenario before saying it, but I don't feel like leaving the game opened for 3 days to try it

The first cutscene with granny only gets triggered if you’re facing her while standing on the ground so you can avoid it by turning away from her before landing from a jump
Hey really great video! I speedrun and TAS this game so I thought I could offer a bit of input. It's actually possible to skip all three of the grass touches in chapter 6 though they're pretty tricky and require some kinda obscure mechanics and knowledge. First is that cutscenes don't automatically reset your speed to zero meaning if you can enter a cutscene with enough speed it's possible to skip it and spawn somewhere the game doesn't expect you to spawn. In the room before the grassy corridor before the fight there's a Kevin block and it's possible to build up speed from that Kevin and very carefully keep speed into the cutscene so when you skip it Madeline will fly right into Badeline without touching the grass The second grass touch at 7:07 requires some really niche knowledge about Celeste. Not getting into all the technical details (partly because it's not super important and also because I don't fully understand it) but if you skip this cutscene on the first frame you have control after you enter the room it doesn't teleport you to the ground. Since transitioning screens gives you your dash back you have your dash again to dash to some not grassy ground The last grass touch can be skipped by entering the cutscene high enough and skipping it fast enough that you can just hold right to fall in the water and skip touching the grass and then dash up to the next room. Here's a short video of me doing all the skips described above: th-cam.com/video/F4fX9QSnFqA/w-d-xo.html 40 minutes later edit: It's also possible to skip the grass in the Summit with tech called spinner stunning which is extremely impossible for humans to do and very, very complicated (I can explain if desired) but if we're looking at what's technically possible to skip here's the grass skipped in the first room of Summit: th-cam.com/video/m3HbtKwhIZA/w-d-xo.html Great video and I'm looking forward to seeing what else you come up with!
Wow, thanks a lot for all of this info! I guess I should learn TAS so I can try some of those things more precisely instead of just bruteforcing manually for hours Very interesting, I didn't think about the kevin in the previous room, and I didn't know about the skipping cutscene on the first frame trick, great stuff! I was 99% sure the last grass touch in Chapter 6 was avoidable but after trying over and over for 2 hours and having to go all the way back to the previous checkpoint every single time I gave up trying to do it, good to know it's actually doable! Oh yeah, I knew about spinner stunning but since I don't TAS I didn't even try, good to know it works! If I understand correctly it's something like you have to pause every 3 frames to prevent the spinner hitbox from loading or something like that? Also, I don't remember where I heard about that but doesn't waiting about 3 days completely breaks the spinners too? (although waiting 3 days would be very inconvenient) I'm glad you liked the video, and I will make a pinned comment to inform people about the possible grass skips. hi, celeste "expert" here for the granny cutscene in prologue, you can repeatedly jump to the right and face left before landing. for some reason, this just... doesn't trigger the cutscene. for the grass touch in 4a, i was able to skip it with a double cornerboost. the tas input file will be in the replies to this comment. at 4:38, you conveniently skip the part where you have to touch the grass at the top. though you don't actually have to, because if you stay two pixels away from the wall, you can just climbjump up the wall without touching the grass at 5:31, just do a bhop off the kevin like in speedruns

Good to know it's possible to skip the grass touch in 4a with cornerboosts, some other comment gave the idea of unlocking and doing 4b instead but if the cornerboost thing works too that's even better, I guess I should learn how to use TAS at some point instead of bruteforcing manually for hours At 4:38, I didn't touch the grass at the top, I had stamina left so I just grabbed the wall at the very top and jumped forward Ohhh I didn't know about this kevin bhop thing, thanks for the info!
I love this video. I'd love to see you do more on anything that interests you, you've got a really fun style! Also, I only realized just now that there's so much grass in Chapter 4 because it all serves as a cue for the direction and strength of the wind blowing. I'm glad you liked the editing, I learned a lot while making this video so that's probably why the second half is better!
I did try my best to do a corner boost, but I couldn't get past without touching the grass. Maybe the wind current prevents that from working, or maybe it could just be me not being good enough at cornerboosts to do it properly (which is probably the case) However, as meta04 stated in a comment, 4b is possible grassless, and we can grab the 4b cassette before reaching that wind current part. And since clearing the B-Side without clearing the A-Side allows to move on to the next level, that could be used to avoid the first grass touch!

The grass in prologue could have a different excuse for not counting, being that they could very well be far away from the plane Madeline is on. We don't know, though.
I'd personally like to attempt this myself since there could probably be a few places that cutscene grass touches could be avoided, but tbh it may (or may not I'm not sure) take some black magic acquired after hundreds of hours of playing Celeste. I'll look into it sometime
I also think it may be possible to avoid some of those. As Magic_Pickle123 stated in the comments, the granny dialogue one in the prologue is avoidable by never looking towards granny I don't remember if the one at 5:28 teleports Madeline when we skip it, but if it doesn't maybe it's possible to grab on the edge of the block on the right I really don't think the one at 7:07 is avoidable, since skipping the cutscene does teleport Madeline on the grass And finally, I definitely think the one at 7:40 is skippable, since it doesn't teleport Madeline after skipping the cutscene. I did try for two hours but couldn't quite reach that water without touching the grass, but that's probably a skill issue on my part. If you find that any of those are skippable, let me know! I will put a pinned comment with all the skippable grass touches.
Hi, quick update on the grass touches. Thanks to the help of a bunch of people in the comments, a way to avoid all the cutscene grass touch (except for the very first one where we spawn at the start of the prologue) has been found! If you want to know more about it, you can check the pinned comment.
2:58 if you climbhop cancel (climbjump during the hop animation that happens at the top of a corner) you cancel wind effect and its possible to make it
I love these videos, you have an amazing sense of humor and i often find myself laughing at your jokes despitie having heard them so many times already
Yes, I didn't know about that when I made the video! A bunch of people mentioned this in the comments. I made a pinned comment listing every avoidable grass touch
Granny going from a nice old lady to an evil jester. She is just waiting here, waiting to laugh at you for failling to do your grass-less run At least badeline isn't trying to make you fail
Little fun fact, that block is called a Kevin because it’s named after the guy who made the sound effects, mostly because of the fact that the sounds a Kevin makes are just him going “urrrrrurururur” into the mic lol
You can avoid grass in some cutscenes by jumping before triggering it and then skipping. Skipping the cutscenes only changes the x-coordinate of Madeline, and y remains the same. This way you can jump or dash over the grass without touching it.
I love how this video tries so hard to make it seem like this is a hard challenge when it just really isn't lol. Great video editing and funny challenge though.
I just tried, and indeed you are correct! I didn't even try when making the video because I thought the 4b cassette was after that grass part, but it is before so we can indeed grab the cassette and avoid that grass touch! Thanks for your comment!
It's easy to miss but in chapter 2, you actually appear on top of grass. That's another cutscene grass touch. Edit: You also touch it again after waking up. It's not possible to skip by playing 2B since it also has grass at the start. Very inconvenient little piece of grass right there.
(he) I do know we can crouch to avoid the wind, but I discovered it during the making of video so maybe there's some of the footage where I don't do it

Thanks! As @Snas Does Music Things said, since I had stamina left I just grabbed the wall and jumped towards to right at the end, which was enough to jump over the grass.

Hi.
Firstly, thanks to y'all for watching and commenting on the video, you are the best :)
Secondly, a bunch of you found ways to avoid some of the grass touches in this video, so I will list all of them here:
Big thanks to 2deoxyribose, who found how to avoid those three grass touches:
- The cutscene grass touch at 5:29, which is avoidable by stacking up speed from the Kevin in the previous room
- The cutscene grass touch at 7:06, which is avoidable by skipping the cutscene on the very first frame, which for some reason doesn't teleport the character
- The cutscene grass touch at 7:40, which is avoidable by doing a precise extended hyperdash and skipping the cutscene high in the air
Here's a video (from 2deoxyribose) showing those skips: th-cam.com/video/F4fX9QSnFqA/w-d-xo.html

This Needs to become a speedrunning category
8:21 YOOOOOO DOOR SKIP YOU JUST SAVED 11 YEARS WITH THAT
LET'S GOOOO
now someone has to make an edit of reflections where all the grass has spikes on it
I love how the inspiration for the video is basically just a full circle moment lmao
jijachad only using demo dash button as the main dash button
Its called a kevin since Kevin made the sounds for it
You could’ve avoided the grass after talking to granny in the prologue. There’s a thing called a granny skip.
Yes, I didn't know about that when I made the video! A bunch of people mentioned this in the comments. I made a pinned comment listing every avoidable grass touch
This video was really funny ! You've got a sub man
The green blocks in reflection are called grass blocks so I feel it’s cheating to allow touching them
Granny going from a nice old lady to an evil jester. She is just waiting here, waiting to laugh at you for failling to do your grass-less run
At least badeline isn't trying to make you fail
Step 1. Remove grass from textures
Step 2. profit
(i'll turn this into an actual pack if you want)
the forbidden strategy
I love how the touch grass touch no grass in games turned into a meme^^
I'd like to see this as a speedrunning category it would be... Interesting
Amazing Video also: 7:10 text sums up his feelings XD
Thanks!
Yup, 7:10 is exactly how I felt at that moment xD
@@Rhododo Are you not touching grass to preserve it or because you are allergic?
@@Ri5olu Let's pretend it's to preserve it
The absolute defeat in your voice at 8:02 was gold
The comedy is absolutely spot on.
I like how it's implied Granny laugh because she's like "I made you touch grass"
I have watched this video like 3 times at this point I keep coming back it's a good video I like it
They’re called Kevins because they’re named after the sound designer for the game who did the voice for them ^_^
They're called Kevins because the grumbling sound was recorded by Kevin Regamey
Little fun fact, that block is called a Kevin because it’s named after the guy who made the sound effects, mostly because of the fact that the sounds a Kevin makes are just him going “urrrrrurururur” into the mic lol
oh my god I tried this challenge just a few weeks ago, im very glad somebody else thought of it!!
you are way better at this than i am tho lol
fantastic video! youre really underrated, definitely subscribed!! ❤
Thanks! :)
3:30 I don't think I've ever heard anyone say this in celeste before 😅
3:48 "Nerd, wait up" hmm.... 🤓
that one berry touch will haunt you for the rest of your life
Omg Celeste this is so nostalgic thank you (I might play this and dead cells on my TH-cam page as well soon)
The ultimate gamers dream
(Btw that hello in the intro sounded so polite)
I like the song you played at the end of the video :D
Thanks! :D
i love how granny is basicslly the grass god now
4B might be possible grassless...
I just tried, and indeed you are correct! I didn't even try when making the video because I thought the 4b cassette was after that grass part, but it is before so we can indeed grab the cassette and avoid that grass touch! Thanks for your comment!
I discovered you with this video. Your editing is handsome and really funny. Love your work !🔥
It's easy to miss but in chapter 2, you actually appear on top of grass. That's another cutscene grass touch.
Edit: You also touch it again after waking up. It's not possible to skip by playing 2B since it also has grass at the start.
Very inconvenient little piece of grass right there.
Oh. I totally missed that one indeed.
Finally, Madeline is trans girl representation that I can relate to
For the gravity ?
Bro you DESERVE A SUB
This challenge is a good depiction of how depression feels like
great and entertaining video keep it up!
A CHALLENGE VID??? ON MY FAVORITE GAME?? YESSS
Great video! Well-edited :)
Thanks! :)
I feel like ninja carrot is gonna be deft, but samurai potato would have very precise hits, so that's 50/50
really entertaining video, much good, did enjoy
"The grass came to touch you instead" YEA I WISH
he (they? first time) do(nt)esn't know you can crouch to avoid the wind
(he) I do know we can crouch to avoid the wind, but I discovered it during the making of video so maybe there's some of the footage where I don't do it
An almost 9 minute video just to say "No".
Celeste is one of those games that takes over you, you become the game, you become the dash, you become the geometry, you are Celeste. Celeste is you.
Someone should
Always be with you, for this game can be
Viciously
Enduring with every passing
Moment, you clutch to
Every ounce of your santity
The second I clicked into this vid I got scared, this is going to be a hard challenge
celeste: gamer mode
8:00 not to nitpick but *hyperdash
Oh yep that's true my bad, it is indeed an extended hyperdash and not a wavedash!
Really entertaining video!
4:34 I'm curious, how did you avoid the grass at the top here?
I wondered that too but I'm pretty sure as long as you still have stamina you can climb jump over it pretty easy
@@snasmusic Oh yeah good point. I forgot he still had stamina.
Thanks!
As @Snas Does Music Things said, since I had stamina left I just grabbed the wall and jumped towards to right at the end, which was enough to jump over the grass.
the edited badeline dialogue appeals to ME and ME ONLY
As someone with a grass allergy, this vid is so satisfying
5:54 Wait, is that a grass touch…?
nah that's definitely fancy looking dirt
sus
1:04
I can't believe this actually made me laugh
Ninja carrot would win, has both the sword and sharp tip
true gamer.
4:15 the person who mad the sound is named kevin
4:37 wouldnt you have to touch grass here to reach the feather though?
Nope, I saved stamina to grab the wall at the very top and jump towards the rock
@@Rhododo ohhh ok!
Berry touches: 1
you know the game (and fanbase) is good when it's difficult to NOT touch grass
this channel is way too underrated
Thanks :)
