A black belt ain't shat, it's only a trophy, a lot of people don't get that, I honestly think anyone can get a black belt, it's the actual person and how much practice they do that counts. As Bruce Lee once said "I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times." It's basically saying sure you learned all this stuff but what is the use of it if you are no good at it? It's the dedication you take into learning specific things that is truly impressive.
People who don't practice don't really understand what "black belt" means. The best analogy I ever heard was, "Achieving a black belt means you have learned the alphabet. Now you have to learn how to read and write words and sentences." It is not by any means an indication of some form of mastery.
Ben Lee it totally depends on the system. There's no governing body of all martial arts club world wide who lay down the standard of 'black belt'. Some clubs pretty much just give it out for regular attendance, in some clubs it is indeed like learning the alphabet and all the real learning comes after, and rarely some clubs make it so hard to get that it is genuinely a sign of mastery and people may fail that grading many times before success. But those clubs are defo in the minority.
Ben Lee.. It really depends on who gave you the black belt aswell.. Joe Rogan constantly says this when fighters have a black belt from an unknown bjj trainer(doesnt mean they arent worthy of teaching and giving blackbelts) Problem is, there is lots of people training people and lots of them arent worthy of giving a proper blackbelt. Thats why any gracie black belt (like the guy from Modern Family is a HUGE achievement, but lots of other martial art black belts they named are unrealistic in a streeet fight setting. Toughest guy on this list has to be Michael Jai White
You forgot Gal Gadot. Former military (Israel Defense Forces (IDF)) She learned Krav Maga as well as Kung Fu kickboxing, Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
It is titled "actors you DIDN'T KNOW had martial arts skills", so of course Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins etc... didn't get mentioned since the whole world knows they are real martial artists.
I fought Ed O’Neil in 1993 at the Gracie Acadamy in Torrance California, He was older (I was in my Prime at age 22) yet he beat me badly! We rolled 10 times and I lost every time and I was fairly skilled in BJJ, The funny thing is that I did not know who he was until after 2 hours. I can now say that Al Bundy kicked my ass!
Ed was a professional football player prior to acting, so taking up another sport is not surprising: but, it isn't anything I had heard mentioned before.
Besides being a helluva dancer, James Cagney was a black belt in judo back in the 1930s, and used judo techniques in some of his films. Basil Rathbone was a two-time British Army fencing champion. Cornel Wilde was selected for the 1936 USA Olympic Saber Team but quit to take an acting role. Tyrone power was one of the best fencers in Hollywood, learning from age seven. And yes, fighting with edged weapons is a martial art--ask any samurai, musketeer, or Viking. James Caan is an internationally-ranked Master of Karate. Other actors have genuine skills as opposed to many seen here. Some mentioned in the video, i.e. Chloe Moritz, are simply foo-foo; there is a big difference between combat training and stage fighting.
taylor Lautner? "he started training at six and got his black belt at 8". There is perfectly explained how NOT serious that is. Karate Black belt is never achieved in such a short span, simply because no master will allow it. Period. Of course, there is exhibition sh.t karate wannabe... you can be black belt in six months there, and get you butt kicked if you pretend to be a martial artist
American style Karate didn't mean a thing because there were so many phony school who just wanted to collect money. One would hand them the money and get a new belt every six months. No kids should deserve a black belt.
Yeah, it's kinda strange. When I start karate I was 10, and in two years I only got to green belt. And in the dojo/style I joined, it's imposible to get brown belt before 17, because the test require certain amount of strength that equal an adult...
I thought Charlize Theron did a great job in Atomic Blond bringing back the long (by today's standards) uncut versions of a real fight and doing it without doubles.
@@veedee4860 The story was a mess but the general gist was easy enough to follow that it didnt matter and the aesthetic, tone, music, fight, everything else was on point. Loved it.
I think the point was about actors that might surprise you to know are actual martial artists. Though who the hell didn't know about Snipes, White, or Statham. When the bulk of an actors career is made up martial arts action roles, its probably for a reason. That would be like putting Van Damme on this list. Donnie Yen is not a surprise, and Jackie Chan studied martial arts drama which is designed to look good on screen.
Yeah, and he looked really good doing it too, in "Wild, Wild West".. I loved that show as a kid. Bruce Lee was in "The Green Hornet" as Kato, the masked driver.

Forgot Rob Downey Jr. who's now well known for his study of Wing Chun Kung Fu. He's got to be a fairly high level black belt by now. Dolph Ludgren is a trained brawler in kickboxing an few others I think. An then there's a few others that have degrees as well like the "white canary" Lotz who does Kali too I believe. just some my favorites
Matt Damon BEN affleck JENNIFER GARNER and FOREST WHITAKER are also known to have extensive training! let's not forget CARRADINE his drunken pervert style was without peer LOL!!
Rodney Settle Generally not true. Many styles have adopted belt systems, although most Wing Chun schools do not, there are a few that do. I do understand what you're trying to say but they are out there.
Thing is, everyone know they have skills and could whoop serious ass, that's why they weren't listed. If I had choose who would win in this list I'd go with Snipes with Jai White a very close second. In your list I couldn't really choose between Li, Yen and Jaa, they're some real badasses and I have a lot of love for Jackie.
A black belt doesnt mean you are a master... a black belt means you have learned the fundamentals and are ready to be taught. So getting a black belt is like completing the Tutorial. You still have MUCH to learn after.
Paula Covian wrong, all belts are "KYU"(levels of water) while a black belt is a "DAN"(level of Earth) only got with training and experience.the fundamentals are not enough to give someone a DAN and any martial art is a lifetime journey in learning. There is no tutorial in martial arts unless you are fighting in vídeo games.
André D'Freitas it looks intersting, in my dojo where i practiced ninjutsu, there was a aikido class, and the idea i think of aikido is to use your opponents power and strenght againist him. Correct me if i am wrong

Sarah Michelle Geller has a black belt in Taekwondo, and she has practiced "kickboxing, street fighting, boxing, and gymnastics". From a young age, Lucy Liu was trained in the martial arts of kali-eskrima-silat, AKA the weapons-based technique of fighting involving sticks, knives, and other types of blades. Jason Momoa does Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. And more and more.
Hugh Jackman and Cloe were ranked way to high. I'm a big fan of both of them but on a list about actors with legit martial arts skills Micheal Jai White has to be number 1 or 2 and I'm not a fan of him as a actor, but the man has like 8 black belts.
Ever heared about Dolph Lundgren, he should be rank 1 on this list. I would at least not doubt he is the best fighter, his qualification as an actor could be questioned though.
why not , in USA You can get black belt if You pay well :D in real traditional martial arts associations like Karate (in central Europe) u must train minimum 6 years if you are talented (2 degrees a year) to get 1st Dan in hollywood Taylor Lautner got black belt in 2 years LOL
As so many viewers seem to have missed it, this list is SUPPOSED TO BE of stars who were known as actors FIRST, before becoming known as martial artists. So Michael Jai White shouldn't be on it, as his acting career started long after his martial arts.
I have to agree with you on that one because Jessica Alba had to do extensive martial arts training for when she played Max aka X5-452 and I very much doubt they used to stunt double for her fight scenes in spy kids four: all the time in the world.
Quite a few other actors who have martial arts black belts, like Dolph Lundgren, Sarah Michelle Gellar, a lesser known actor/martial artist such as Scott Adkins, Marc Dacasco, and some others.

If you start training at the age of 6 and some people actually qualify you as black belt at age 8 then it's not a serious martial arts group. By far
Krisztián Kovács A joke is what it is.
Krisztián Kovács definitely a joke. It has taken some of the people in my kung fu class 7-8 years to get their black belt.
Lord that’s about a right time frame in my style as well. You gotta earn in kempo
@as I see it
What kind of kempo do you do? :) I am a white belt in shorinji kempo.
LORD CHARLES If you train everyday with very few breaks, I think 5-6 is also appropriate
Michael Jai White is a beast
Yeah I wanna see that movie they showed him in the action looks badass.
It's Blood and Bone from 2009
+Gonk a good movie
There's also Kathryn Winnick from"Vickings", was also in that clip with Ashton Clutcher
Joe Rogan constantly says this when fighters have a black belt from an unknown bjj trainer(doesnt mean they arent worthy of teaching and giving blackbelts)
Problem is, there is lots of people training people and lots of them arent worthy of giving a proper blackbelt. Thats why any gracie black belt (like the guy from Modern Family is a HUGE achievement, but lots of other martial art black belts they named are unrealistic in a streeet fight setting. Toughest guy on this list has to be Michael Jai White
Only Chuck Norris,Jean Claude and Steven Seagal have the right to say master
Yes the belt itself is a trophy but it sounds more to me like you are a jealous bitch that you couldn't get one.
SCOTT ADKINS never gets enough credit.
Blammo D Adkins is the best and most complete martial artist I have ever seen
I so badly wanted Adkins to get the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. I think he'd be great.
Must add that Ed O'Neil received his belt from Rorion Gracie, the Co founder of UFC and the brother of Royce Gracie
You forgot Gal Gadot. Former military (Israel Defense Forces (IDF)) She learned Krav Maga as well as Kung Fu kickboxing, Capoeira and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Uma Thurman definitely has skills
It is titled "actors you DIDN'T KNOW had martial arts skills", so of course Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins etc... didn't get mentioned since the whole world knows they are real martial artists.
It says that in the description, but not in the title.
Most of the world knew about Wesley Snipes. People have talked about his skills since well before he made Blade.
@@paulcollins8922 statham, michael JW and hugh jackman was also really obvious imo :'D
And we didnt know about Jason statham, Wesley snipes and Michael J White
J white and statham was obv
You missed Milla Jovovich
They missed RDJ, too. He's been training in Wing Chun for years.
So #1 is Chloe Grace-Moretz who’s only martial arts training was a 3month period to prepare for a movie... ok
That surprised me when I watched her body movements in kick ass is like she has been training for years.
That's because it's the most surprising for one so young.
No Lucy Lu?
She was 11
before martial arts she studied gymnastics so her flexibility is already there
3:40 Ed O'Neil is the one that surprised me the most.
To mr its John Cusack..he doesn't look like someone who could fight😁
I fought Ed O’Neil in 1993 at the Gracie Acadamy in Torrance California, He was older (I was in my Prime at age 22) yet he beat me badly! We rolled 10 times and I lost every time and I was fairly skilled in BJJ, The funny thing is that I did not know who he was until after 2 hours. I can now say that Al Bundy kicked my ass!
@@warriorpoet8119 "Let's rock..."
Ed was a professional football player prior to acting, so taking up another sport is not surprising: but, it isn't anything I had heard mentioned before.
Statham, Jackman, and Grace-Moretz have great voices and would do amazingly in voiceover work if they ever wanted to. Especially in video games.
Statham did voice acting in Call of Duty Advanced Warfare
3 months of practice, Serious Martial Arts Skills right there.
yeah i'm not buying that 3 months would get you very far.. maybe 3 months of 12 hours a day.. ok now your past white belt but not black belt..
taylor Lautner?
And in the dojo/style I joined, it's imposible to get brown belt before 17, because the test require certain amount of strength that equal an adult...
have you seen his videos of when he was 12?
The minute I heard that, I thought "Strip mall McDojo".
Diego Bassist He wasnt a black belt at 8... in 2000 he was a green belt he would of been between 8-10.
I thought Charlize Theron did a great job in Atomic Blond bringing back the long (by today's standards) uncut versions of a real fight and doing it without doubles.
Kit Levey that was a very underrated movie.
Peppermint was dope too. Always had a soft spot for Jennifer Gardner.
@@veedee4860 The story was a mess but the general gist was easy enough to follow that it didnt matter and the aesthetic, tone, music, fight, everything else was on point.
Loved it.
That was excellent thank you for posting that!
You miss one famous actor that actually knew kungfu and unknown by many people : Robert Downey Jr
he does wing chun to be exact i think, not kung fu
@xXsilverpearlXx i think what this person means with "unknown" is a fact that rdj can do martial art
Kungfu is useless in fights anyway.
@@beardedentity Wanna try to fight a kungfu master?
🧢
Don’t forget chuck Norris and Jackie Chan!
Lets make it 12
Way too obvious, I don't see any need to put them on the list.
Martial Arts study Chuck Norris
this list is people you wouldn't expect to know martial arts or who just trained for a movie role.
Actors we didn't know had martial arts skills? Really? People didn't know Statham, Snipes, Jae White, etc really had martial arts skills?
to be honest the only surprise for me was John Cusack
Yeah that and Ed O'neil
Alex Betten he's a student of benny the jet urquidez
Benny the Jet teaching John Cusack is pretty damn impressive.
you should see gross pointe blank, the guy he has the hallway fight scene with is his teacher
so you didn't say anything about Bruce Lee Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen
hk actor already have blood in this..
Florian Kern those are pretty obvious
Jackie Chan knows martial arts?????????
yes Jackie Chan nows Drunk kunfu
I think the point was about actors that might surprise you to know are actual martial artists. Though who the hell didn't know about Snipes, White, or Statham. When the bulk of an actors career is made up martial arts action roles, its probably for a reason. That would be like putting Van Damme on this list. Donnie Yen is not a surprise, and Jackie Chan studied martial arts drama which is designed to look good on screen.
Clearly Bruce Lee must be on every spot of this video.
No - just read the title again.
@@FinneHons yeah but we know about most of the others too!!!!
way back in the 1970's Robert Conrad, the OG James West, studied boxing and martial arts way before it was popular
Yeah, and he looked really good doing it too, in "Wild, Wild West".. I loved that show as a kid. Bruce Lee was in "The Green Hornet" as Kato, the masked driver.
Chloe trains for three months and that somehow qualifys her to be a martial artist?
6 months i believe in her interviews
DJBianca Frost still not enough
CrimsonKnight no but I bet she could kick most girls in her weight class ass in real life though.
I'm glad you added "girls in her weight class," since we're all supposed to accept an 85 pound girl can beat up 250 men in 2017. Reality is offensive.
But she was training gymnastics for years what gave her great start in fighting sports.
I know one person with great martial arts and that is...
Batman.
AND JOOOOOHHNNN CENNNNAAA!!! **THEME SONG PLAYS**
he did say it, he said it was
Lego Ghost Rider
I'm not Batman. :(
Lego Ghost Rider
Don't say "actors you didn't know had serious martial arts skills" and put Wesley Snipes on the list. Jesus, who doesn't know that dude is a legit martial artist
Jim Szalewski or Jason statham or Michael jai white
@@lr4165 Wesley Snipes entrusted his tax preparation, but was penalized for that result from wrong processing of his taxes. Mr. Snipes tried to legally avoid paying taxes as did Mr. D. Trump, aka the POTUS.
Mine was was Michael j White. Like seriously of course the man has skill lol.
Steven pizza eating Seagal doesn't know.
Robert downew Jr wing Chun. He often showed his skills in sherlock Holmes (its not barristan)
so you didn't say anything about Bruce Lee Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen
6. Michael Jai White, holds 7 different black belts and has trained for 30 years.
1. Some girl who got training for one movie.
This sounds very fair.
Casual Cynic he's the real deal for sure, he is undefeated as far as I know, and the masters actually have respect for him from what I've heard
the point of the video is to show us actors we didn't know they can do their things in real life , and you cant easily predict that for this girl
I was surprised Michael Jai White was even on the list since i thought it was common knowledge of his martial arts training.
The list is silly. Why include the obvious ones? Bad title.
Maybe this will motivate a young beginner to really train and get a belt or 2.
For all the " what about Scott Adkins Jackie Chan Chuck Norris etc" . It clearly says actors that you didn't know had martial arts skills.
Everyone knows Jackie chan and chuck Norris and those that have heard of Scott Adkins knows he also has abilities. So whats your point?
They say Jason Statham, but it's obvious that Jason has Kong-fu skills
That's why they're not on the list.
yall are some serious blockheads....you are saying exactly what the original commentor was saying 😂😂 fucking dumbasses lolol
Scott Adkins is legit.
3 months with a stunt crew doesn't make you "seriously skilled" in martial arts. You need YEARS and dedication.
Damn right...
Not anymore dummy, I trained for many years and was dedicated, then I met a very serious and good person, that was an awesome Martial artist and fighter, I trained with him for 6 months and learned and improved more than in many years of my previous training, you learn a lot of useless horsesht in all those years of dedicated training.
@@Rspenesmit So you argue with my 3 month comment by saying you trained for many years then spent 6 months with someone and learned more..
Did you learn about bad analogies?
Forgot Rob Downey Jr. who's now well known for his study of Wing Chun Kung Fu. He's got to be a fairly high level black belt by now. Dolph Ludgren is a trained brawler in kickboxing an few others I think. An then there's a few others that have degrees as well like the "white canary" Lotz who does Kali too I believe. just some my favorites
Matt Damon BEN affleck JENNIFER GARNER and FOREST WHITAKER are also known to have extensive training! let's not forget CARRADINE his drunken pervert style was without peer LOL!!
Anyone who saw Ghost Dog knew about Whitaker.
Oh, you beat me to it.
Robert Agu There is no such thing as a black belt in Wing Chun. Black belts are rankings from non Chinese martial arts countries
Rodney Settle Generally not true. Many styles have adopted belt systems, although most Wing Chun schools do not, there are a few that do. I do understand what you're trying to say but they are out there.
How could you NOT KNOW John Statham has martial arts skills? That's all he DOES in is movies!
I think you mistakenly wrote John instead of Jason for Statham?
John Cusack can been seen fighting with Benny 'the jet' Urquidez in "Grosse Pointe Blank"
I love the movie. Why isn't Benny on the list???
Where’s jet li, Jackie Chan, Donnie yen and tony jaa?? The original legends been in the game for so long
Tony Jaa is amazing!
Thing is, everyone know they have skills and could whoop serious ass, that's why they weren't listed. If I had choose who would win in this list I'd go with Snipes with Jai White a very close second. In your list I couldn't really choose between Li, Yen and Jaa, they're some real badasses and I have a lot of love for Jackie.
they're not listed, cause they don't count as 'actors you didn't know have serious MA skills' - just read the title :-D
Because this was about people you did not know had real skills
Steven Segal has a deep fried black belt.
love deep fried black belt with a side of pickles. mmmm. sooo good
Steven Seagal use that skill on Kelly LeBrock is ex-wife.... what a badass. SMFH
😂😂😂
Deep fried mmm sounds deep and hard lol
He is good at Aikido have seen him on youtube from years back in tournaments fighting
WHERE THE HELL IS JACKIE CHAN, BRUCE LEE, JET LEE AND CHUCK NORRIS
its about popular actors.not legends
Andrea Petro they are still actors, who deserve to be on the list
Noah Agboinfi it says that you DIDNT know had martial arts skills
Van damme and seagel too
algiers
but.. everybody knows Jason Stahtam is a marcial artist.
John Cusack in "Grosse Point Blank" can be seen fighting his real life trainer in the school.
Keanu Reeves is a serious badass... his the TH-cam videos of him training for John Wick are fantastic...
Watching those videos and videos of how he is to fans. Really impressed me and made me look at him differently. So much respect for him!
NOBODY in this planet can start training with 6 years old and get a black belt with 8!!!that's bullshit!!!
There is no tutorial in martial arts unless you are fighting in vídeo games.
i have got 9th Kyu in Ninjutsu, i quit since i moved in germany :/
Asakura834 I practice aikido
André D'Freitas
it looks intersting, in my dojo where i practiced ninjutsu, there was a aikido class, and the idea i think of aikido is to use your opponents power and strenght againist him. Correct me if i am wrong
Michael Jae White would have put a helleva spin on Luke Cage, cast him as the big screen Luke Cage on the next two Avengers movies.
patrick smith Too late now.
I wish him and Steven Seagal would have fought in that one one movie I cannot remember now because I am drunk.
yes he would have been a great Luke Cage
Just because some actor learned a few moves for a movie scene does not mean they know martial arts, Screen Rant.
true however i do believe that keenu reeves is and has become an amazingly trained martail arts and does is own fight scenes ....in john wick/john wick2
I'm a big fan of both of them but on a list about actors with legit martial arts skills Micheal Jai White has to be number 1 or 2 and I'm not a fan of him as a actor, but the man has like 8 black belts.
three of them should be number one....Jae White, Statham and Snipes
Kilo Whiskey White should absolutely be number 1
Ever heared about Dolph Lundgren, he should be rank 1 on this list. I would at least not doubt he is the best fighter, his qualification as an actor could be questioned though.
Michael definitely takes number one on this list, he's the MOST badass and could probably beat the shit out of just about anyone on this list.
They weren't ranked, they just named those ten in random...
Keanu Reeves as John Wick is totally bad ass.
Caty Lotz? Black belts in 4 different disciplines!
shes trained in several different disciplines...TKD, Wushu and Muay Thai she does NOT have a black belt.
why not , in USA You can get black belt if You pay well :D
in real traditional martial arts associations like Karate (in central Europe) u must train minimum 6 years if you are talented (2 degrees a year) to get 1st Dan
in hollywood Taylor Lautner got black belt in 2 years LOL
Best Kim Penn and Amy Johnston!
The actors that actually got black belts that's dope AF! I love the blade movies never knew he had multiple black belts in different fighting styles.
bruh...so no one acknowlegdes Sharkboy and Lavagirl
Tyrese M ikr skarkboy and lava girl was the shit.

A lot of comments about FAMOUS people that we already know have skill. The title is people who we DIDN'T know.
I show this as the title "10 Popular Actors With Serious Martial Arts Skills In Real Life!"
Forest Whitaker has skills to I was surprised to hear about Ed O'Neill a couple years ago
"John Cusack" - fails to show clip of him fighting his mentor Benny in Grosse Pointe Blank...FFS

As so many viewers seem to have missed it, this list is SUPPOSED TO BE of stars who were known as actors FIRST, before becoming known as martial artists. So Michael Jai White shouldn't be on it, as his acting career started long after his martial arts.
Keanu Reeves is the face of perfection
He knew kick boxing before matrix so what is this guy talking about he didn't know anything before matrix
All Bundy knows martial arts ???? He should have roundhoused peggy when she whined at him.
Richard Upton I was really surprised to see Al Bundy on that list.

Haha but we know he loved her deep down and wouldn't do that. Despite everything they said to each other.
Richard Upton bro, thats why he always kick every Kelly's boyfriend
Yep black belt in BJJ/GJJ and trained with the Gracies for 23 years.
Robert Downey Jr Wing Chun?
True he forgot
You missed Jessica Alba, and Michelle Rodriguez.
I have to agree with you on that one because Jessica Alba had to do extensive martial arts training for when she played Max aka X5-452 and I very much doubt they used to stunt double for her fight scenes in spy kids four: all the time in the world.
What movie was Max X5-452 titled?
That was not a movie at all it was a TV show called dark angel.
Thanks
Who are they?
“ LETS ROCK “ AL BUNDY 😆
