  • Rigveda, Atharvaveda, Yajurveda and Samaveda: the four Vedas are a foundational heritage of the Indian civilisation, and they are at the origin of many Indian philosophies that evolved in the centuries to come.
    In the lecture series, Vedas to Vedangas, Dr. Sucheta Paranjpe provided an overview of the Vedic literature through an elaborate exposition of the four Vedas and Vedangas such as Brahmanakas, Aranyakas and Upanishads.
    In this fourth and the last lecture, from Adi Shankaracharya to Kalidasa, through various references, Dr. Paranjpe gives us a comprehensive account of the Upanishads and the glimpses of society that can be seen.
    This lecture series was organised in October 2019 under the academic programme sponsored by the Infosys Foundation. Supported by the Infosys Foundation, the Academic Programme of the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute is home to multidisciplinary research on Indian philosophy, literature, languages and history.

    Thoroughly enjoyed this series, an absolute treasure trove! Thank you so much BORI and Dr. Sucheta Paranjpe.
    My only real grouse is, as I have mentioned in the previous video too, is that day 3 is missing. This video though titled day 4 is clearly day 5 as can be made out at the end, and the video titled day 3 is actually day 4 as is stated at the end of that video as well. I wish BORI looks into this so we can have the missing content as well and are not deprived of Dr. Paranjpe's gems of knowledge and wisdom.

    This is an absolute treasure. Very informative and showing country’s rich culture.
    One question to all gurus here. I learned that Upanishads were written hundreds years after vedas. Is there difference in their Sanskrit language as languages do change over hundred years (Marathi at the times of Dnyaneshwar was quite different from today’s Marathi so asking this question.

    Correction at 1:00:05 In Indian philosophy, aastik and nastik do not mean believing in God vs not believing in God and they are not divided into 3 aastik and 3 naastik. Indeed all 6 philosophies namely Nyaya, Visheshika, Sankhya, Yoga, Mimansa and Vedanta are aastik Darshan because they believe in authenticity of Vedas. The nastiks ones like Buddhism, Jainism, Charcaka and Ajivika do not believe in Vedas being the ultimate truth and are hence called Nastik Darshan.

      @vashishth552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree.Buddhism, Charvaka, Ajivika are believe only in Arth and kam.

      @@vashishth552 That is not what I said. I was just stating the categorization of Aastik and Naastik Darshan (philosophy) in the Indian philosophy. Indeed Buddhism has a very rich philosophy about Dukh and Nirvana despite not believing in Aatma or Brahm and also not believing in authority of Vedas.

    00:58 - Upanishads dont mention Ishwara - it's a later addition!!! -- sorry to correct - So are you saying there are stories of Prajapati, Prana, Indra, Virochana, Yama, etc, etc, in upanishads but since Ishwara is not mentioned, this is a later addition???? - Like it's said in Rig Veda, of what use is the whole vedas to the one who doesnt know that all the names of vedas denote that One Brahman - Studied vedas, et al, but if this is the knowledge you are trying to spread, I am sorry to say I am wasting my time with BORI
