I've had three of these (92 and two 93) since I was a kid as I got them after my grandfather died in 1956. He was from near Chicago, and I remember him telling me about going to this fair when he was a kid (b.1884). Since they've spent virtually their entire lives in either his drawer or mine, they're in pretty good condition.
Thanks for the info on this coin - what I learned from this video is that it is 90% Silver! And many were in circ until the 50's! I am guessing it was minted in Philadelphia since no mint mark on the coin! Thanks for posting!
Ever read Devil in the White City? Erik Larson is one of my favorite authors. I can't see this coin without being reminded of HH Holmes and the permanent shadow he cast over that World's Fair.
I've always felt the Columbian Half did not get the respect it deserves only because it was produced in such large numbers. It is a beautiful design, and it kicked off one of the most interesting coin series in US Mint history.
You would think they would be worth more because of the low mintage and melted ones and they still aren't going for much. I've had one for 5 years now I got it for 20 bucks then. Cool video content👍
Always have liked this coin, but never owned one as of yet. I've tried to find a nice high grade circulated example, but it seems many of these coins suffer from some sort of problem, polished, scratched, cleaned, or have ugly toning. The least favorite part of the coin for me is the bust of Columbus too, but the great reverse design makes up for it.
This is where collecting commerative halfs got me started.
Awesome!!
The early commemorative half dollars are my favorites. So under the radar in the coin world. They can be very expensive, and a set brings huge money.
Smashed the like button! Awesome information!!
Much appreciated!

Thanks John!
Always loved this coin, glad it was featured!! Thanks!!
Me too! Thanks Eddie
Nice video. Did not know about the repunched date variety. Think these are undervalued.
I have the 1892 and the 1893. Great story behind these coins. I now seek a Isabella quarter that has not been cleaned. Thanks for another great video
One of my favorite coins ... my Grandfather gave me this coin when I was a kid. For me, its a special coin.

Really cool! No prob
I got me a 1893 one for 12 dollars, not in the best condition but I love it.
