      Ya, perlite has worked out extremely well instead of soil. I do fertilize it as well.

    Beautiful Alocasia! I was about to give up on all alocasia except my Dragon Scale. That one sits in my kitchen, a small plant with 5 nice leaves, Upstairs I have 4 more, a Pink Dragon, 2 Maharani's and a Black Velvet. All of them were on their way out. The Pink Dragon I swear had died. I was too lazy to take it downstairs and get rid of it, and a couple weeks ago decided to put out a beautiful new leaf. The same with the black velvet. It grew a very small (one inch or so) leaf about a month ago, this past week it put out an amazing 4 inch leaf! Just perfect! And one of the Maharani the same story. The other maharni lost its newest leaf so unless it grows another shoot, it will probably be a one leaf plant forever. It's just odd that they all chose so late in the season to start to grow. But I am happy cause they are all growing in my conditions and do not need to acclimate.

    I saw a spoon! 🤣🤣 I guess there are rare times that the good ole trusty pencil needs a helping hand! That alocasia is phenomenal! I did watch the video on how you rehabbed it but I will be watching it again- I bought one online from Walmart at the end of winter, and it has been in a slow but steady decline. One new leaf and it is the only one that appears healthy. My other one from Costa Farms is just a happy camper! Your Jewel Orchids are breath taking! I have a macodes petola that I bought as a cutting. I love it. Slow to grow for me (it's not in a terrarium) , but it keeps giving me a new leaf every few months.

    Response from my master fish man..
    Though the algae is perfectly safe and healthy for the plant to leave it , I do have an algacide that's plant safe. But I'd just set that container inside a solid one that deprives the algae from the light 🌞
    (and at least your won't see the algae lol 💚)

    I’d like to see more info on how you put that plant in just perlite. You must have to feed it too since no soil. What, how much and how often do you feed it and do you keep it super wet or just damp like when propagating?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey Karen. I basically treat it no different then if it was in soil. It actually dries out fairly quick and when it does I just rinse it under the filtered tap water. It doesn't matter what type of medium you use, you definitely need to use fertilizer. Like every few watering (I haven't done it in a while) I will water with diluted fertilizer. That's what plants do in soil....extract the nutrients and moisture. The same can be done for leca and pon. Hope this helps!

    Great video! I’ve been thinking about switching my alocasia to perlite, as they did so well in it, and don’t seem to do as well in soil. I just wasn’t sure if you could do this long term.

    hi, what fertilizer do you add when you plant your dragon in perlite only ? the material is inert if I'm not wrong

  • @adrianagerdsen7602

    How often do you water or plants in perlite? And how do you know that they need water ?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will water it maybe once every 10 days or so. I try and avoid the saggy leaves....I pay close attention to the perlite and leaves.
