- Alocasia dragon scale and silver dragon are some of my favourite alocasia and I care for them in pretty much the same way. So I figured I'd show you how I keep mine happy and healthy! I hope you enjoy!

If you have lights, keep to more than 12hrs over winter and your plants will grow. They won't go into dormancy, as long as they don't get cold
What's the optimum amount of time to leave them on?
I recently got an Alocasia Bambino. It has grown three or four new leaves already. I love the longish narrow leaves. I am in Pennsylvania by the way. I love your videos. Thank you for posting them.

Finally find a video where it's informative and not too much random information. I just need to know how to care for it. So many people just talk about all these facts that has nothing to do with how to care for it. Or they just go on and on... Like… get to the point of how to care for it lol 😂
My favorites~! I have 2 of each and they are looking awesome! My first Silver dragon arrived frozen in the dead of winter, saved 2 of the corms and they are actually growing! Be still my heart!

Just picked up a suffering little alocasia at my local Walmart, poor thing was bone dry and wilting. I know it’s a long shot, but I’m trying to bring it back. Gave it a good drink, and then found it a good spot near my glass door, lots of dappled and screened light💚

I have about 15 different alocasias in Leco with Foliage Pro water mix and flush the leca weekly and have the grow lights on for about 15-17 hours a day and my plant room temp stays at like 76-80 degrees an the humidity stays around 62-65% an my alocasias are growing like crazy!!

Ist isn't so much how much light, than how long (light period). I give my plants about 16 but have dropped to 14.5 for the winter.
I just got my first plant after a plant being killed. I was recommended these and I’ve killed all my plants and am now scared to kill these but I’m so determined. I got a light this time around and have done WAY more info
Hi there, maybe someone in the connects might be about to help me. If it can only handle indirect sunlight (East window) but it can take a grow light for 10 hours is this different to sunlight?

My silver fragon us in a southfacing eindow in Colorado, anout 5,000' elev. My issue is the leaves tend to curl under a little. However, it has a new leaf, very slowly unfurling,🤞🤞, and has pushed up 4 blooms in the last 6 weeks. I would like to know more about the blooms and leaves! Enjoyed your video !!👏👍
I personally cut off the blooms because they use a lot of the plants energy

My silver dragon lives outside on my front porch but I. In Texas, hot and humid. It has done so well. Worried about bringing it in the for the winter.
I bet it loves that texas warmth and humidity! It may go a bit more dormant when it comes in over the winter but just keep it in a bright spot and water less and it shouldn't be too bad
Do you have it in full shade?
Yes, full shade. It may get a ray or two during the day but not long.
Alocasia definitely the hardest in my collection i have lost the Pink Dragon, the Sinuata, Azlanii and the Cuprea. My Scalprum one is struggling. I only have the Dragon Scale and the Silver Dragon left. There watering is the hardest to get it right as they like there soil moist. The problems i get are the yellowing on the leaves and the leaves can tend to grow smaller. Or droop down than standing straight the leaves. Every time i think i am getting a new is not instead is a big bulb bloom which is annoying which i chopped them off so doesn’t concentrate the energy there. I don’t think I won’t be replacing more Alocasia’s if they all die on me.
I had the same problem... Killed couple of alocasia. Now they are my favorite 😅
I just transferred them to leca (I guess it could work with pon as well). Had them for about 2 weeks in water. Be sure to remove all the soil and the rotting roots every couple of days. I have them in a vase so I can check on the roots and water level and they are thriving. I got a wentii, a dragon scale, black velvet, stingray, and zebria black stem?! Or black zebria (don't know the actual name) and a lot of baby's all in leca. They love it in my case
yeah, what she says about having them in pon is the trick. where I live you can't buy pon, so I have mine in leca, with few balls of slow release fertilizer, in chinese wide rim jars, and they finally have more than one leaf. depending on which one, but they are finally growing nicely. I couldn't figure them out back in soil, I would chronically underwater them cause they were crying all the time, which made me assume they were overwatered, but they weren't. mine lost of all of their leaves in soil (and most of their roots too) before i moved them in leca
they are defo some of the most picky plants but honestly I've found that since switching all of mine to pon & self watering, they have been sooooo much easier to keep watered correctly! But i totally get it can be super disheartening

I am getting tomorow a few baby alocasia, dragon scale is one of them. Fingers crossed it survives, the last one i ordered died within days .
Alocasias are for me a hit or miss, i killed one Jacklyn and one Dragon Scale but on the bright side my Micholitziana is drowning me in corms and babies :)
when you say "died" does that mean "died" or "lost all of it's leaves"? cause these plants will do that after discomfort of travel, but it doesn't mean they're dead, by no means
@@mimosveta Sadly, dead dead. They both got rot and there was nothing i could do, luckily i was able to remove in time the corms from the Jacklyn so i have now small babies growing .
Thank you for your mesage , lots of people throw them when they see that all the leaves die , not knowing that the bulbs (when healthy) might push out new growth .
I’m new to plants, so I don’t know if I should hide away my handful of Alocasia corms until Spring OR propagate them now. Any thoughts?
Am also very new to this, repotted my stingray 3-4weeks ago found a couple of corms. I’ve got heat mat and lights so did the shallow puddle method, so far they are rooting. Not sure if it’s a bit late in the season to do that, but as they say nothing ventured, nothing gained. You could always try and put them in a prop box over winter if they take. Or lights?
I suppose you could do either but I'm of the mind that it doesn't really matter when you repot or prop as long as the plants are not getting too cold or sitting in the pure darkness
I propped my first ones over winter I'm pretty sure and it took them a bit longer than they would have in summer but still plenty happy!
Hi Emma have a question for you…got a dragonscale and it appears to have grown something that I thought was a new leaf but it’s not, would that be a sort of flower by any chance? And if so what do I do with it? Lol.. of forgot at add got a similar thing on my Black Velvet 😳
It’s a flower! I got a dragon scale this summer and I had the exact same thing happen and it is most likely a flower! I recommend cutting it so your plant can focus its energy into growing foliage, but it’s totally up to you and your preference! I cut mine and within a week I have had a leaf pop out and it’s starting to unfurl already!

Sounds like a flower to me, but like Gabrielle, I cut mine off to conserve the plant's energy towards growing leaves. I cut it as low as I can without disturbing the other growth
I was relieved that you said you cut off the crispy tips. I've been worried about doing that. Are there any upsides or downsides? I hate the look of browning leaves so I've been hoping I'm not doing any damage cutting them off.
it doesn't do any damage cutting them off, just be sure to use clean scissors as to not get nasty stuff in the cut edge. Otherwise, should be totally fine!

Min dropped all leave except ones.. the roots were bad so I removed, corn and remaining leaf in rinsed pon with reservoir and in a baggie with 100% humidity- do u have any tips or does that setup sound good? Out of all my alocasias this one’s giving me the worst time

How moist do you keep dormant Alocasias? Guessing just on the sightly damp side?
They’re all in pon with water reservoirs so they stay watered as normal I just fill them up less frequently
oh no just got an alocasia silver dragon without looking up any info about it before hand ! im in student housing and only have a south facing window, it’s still in the pot i got it in with not very clumpy soil. i do have it next to a diffuser and away from the window where it’s getting indirect light. anyone reading this who’s good with plants be honest is it going to die 😭. i’d love any advice !! gonna buy a new pot and soil if soon for starters
Sounds like you’re in a good place with it! Don’t stress too much if it drops some older leaves early on. It’s normal when moved to a new environment. You got this!!

How often do your dragons make a new leaf?
it depends on the season but they usually put out a new leaf about once a month in spring and summer, sometimes more frequently

Yeah I have a bunch and a cat and she’s never tried to eat them. But yes they are toxic
Not me being a new plant mom who juat picked up two Alocasias 🫣.
That’s okay! An alocasia was one of my early plants too and it’s still going! They just require slightly more paying attention to 💚 you got this!!
