As usual, I'm absorbing all i can from your videos every day lol. The way you narrate is spot on brother. Keep em coming, I might eventually catch up lol
I watched your video and then checked my Collection of Pontiac V8 and Chevy Turbo 400 Transmissions. I have 2 HD Pontiac Turbo 400s. They have the Reinforced Ribs by the Front Pump Inner Bellhousing. Reinforced webbed Upper Bellhousing Ears. 1 is a 1970 PA Code from a Bonneville 455 Convertible I bought with the 1970 455 YH Code 455 360 Hp 500ft/lbs rated engine. It's a Longshaft Turbo 400. The 2 nd HD Pontiac Case TH400 is from a 1976 Pontiac 400 CI Police Car. Code PA also but has the Short Shaft Tailhousing. My 3Rd Pontiac V8 Turbo 400 is apart, no HD case, it has the 8-bolt case pump Code PR from a 1969 Grand Prix 428 HO 390 Hp it's a short shaft tailhousing. 4th Pontiac Turbo is from a 1976 Pontiac Grand Prix no HD Case. Short shaft. Good core yet also. Thanks for Videos. Learned more about Turbo 400s I never knew about. I use a Turbo 400 in my 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix 1976 455 520 Hp Pump gas 93 octane. Using a Chevy 1988 Code LTA TH400 with a TCI BOP to Chevy V8 steel adapter plate kit. Have to get one of The Pontiac V8 Turbo 400 done rebuilding. Have All the parts to do an 800 Hp build. Use the cleaned up disassembled ready to build 1969 Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo 400 was the plan. Got side tracked with other projects. Was unsure what else I needed for 800Hp power capacity. Your Videos Helped Tremendously. Thank You. Brian R.
I wondered why my other 2 other Pontiac HD Cased 8-bolt pumps looked so weird different from all the other Turbo 400s I have. Now I know they are HD Turbo 400s ! Looks Like only Pontiac 455 cars and Pontiac Police Cars got the HD Turbo 400 8-bolt pump cases from Pontiac Motors. Keep an eye out for Tubo 400 Cadillac, Oldsmobile, and Buicks yet local here.
Most BOP cases are 8 bolt. I NEVER cut off the bell on a Chevy case, unless the bell is damaged. BOP units are much easier to find, and almost no one wants them anyway.
Hey Shawn, One of my 8 bolt cases, which is an HD, has 76 AA on the tag and/or large single A's on each side of the Tag. Can't find what they mean. It came out of 76 Caddy with the 500 with a 563 unit and steel pistons Thanks Keith
Shawn Thank You! when I found your videos i knew i could build my th400 to live behind my new LS 5.3, twin-turbo (covid build) . Now i can ditch the 200-4r ( bought a kit form CK years ago) and put down some power. Question, i have the FTI case saver to install. I'm concerned about removing the lug from the case. (BOP HP case). I heard, heat the case and drive the pin out...make me nervous. Any experience driving the pins out of the case?
I drove two out today, just a hammer and a punch, about three hits. No special prep, I clean out the hole and test fit the bolt to be sure it will fit when I am ready to assemble.
Could you please explain straight cut gears in a glide and the benefit to and what 1st gear normally is paired with also? Thanks so much for what you do
Stock ratios were 1.76 and 1.82, many aftermarket ratios are available. Starting line ratio for your HP and tire type can be adjusted in first gear ratio, rear axle ratio, and tire height. Straight cut gears create less thrust while working.
Hi Shawn can you turn down the intermediate piston to get more than 5 clutch’s or is 4 the most you can fit love all this info plz keep the videos coming Cheers from OZ
I just ran across this video when I picked up a BOP th400. Im pretty sure I have that case that you are describing. Do you have an email i can send some pics and get some info maybe?

Looks Like only Pontiac 455 cars and Pontiac Police Cars got the HD Turbo 400 8-bolt pump cases from Pontiac Motors.

I don’t have a complete list of tag IDs, hopefully the internet has some info?

Wish I could find one! Ugh
I have a 8 bolt Pontiac case
I would be interested in a Chevy case for swap.
Can't you drill (and tap) a 6 bolt case for 8 bolt bell. I have seen threads on it but have not seen any videos on it.
Yes if the case has the extra bosses. Some do.
Could you please explain straight cut gears in a glide and the benefit to and what 1st gear normally is paired with also? Thanks so much for what you do
I no expert but to my knowledge straight cut gears are better for strength and others like the for noise.

Yes you can cut the aluminum pistons down to .580-.600 to get up to 6 clutches. Thanks!
