I remember this so well. From 1977 to 1982 we went to Brewers games. This was the pinnacle of it. The World Series! So close, so close, but as painful as it was, we ended up losing. That was brutal, but this game, this ending, was really special! What a day that was!

Mike Caldwell was my favorite player. For quite a few reasons, but one really special one. At the end of the 1978 season, well the last HOME game of the regular season that is, we were waiting outside in the parking lot for the players. They, well most of them would sign autographs for us kids. I can't remember exactly what player or players had come out further down the lot, but I do know that I either had their autographs already, or was hoping for someone else. Which happened. Mike Caldwell came out of the Brewers office door. I remember seeing him and I was ready to yell, Mike Caldwell!!, but he held up his ✋hand✋and gave me a 🤫shhh🤫. He said that he really wanted to get home to see his family before they had to leave for the last road trip of the year. I did exactly what he said. He signed my Brewers yearbook. He had tossed his dufflebag into the trunk. Then he paused, he reached back into his trunk and he pulled out his Brewers Home🧢cap🧢. He looked at me and he said, "Thanks a lot kid." and he put the cap on my head. He gave me his game worn ⚾️🧢Baseball⚾️Cap🧢⚾️. That season he won 22 games and had the second best ERA among starting pitchers. Only Ron Guidry was better with a 1.74 ERA and a 25-3 record. Mike Caldwell was runner-up for the Cy-Young Award. But most of all, I looked up to him so much. I was also left handed like he was. I was playing Little League and I was hoping to become a Pitcher, but sadly I wasn't able to do it. Although I did accomplish one thing. I was the only LEFT Handed 2nd Baseman in our league. Those years were incredibly special times for me. I was able to meet some of the best players the Brewers have ever had. Robin Yount, Paul Molitor, Gorman Thomas, Ben Oglive, Jim Gantner, Charlie Moore, Lary Sorenson, Moose Haas, Billy Travers, Bob McClure, Eddie Romero, Sixto Lezcano, Pete Ladd, Pete Vuckovich, and, well the one guy who was never good about signing autographs, Cecil Cooper. However there was one other guy. Not a player anymore, but a person who KNEW the game. Acted in Hollywood Television and movies. BOB UECKER! And he was one of the funniest guys, one of the nicest guys, and easily most accommodating guys of everyone. He truly loved the fans. Bob Uecker is the BEST!! He deserves every accolade he gets, and every single compliment he receives, there is nobody who deserves it more than Bob Uecker. Again these were some of the most incredible experiences I've ever had!

True story, I was born during this game.
Nobody was paying attention to my mom when she was in labor because everyone was watching this. There was no football due to a strike. After I was born, my dad wanted to go to another room to watch the game.

You would have thought that the Brewers won the World Series with all those fans running out on the field at the end of the game. There’s no pre-celebration in sports!
