That's a beautiful Intarsia Bob! Your shaping and precise fitting of each piece is amazing. I will have to share this with the Intarsia artists in our local woodworking club.
Another great success Bob, I bet your wife was over the moon. I hope you and your family had a great Christmas and that the New Year brings you good fortune. Best regards Bob
Thank you Bob, My wife was very happy with the "Snow Couple". I trust you had a Merry CHRISTmas and cheers to a very Happy and prosperous New Year to you too my friend. Regards, Bob
Your welcome, I enjoy Intarsia but would recommend you start with a small project. A larger project will look and be cooler but it takes so much time that it could get frustrating. A small project will allow you to accomplish the build as well as learn about some of the issues you'll face and how to handle them without getting you overwhelmed. Than you can upsize as your comfort level increases. Welcome to an amazing hobby. Regards, Bob
Thank you very much, I think I get a little better each time I make one. I really need to make one or two small ones durning the year to keep in practice and find better ways to do this process. Regards, Bob
Thank you Fredrik, Intarsia is a labor of Love. It takes many hours of cutting, shaping, and sanding but the end result is always beautiful. My wife treasures all of the Intarsia's I have done for her. She even leaves the CHRISTmas themed ones hanging all year. I trust you and your family had a very Merry CHRISTmas and wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year. Regards, Bob

Hi, really loved your video and will start tracking back through your old episodes. I have recently retired and looking for a new hobby and this has been on my list but having watched your work I feel this is the stuff of champion. Our family has decided that Xmas is getting too expensive nowdays and loosing alot of the real meaning so we have decided on a homemade project for next year and I reckon it is just the most splendid idea. I will follow your work with a keen sense of anticipation. Have great Xmas to you and your family from us all here in NSW, AUS
+Gordon Agent Hello Gordon, I think your family is on the right track and homemade gifts will be much more appreciated. My one suggestion with Intarsia is to start with a small one, maybe 10 pieces or so. That way you can make sure it's for you before you invest the time. They can take a bit of time to make. Here's a link to a video from my other channel where I show the ones I've made: th-cam.com/video/t50ESPeOJ84/w-d-xo.html Here's a link to an Intarsia Vlog there I step through a build: th-cam.com/play/PLd8OGJeP3PxmYA45FFx8sK65wAkp4cnXa.html Regards, Bob
Absolutely stunning Bob, your talents seem to know no bounds. Like Brendan says my patience level would leave me wanting for a project like this, but watching you produce this little masterpiece was both inspiring and enthralling. Happy New Year, and take care Mike
Thank you Mike, I appreciate your kind words. I hope you had a very Merry CHRISTmas and I wish you and your family a Happy and prosperous New Year. Regards, Bob
Thank you, Intarsia is a fun but lengthy process. I am a rank amateur compared to many other who practice the discipline. My wife loves it and I love shop time and hate to shop so it's a win win for me. I did the VLog last year that was more of a step by step if your interested. Regards, Bob
Thank you, The first one you make will be the worst one. After that you know what to do and they get much easier. You should attempt a small one, maybe a pattern under 10 to 15 pieces. Once you complete it, you'll want to do a larger pattern. That's what happened to me. Regards, Bob Regards, Bob
Thank you, Scrolling is so relaxing. I love Intarsia, the finished pieces are beautiful. I make one each year for my wife as a Christmas gift. It keeps me out of the mall and in the shop. :^) Regards, Bob
That's super work. I love how you got a really organic look to the pieces and really got the 3-d effect beautifully. I'll probably never do this because I don't think I have the patience but I do like watching an expert. Best Wishes and a Happy New Year. Brendan.
Thank you Brendan, I am by no means an expert, I have so much to learn. My biggest desire is to work more on the shaping, I want it to be more realistic. I probably need to watch some TH-cam videos on the subject. Regards, Bob
RJBWoodTurner You are hard on yourself Bob, I think you've done a great job and given a realistic 3-d effect. We all find fault with our work and things we can improve but you are working at a very high standard now so you are looking at very minor details I suspect. Best Wishes, Brendan.
You're going to get sick of my name popping up, haha. This is so beautiful! We bought our house almost a year ago, and around Christmas time, we were walking through the neighborhood and stopped to talk with a neighbor who does all kinds of wood cut outs and birds and such. He showed us what he called his "Christmoose" that he had hanging in his shop - I fell in love with him. Its an Intarsia. (If you do a google search for "Christmoose Intarsia" it was the first result for me) When we were getting ready to leave, he walked over, took the moose down and handed him to me and told me to take good care of him. He refused to let us pay him, so we ended up going back and buying one of his birds. =) I love all things Winter and Christmas, but that Christmoose is probably my favorite thing ever. I love that a neighbor made him by hand and it wasnt mass produced in some factory somewhere. Sorry this was so long, just wanted to share my moose intarsia! =)
+Sarah P Thank you for sharing, I love hearing about other woodworkers and I especially love hearing from people who appreciate hand crafted items. Quite a lot of love goes into every hand crafted piece and that's something you just don't get from a mass produced plastic item. The only thing people who make like to do as much as making is talk about their craft. You feel free to talk, ask, and comment as offer as you like. I only make the Christmas Intarsia's for my wife, it's kind of a tradition. I make her a gift every year. Intarsia is a labor of love because it takes so long to make. I've never sold one and probably never will only because I can't bear to part with something I spent so much time on. They become a part of you. Regards, Bob

Thank you, This is very good input, I was trying to keep it short, sweet, and to the point as I tend to get wordy some times and I didn't want another 20 min video. You are not the only person to mention that, I received a couple PM's mentioning the same thing. I will be sure to show a few shots of the tools working on my next Intarsia. Happy New Year! Just started scroll sawing and enjoyed your video. Will check out your 16 episodes how this came to be. Thanks!
Thank you.
Very nicely done. About to get a scroll saw and get started with some beginner stuff but that Intarsia was awesome. Thanks for sharing
Your welcome,
I enjoy Intarsia but would recommend you start with a small project.

Bob

You are going to love that Dewalt, it is an amazing tool. I purchased the Snow Couple pattern here:

+RJBWoodTurner HI Bob and a Happy New Year to you and your family. I have juist watched the snowmen again and one question I forgot to ask was what is the wood used for the base of the snowmen. It was a blue/grey colour? Malcolm
Good morning Malcolm,
I use Blue Pine for the base.

I loved your video. How do you minimize the gaps between pieces?
Hello Joe,
I use a rasp, files and lots of sand paper. Many times, I will recut a piece if I don't like the fit. Intarsia is a labor of love and I only make them as gifts for my wife because I could never part with one after spending so many hours cutting and fitting all the pieces.

I got mine at www.scrollsaweronline.com. It’s called snow couple.

Love the work. Do you come up with the design or do you a source for them?
Thank you John,
I do not yet make my own patterns. The Snow Couple pattern is from Bruce Worthington and I purchased it from workshopsupply.com. The rest of my patterns are either Judy Gail Roberts or Kathy Wise.

Looks really good. How did you do the mouth on the male snowman? Did you cut it with the scroll saw or did you just draw his mouth?
Hello Cliff,
Thank you. I used a soldering iron and burned the mouth into the wood. I drew it first with a pencil so I could get it right.
