  • Old crow gets a shifter. Covid 19 craziness is still in full force so I just use what is laying around to get it done.

    From what the Shifters of Southern California created, to this. Things have definitely changed. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, a Rat Rod was a traditional Hot Rod that lacked certain elements such as paint and/or upholstery. Those Shifters cars had neat vintage Olds,Caddy,Pontiac, & Flathead engines. Even the owners were a throw back to the 50s with their Ducktail hair , white t-shirts, and rolled denims. Somewhere along the line however, things changed. Rat Rods went from period correct nostalgic time machines, to these Mad Max Warrior nonsensical cars that are purposely built to be rusty, and have several different era's thrown together. People like Welder Up perpetuate this movement. Thank God for magazines like Rodders Journal.

      So if not a rat rod, what would you call a car that has rust or patina for a finish and made out of random makes of cars?

    • @V8Deuce
      @V8Deuce 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HardCoreFab Simply put, a pile of rust with no sense or creativity . Following fads is easy. Starting one (and building a period correct 1950s Hot Rod) is a lot harder to do.

      HardCore Fab brother you do you. Dudes like this are probably moderators on the HAMB and hate when you ask a question about something that isn’t period correct. Hot rodding and rat rodding are about using whatever you have to express yourself and be cool! Your build makes sense and it has a theme. It’s the old crow, and I see it all over your truck and in your spirit. As far as a shifter goes, I’d use torch mate to cut one out of flat stock and make it look similar to the old hurst shifters. Then put holes in it to mimic your cantilevers, engine mounts and trans mounts. Technically speaking that’s part of your drive train so why not keep the theme going on your gear shifter like you did on your bracketry? You could always get several old wrenches and use small pieces of thread all with buts on them to connect them together. You could shape it with any curve you want, then weld it in place.

    • @THEoriginaljmelford
      @THEoriginaljmelford 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jalopy was meant as a term of endearment to us and not derogatory. My grandpa probably didn't like them

    Make a shifter out of a old wrench closed end upwards then you could get medalions made or make some of a crow put in closed end hole or corona bottle caps so you bring corona inside cab also

    If you want to go with your gun theme for the shifter. Go to a gun Smith and get a junk cylinder from a 357 or 44 mag. Get some empty shell casings. Weld it to a piece of rebar and there you go. A shifter.

    Alt spacer for SBC is what that was.
    As far as the shifter goes, maybe an old BB pistol or something similar.
    Cool video by the way.

    The shifter could be made on your nice cutting machine with the same design that’s on your front struts curved with the holes in it. But instead of the holes you gotta tag your shop name into it or put old crow cut into the shift arm.

    Please, don't cut the rifle! You'd be better off finding an old single shot 12gauge, and a shotgun fits better to the build. When the truck was new, everybody had a shotgun in their truck. Building your own shifter setup is in the true spirit of the era from the time when the truck was built. You couldn't always go to a store to get what you needed, so you had to rely on ingenuity and your own skills. It's just the way it was. By the way, the shifter setup looks great! Sure hope the wheels show up soon, so we can finaly see the end result!

    CnC cut out a gun and rivet some wood on each side for a stock, you can stack the metal to make it a hexagon barrel and make the trigger look more realistic.
