    Perfect timing on this video. My daughter has asked me to build one for her. Looks good.

    I've recently brought my woodworking Hobbie to a part time side business. Just got an order for a custom hall tree. I'm definitely going to use a lot of your tips to help out with the build!

      @@DavidBoston-rx2yi Hi! Unfortunately, I don't have plans. It's a very custom piece on a lot of ways. The base concept is to rip 12" pieces for the top box. 16" for the bottom box. Add bench top, face frame, and trim as desired. Thanks for watching!

    Hi, I probably missed it. How wide is the hall tree, please.

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@rogerrichard551 hi! I think this one was about 36 inches wide. But if your buildinging it, it can be a swide as you want. The top back is 12"deep and the bench box is 16"deep. Thanks for watching!

    Only thing I wonder is if the bench since it’s glued like a table top will split over time since it’s screwed in from the top piece and there’s no movement allowed?

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not sure if I understand how's there's no movement allowed? The top peice is not glued to the bench top. There are only a couple screws that hold it down that are perpendicular to the grain. Other screws are along the back which are along the grain and won't interfere with movement.

    • @Ryan82288
      @Ryan82288 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@wooddoofus ah i see only reason I asked is because I’m building one for the first time and that was my only concern of attaching the top to the bench. I always hear of horror stories of bench tops or table tops needing movement and splitting without proper fasteners.

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh oh oh. That's a good clarification. I filmed it but kinda skipped over the fasteners. For this, I used figure 8 table top fasteners that allow for movement. These and z clips are very popular to allow for movement. I think my tilt out trash cabinet video (part 2) explains the figure 8s in some detail. Take a look if.you have time and thanks so much for watching!

    Why have 2 halves of wood and have to use inserts with dows and glue? You don’t / can’t have a longer piece of wood?

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  ปีที่แล้ว

      If I understand you, you're wondering why I don't find a solid peice of wood to the bench top that's 18 inches wide? Since I wanted my top to be solid oak, I used the oak boards that I had on hand and it's very typical in woodworking to edge join solid wood. An 18" wide board would be difficult to find and expensive. One option would be oak veneered plywood but I would still need to cover the plywood edge with solid strips of oak. Hope this helps.

    Do you sell plans for this bench

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not yet. I haven't been organized enough to develop plans. This was a custom build but generally, I used 12 inch deep plywood on the top section. 16" deep sections on the bottom bench. The lengths can be whatever you want. The seat can be made of any solid wood. I used 3/4 oak and joined it with dowels. It was important to add a stretcher behind the panel at the point where the hanging hooks are so they have something to screw in to. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!

    Why do you not have closed captioning? I prefer to watch TH-cam with no sound so as not to disturb others. I very much like the design of your hall tree.

    • @wooddoofus
      @wooddoofus  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I'm didn't know I had had closed captioning off but I'll look into it. I thought it was a setting from the watchers side of things.👍🤔

      Well I a appreciate the comment but I got super confused by it. I finally figured out that you were probably talking about selling "plans". I guess auto correct gotcha 😁 but yes, I hope to one day be organized enough to sell plans.👍
