Thanks for explaining your process. Super fun project. 👍🇺🇸
Thanks for sharing. I made one with scraps! Did espresso and gunstock stain for color scheme cause I already had them.

Brave man to show us you secrets to the waves
@@ss31736 hopefully there's enough market for all of us to differentiate our products.🙂👍
Not sure how I feel about the American flag being used as a table top, but I do like the overall form and style. I think I'll make one and just plank the top.
Why didn't you do the crimp fitting first and then slide the new valve into the box and then connect the shark bites?? Seems like it would have been sssooo much easier that way.
@@DaveSchmidt-hk8sb it's been years. I can't really remember the details. 😅👍
These are beautiful!
@@kellisegroves3955 Thank you!
I've seen a lot of waving wooden flags. Easily these look best. Excellent video
@@powellpatterson4928 WOW! Thanks so much!
The first time I saw one of these wavy flags like this, a buddy of mine at work had it - and I was blown away with how impressive it looked. Thank you for taking the time to show us how one might be made. They look great! I have family in the military, and I’m considering trying your method to make a few of these flags, but route out a spot for an 8x10” photo on the stripes-side so that it basically becomes a picture frame. I’m already excited to try and see if that’s something I can execute given my very basic woodworking skills… Would even work for changing the stain to have a Blue line for law enforcement as well. I love the concept and thanks again for the inspiration!

Can you do the US peace time flag?
@@Bongobuddconner I just looked up a picture. I've never made one. You can message me on my Facebook business page if your looking for a custom order. You can click my link on the video description or search Wood Doofus on Facebook.👍
Another word worker not telling everybody how many hours he has involved in making these so therefore you really don't know what the real profit is unless your time is worth nothing
@@Copycatcarnivore I said 15 hours towards the beginning of the video. So I've determined my hourly income on this project is about $50-$60 per hour. Logistics are very important in minimizing precious time. Not every video is going to be comprehensive but time mgt is a good topic for another video.
Sorry I missed the live!
Sounds fine
What circuit marker did you use. Is it possible to send me the stencil me.

Nice job !....is it necessary to do the burn stage?...looks like after I finish my chess boards, I will make your flag...thanks for sharing
@@larrybaker5316 I feel the burn stage is important if stain will be used. Simply bc the stain will typically have a much richer color and deeper penetration when the wood is burned. If some is just using paint and isn't interested in the burn marks, then it's not necessary. Thanks for watching.
I was doing a bunch of repetitive cuts a few years back on my table saw and just barely nipped the skin on the end of my left thumb. Got very lucky, but absolutely, STAY FOCUSED.

@@wooddoofus I GUESS I HAVE MADE IT THEN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😅😅🤣🤣🤣🤣
The design treatment of the legs is a really nice touch. Could a 3-leg bench work out for uneven surfaces? It may be more like a REALLY wide stool (no fat guys on one end). Living in the Pacific NW, I'm attracted to outdoor furniture that's easily stored. Maybe the legs could fit into sockets with 'wedged, through-tenons' spanning between them and a supply of wedges ready to tighten up everything (legs in sockets) as the seasons change? (Or, maybe not... especially the 3-leg stool/bench)
@@marcothehammer for leveling, I think the simplest solution is adjustable feet. I'm not sure if there's a similar solution for outdoor furniture. I'm guessing if this is outdoor, you would just need shims under the feet for any wobble since surfaces and air conditions would constantly be shifting the wood. Thanks for watching!👍
Don't know what to call that contraption...the 'DIY Corner Clamp'? Call it the 'Boota-Jig' in honor of the remarkable Transportation Secretary, Pete Buttigieg (not that there's anything wrong with 'that'... we're all FRIENDS). I'm sure he has a good sense of humor and won't mind. Add a few dowels to the corners and you'll have really solid joints. Or, get a hold of an inexpensive dovetail jig. After some trial and error (maybe - maybe not) they're fun to mess around with. They do make the strongest drawers.
Yeah, I try not to over-engineer drawer boxes. I've made dozens at this point and this basic method has never failed. 👍

Very cool. And super-thanks for the great explanation of how it's done.
Thanks for watching!
This really is a fantastic project using tools a lot of home shops already have. Get a print shop (UPS, etc) to make a small batch of stencils, then buy the Cricket with some of the proceeds. It's a really cool idea that should sell quickly! AND NO TWO ARE IDENTICAL!
$100 seems expensive, I personally would not pay that but to each their own. Nice job either way. Good luck.

I’m interested in becoming a wood dufus myself. Do you have a video on what tools I need to do a project like this one? I’d like to get decent ones that will do the job well.
@@ryanrogers8211 Hi! Well I don't have an official video on the tools. But this project is good for using just the basic set that every woodworker should have. Table saw, miter saw, drill, router, orbital sander. The Ryobi is a good starter brand for most tools, but I wouldn't but the table saw if I could go back in time. Get a DeWalt at least. I stepped up to Makita on a lot of tools like my drill driver set and my orbital sander. These were big improvements. Oh and clamps. You need lots of clamps.
@ got it, thanks for the tips. I’ll definitely go with the brands you recommend.
Outstanding 😊💪🏼 thank you for this tutorial.

Great detailed video. I've seen these flags around at flea markets and other places but never knew how it was done. Looks like it takes some patience to batch 'em out like that but it sounds like your patience is paying off! Great job on the work and the video!

Hello, I am undergoing the exact same project right now, except I am a complete rookie and wish I found this video sooner. Anyway, my 1960'2 kitchen has the exact same doors as yours and I did not cut the lip off (wish I knew that was an option). I added the 2 inch boards I got at Lowe's, and did it with wood glue. I have 17 cupboards and all of mine are different sizes too, so I am now starting my 9 month on the project. I work full time in the Bay Area and commute, so time is limited for me when I work on them. I have run into several issues I am hoping you can help me with. First is how to fill the gap between trim and door? I have tried wood filler, spackle, caulking, and even all purpose joint compound, and they all suck! LOL. I cannot seem to get them smooth enough to paint without lines or bumps showing up. I have sanded the hell ,out them, but I still don't have a nice surface to paint, so I keep trying to redo them. Tonight I bought a plane and going to see how that works. Another problem I noticed is the gap between trim and door on the front facing of the door. I tried to fill them with caulking, but the residue shows up. I just want to finish this so I can get all of my dishes and food out of boxes and put them back into the cupboards. Love your videos! Thank you,
@@leahwyeth1608 I know what it's like to dive into a project and find yourself in over your head or have it take way longer then you thought. I wish I could give you a magic solution to your gap issues but you've tried everything that makes sense. Sometimes the technique is key with scraping of excess before it dries but I don't know your situation. At the end of the day when we're doing our own projects, we have to decide when it's good enough or if we're gonna quit and do something else. For me, I tell myself that it will have to do until I can afford to change it again. Good luck!
Have plans?? Live the video
@@DavidBoston-rx2yi Hi! Unfortunately, I don't have plans. It's a very custom piece on a lot of ways. The base concept is to rip 12" pieces for the top box. 16" for the bottom box. Add bench top, face frame, and trim as desired. Thanks for watching!

I think the benches would have been a LOT stronger if they just had a couple of diagonal pieces to give some sheer strength.
@@SirNomad I think that kind of sheer strength is needed for much taller structures. I consider these low to the ground benches to be overkill on strength and racking resistance. Been using them for a while now. Just my thoughts.👍
