@@GardenHappy Yes, well it has both yellow and white varieties. We have both. One is over 20 feet tall. We call it "The Beast". We have two others, yellow and white, that cascade over our backyard fence. They are gorgeous but labor intensive come pruning time.
This rose is absolutely wonderful 🌹! I've never seen anything like this! I can imagine it in your garden! I can't wait to see it growing and blooming!❤️🌹👍👍👍
Shropshire Lass was a favorite rose I grew in the Pacific Northwest. It grew huge with arching branches in every direction. Its beautiful scent could be smelled from many feet away. Its single petals are really not for cutting but just for gazing at and smelling though I would bring in some roses inside to enjoy a few times. It gave me no problems that I can think of. So if you have a space where you can grow it and forget about it as far as for care, go for it. One year I decided to prune it, it was like pruning a tree, there were so many canes. Whew! But it outshined my other roses nearby for scent, size and even color which I would describe as a soft ‘sunset.’ If you choose it give it lots and lots of space like ten feet to avoid crowding other plants. A cutting was grown into a standard at a different location which I pruned to keep it that way. It would blow in the wind like a wind sock.
Oh my GOODNESS!!!! I just researched that rose and you are right!!! It i absolutely STUNNING!!! The pink color and tones are GORGEOUS!!! I have never grown a rose from David Austin but here they are divine! Thank you so much for sharing this comment with me. I love learning new things and hearing about what other people grow in their gardens. So I appreciate you taking the time to talk to me. Thank you!!! Liz
Double delight is an incredible rose. What a beauty and what a perfume it generates. My favorite rose. In the second position comes "Red Intuition". Its petals are of an unbelievable beauty
Thank you Fareede so much for your lovely comment. I appreciate you taking the time to watch my video. I have never heard of red intuition now I am intrigued. I will definitely look into that. Thank you again. ❤️❤️❤️Liz
I found my favorite rose at least 20 years ago. I was at a local art fair where I saw my beautiful yellow rose from a ways off and literally ran over to it. It was already love at first sight, but once I saw it's name was Teasing Georgia, I HAD to have it. My Kentucky Moonshiner Grandma was named Georgianna and was a big practical joker all her life. I felt like finding it was a wink from her and it's proven to be a very hardy and prolific bloomer. It survived a move in the July heat with temps over 100° soaking in a 5 gallon bucket for over a week, our droughts, hard water, and extreme winter cold. And it smells so good, to boot!. 🥰😍🥰
Hello Denise and thank you for this lovely comment!!! Your yellow rose was indeed love at first sight and so meant to be! And what a GREAT name!!! My mother had the double delight rose while I was in my teens in Fallbrook, CA. It's a lovely rose, with an extravagant fragrance. Thank you for your video. Double Delight has also been my favorite!! I’m going to try something different. At our previous home, I had DD ‘s planted in a rose bed. This time , going to get two large ceramic pots and planting them straddling a concrete bench in our backyard garden. From my research, looks like Hybrid teas will do well in pots. I usually only plant floribundas in pots. Wish me luck !!!
Hey there Dave and thank you for taking the time to leave me this comment. It’s the second year in my double delight rose has definitely doubled in size. I've grown Double Delight for years; it's a real fave. I do provide winter protection in zone 4 and prune it down hard in spring. The perfume is of a spicy gallica rose. And yes, two would look amazing in your garden! Double Delight is amongst the phototropic roses which includes Imperatrice Farah (my favourite hybrid tea) and a few others. prefer cane hardy shrub roses and old garden types in my yard, however; my favourites in the group of tender roses include Red Devil, Stephen's Big Purple, Westminster Pink, Philatelie, Garden Delight, Distant Drums, Marie-Caroline, Philatelie, St. Swithun, Munsted Wood, Rose de Rescht, Indigo and Yolande d'Aragon are but a few that I can also enjoy as cut flowers; all very fragrant.
Wow Mickey that is some awesome information. You were so kind to share with me. I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to comment. Hi Liz, enjoyed visiting the nursery with you. I too love scented roses. I have several... my favorite is a bright yellow scented rose named after Henry Fonda. My most favorite is an orange scented rose (don't remember the name). Living in Tucson, Arizona I have grown to love the orange, apricot, and peach colors in the garden. I have plenty of blue thanks to Mexican Petunias which grow like weeds here. Also I have yellow black Eyed Susan vines which are everywhere including winding through my rose bushes making fall/spring clean up 'fun.' lol
Hi Barbara oh yes I have heard of the Henry Fonda!!! If only I had a larger property I would have HUNDREDS of roses and more plants! I love Double Delight but no hybrid teas do well in my area so I have to content myself with the others. I enjoy how Double Delight changes color with temps and the amount of sunlight it gets. My favorites I lean into right now are 'own root' roses because if they get killed back to the ground in freak weather (which we get here in the mountains of N. Calif) then the rose will come back from the root true. When I lived in the San Joaquin valley I could grow any kind of rose, or I should say they loved it there and grew well, I doubt I had anything to do with it. 😀 Lovely nursery, can you share the name of it?
Hello flower patch farmhouse thank you so much for your wonderful comment. I totally agree with you about the differences between hybrid and own root. I have a hybrid tea rose in my garden that set out a sucker and the roses are completely different colored. It’s kind of hard to get on route roses nowadays. But I agree with you I think those are absolutely best. The way God intended before man tried to change everything right? The nursery I shop at is called Morris nursery in Riverbank California. I have done some garden tours on that nursery in the past. Thank you again for your kind words I appreciate you for stopping by and sharing all those thoughts with me. Have a wonderful day.
@@GardenHappy Oh wow, I just drove by that nursery last Friday. I wanted to stop and take a look but had a carload of new chickens and needed to get them home quickly. They only do own root and is a go to for me since I have such weird weather. Grafted roses are still more common but I have seen more and more own root via Jackson and Perkins and others. Even David Austin roses started doing more own root roses.
Hello again flower patch farmhouse, I am a little confused now you said you just drove by that nursery but then you said the hybrid tea roses don’t do well in your area. Do you live near Riverbank? I don’t know why the hybrid tees would not do good in your area unless you were passing through and you live far away. That is so exciting that you got new chickens. I am getting some new baby chicks as well. Did you get pullets that are a little bit older? I would love to know where you got yours from being that it sounds like you are in the same area as me. Sorry for all the questions I am already learning a lot from you that is why I ask.
@@GardenHappy No problem, I live in Arnold, up Hwy 4. I think the hybrid teas are more sensitive to our erratic spring weather. I was heading to Modesto Feed on McHenry to pick up the chickens. @Happy well u right , the label face to face each other people didn't see, or was gone long time ago, i am pretty sure they brings 10 of them, just the way lined up in racks there ..i guess i was lucky , i give u few roses from only Nursery u can buy & have them in my yard for years & is absolute mind boggling in smells & growth , Barbara Streisand, John Paul 2, Fire fighter, Perfume Delight , for showcase red rose Ingrid Bergman absolutely show stopper how velvety smooth dark rose is, never lose the color in sun , don't have scent ,but is Gorgeous & out standing rose to look at, u can see all of them in You tube!
Those varieties sound wonderful. Yes I have heard of perfume delight. It smells glorious. How amazing and awesome that you have all those roses. Thank you so much for your comment. I enjoy reading about them and hope you have a beautiful day in your garden.👍❤️🥰Liz
Thank you for taking the time to watch my video. I appreciate your comment as well. In order to check your soil, you can dig a hole about 1 foot deep. Fill it with water. Wait about 10 minutes and see if the water is gone. If the water is still there, then your soil does not drain. Very good. If the water is gone, then you have a good draining soil. I hope that helps! 🥰👍❤️Liz
This video is more blog of a trip to the nursery than a video about tips and tricks on growing it. Nothing on soil prep, what fertilizer or soil amendments used.
Thank you for taking the time to share your comments. Whenever I make videos I always try to be myself and candid (or a blog style as you put it) while sharing some tips as well. In this video I included tips based on my own personal ( non professional) experience. I do apologize that my title and description was misleading. well u right , the label face to face each other people didn't see, or was gone long time ago, i am pretty sure they brings 10 of them, just the way lined up in racks there ..i guess i was lucky , i give u few roses from only Nursery u can buy & have them in my yard for years & is absolute mind boggling in smells & growth , Barbara Streisand, John Paul 2, Fire fighter, Perfume Delight , for showcase red rose Ingrid Bergman absolutely show stopper how velvety smooth dark rose is, never lose the color in sun , don't have scent ,but is Gorgeous & out standing rose to look at, u can see all of them in You tube!
Those varieties sound wonderful. Yes I have heard of perfume delight. It smells glorious. How amazing and awesome that you have all those roses. Thank you so much for your comment. I enjoy reading about them and hope you have a beautiful day in your garden.👍❤️🥰Liz
Oh I can't wait to see when they're blooming! I love looking at roses 😍Do they have fragance Liz? Great tips!
Yes they do!!! One of the most intense and intoxicating fragrance of all roses! Thank you for stopping by my friend! 🥰🥰🥰
I love roses … I want to plant my double delight on the ground too .. but how do I know if my soil is well drain
🥰👍❤️Liz
@@GardenHappy thank you

Very Nice video my new friend Foll support to ✌️🔔⏰️🙏👈
Ok thank you so much for stopping by! ❤️🥰👍🌸
That certainly was not my intention and I have corrected that. Thank you again for watching my video and sharing your feedback. I sincerely appreciate your comment. 👍👍👍 Liz
