Merv did a revamp in the early 1980s to his theme song. It was essentially the same theme, but was a little more upbeat with maybe a fender Rhodes and some shaded, descending chords and a woman beating out drums with hwr hands and smiling in the intro. It, too, is quite spectacular. I've searched high and low on the internet and can't find it. I would be eternally grateful if somebody could post that. I think I have it on Dish DVR, but wouldn't know how to upload it.
To be fair, the demographics of the Lettermen audience may have been such that they really didn't know who Merv Griffin was. In any event, I'm startled but thrilled by the rapidity of your reply on such a infrequently visited video.
May I add that the Merv Griffin Show theme song gives me chills and makes me cry. And Letterman's band guy, whose name I forget (Paul?), did an excellent job with the soaring and honking trumpet. Truly spectacular, sincerely. May I also add that Trump bested Merv in some kind of a real estate negotiation back in the late 80s. Google that.
Yeah, this was an early upload, and I don't honestly remember the reason for putting up just the intro. I'm surprised it's gotten so many views for such a relatively minor clip.
This was near the end of the Era when Dave was still "into" doing the show. LOL. I truly miss him and Merv. Thanks for sharing.
The person that created Jeopardy the best show on earth 😊

No version was better than the original with Mort Lindsey and his orchestra.
it's our good friend George Costanza! turn music off
Letterman insults Merv by telling him "nobody knows who you are." Essentially.
Merv was a frequent guest, and the "insults" were in jest.
