Sofia Villani Scicolone Dame Grand Cross OMRI (b.1934) known professionally as Sophia Loren is an Italian actress. She is one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Encouraged to enroll in acting lessons after entering a beauty pageant, Loren began her film career at age 16 in 1950. Notable film appearances around this time include The Pride and the Passion, Houseboat, and It Started in Naples. Loren's performance as Cesira in the movie Two Women (1961) directed by Vittorio De Sica earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first actor or actress to win an Oscar for a foreign-language performance. She holds the record for having earned six David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress: Two Women; Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow (1963); Marriage Italian Style (1964) (for which she was nominated for a second Oscar); Sunflower (1970); The Voyage (1974); and A Special Day (1977). After starting a family in the early 1970s, Loren chose to make rarer film appearances. Most recently, she has appeared in American films such as Grumpier Old Men (1995) and Nine (2009).

MERV GRIFFIN (1925 - 2007) was an American television show host and media mogul. He began his career as a radio and big band singer who went on to appear in film and on Broadway. From 1965 to 1986, Griffin hosted his own talk show, The Merv Griffin Show. He also created the internationally popular game shows Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune through his television production companies, Merv Griffin Enterprises and Merv Griffin Entertainment. In 1974, Griffin was inducted to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 1998, a Golden Palm Star on the Walk of Stars in Palm Springs was dedicated to him. In 2005, he accepted the degree Doctor of Laws (honoris causa) from the National University of Ireland, Galway, and in 2008, he was posthumously inducted into the Television Hall of Fame.

As this was shot 39 yrs ago this would make her almost 90 today. Sigh!

@@wandaloskot Yes, I live in Italy.....they usually have very strong accents or don't bother to learn. However, I live near Slovenia & they all speak American...they learn at an early age plus theSlavic language has both the Latin & Germanic so it is easier to learn English.
She has worked in hollywood since the fifties and lived a lot of time in the USA, so it's normal she speaks a good english.she has worked for it,like her french wich is excellent too.
The innuendoes of the presenter about cheating and resentment about Italy refer to the fact that in 1982 Sofia had been accused by the Italian State of tax evasion and spent 17 days in jail. That’s why she always lived in Geneva. Never wanted to pay her taxes in Italy.

Come on, can't you accept a joke? Sophia herself was not at all put off. I adored that interview. You talk about chauvinism. I answer back about feminism gone wrong. Most women like to be complimented. I am a feminist, every woman with a bit of sense should be but not those narrow minded ones like you who are doing more harm than good. You should spend you energy concentrating on how to help those women victims of male violence.

Merv had a way of putting himself in embarrassing situations. It was awkward watching his interviews & you were left not wanting to watch him interacting with other people. Not a charismatic person, comes off as uneducated
