Another Mazda Fan here! Thanks for this Vid. I had a Lime Green 808 4 speed Coupe-1974 in US. I have had 3 more Mazda's since this in 1978. The Lines are still great, 50 years later. The guy I sold it to, was hoping to transplant a rotary into it. Good Times! Run 2017 Mazda 6 currently. Nice Detailed explanation.

PLEASE give us a tour of the 808 behind you. Always loved those huge rear brake lights. Not sure if the 808 ever came with a 1.5. To my knowledge it was only ever a 1272 cc or a 1586 cc. These engines were also used in the 1300 and Capella respectively. Thanks for the video for us old skool Mazda fans!

Always loved the cooling fan and general look of the engine bay on the 808. Pure Japanese nostalgia when you could tell it was a JDM car just by opening the bonnet and seeing the big blue air filter box and white four blade fan. Thank you for posting this, such great cars.

That's interesting , because in Australia 10a and 12a codes refer to the rotary engine size eg 13b turbo .
All 808 were piston engine only and all RX3 , or any Mazda RX is rotary engine only . Great video mate 👍🇦🇺

Great video! I had a US 1976 808 4 speed manual trans. Mine had the same 1600 engine as the Ford Courier. There was also a 1300 version available.

I bought a Mazda 808 wagon new in 1976. $2995, year end closeout. 1300 cc, no catalytic converter
The 1600 had a catalytic converter. When my friend first saw it he thought it said BOB instead of 808. So it was always know as Mazda Bob.

The first car I own was a 1973 Mazda 808 earth green coupe with a 3-speed automatic gearbox, a 1586cc 4cylinders piston engine and a half vinyl top! Strangely, my car got the same 4 headlight front end like the RX3 not the 2 headlight like the one you describe, but the rear lights are exactly like the one you show on your 808. It's a Canadian version car.

    Nice overview. Thanks. Well done.
Where I’m from (USA), the majority (all?) of the center gauges were the rectangular type like the 808. The round gauges are crazy expensive like you said.
Here, the 808 is rare. I’m not sure I’d the sales volume was lower or if they were just scrapped more often since they aren’t as desirable.

    • @ElvisJuniorTeo
      @ElvisJuniorTeo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Factory the mazda 808 is the piston engined version car, they do not have an engine code of 10A or 12A,
the RX3 is the rotary engined version car either series one, 10A or series 2, 12A,
you can also fit a rotary engine into the 808

me thinks, re rx3 tail lights, at 6.00 mins the red coupe has the standard tail lights for series 1/10A and series 2/12A rx3
the teacup tail lights are from a series 1/10A savanna rx3
the hexagon tail lights are from a series 2/12A savanna rx3
there is also rx3 SP tail lights which are totally different again

Over in Europe the 808 doesn't exist ..... it is named a 818.
This is due to Peugeot having the rights tot a "0" in the middle of the 'names' : Peugeot 504 / 305 / 205 / 106 and so on.
    In Europe the Mazda's of that era (70's + 80's) were : Mazda 616 / 818 / 929
    My oncle has a RX3 10a and a 2door 818 12a coupe.
A friend of us races a 2door RX3 12a coupe in European historic races.
