this was the best time for riders and fans.
Love this video. Seeing the vehicles back in the 80s, the music and of course, the bikes. Thanks for sharing! Stumbled upon this from watching an early mountain bike race.
That first race I believe Bubba Shobert was on a CR500 and Ricky Graham was on an XR600. What a race. I wonder if these were factory warmed over bikes or if they were stock with gearing for 110 mph? I have both bikes, an 85 CR500 and an 87 XR600. The 500 is violently fast but the 600 is deceptively quick and has huge top speed power. Cool to see them racing each other with some of the best riders in the world.
Loved Lechiens riding style back in the day , he was a cool dude .
Rj's final revenge ..
So good to see these thanks Heather
Thansk Heather
Has anyone got anymore of these from this era with Jeff Stanton vs rick Johnson?😊
Met both Bayle & MxKied in person more than once... neither of these guys are close to 6'1 💯🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️😆
2 stroke noise 🎶
@5:13 THIS IS WHERE THE TERM "DUMP YOUR LUNCH" WAS BORN...
1998 in jr high ripping a Rm 125 was the best days of my life. Watched this fim every night....man I miss the 2stroke era
I appreciate dovetails. I appreciate Roy too. Thank you Roy. I'm sorry that your hands got so orange over the years. Did chemicals on the woods do that? Or the varnishes?
I really miss watching the 125cc nationals the challenge of keeping the engine tapped out speed shifting that was motocross
Go TZ750!!
The audience was having a good time laughing at these moments!
I remember seeing this race back in the day on American Sports Calvacade. Awesome to see WB #173 racing at Carlsbad.
I found out from one of the main players in this very race that Mark Allen actually shortened his career by two or three years because of this very race. Also, he didn't fully physically recover from it until just before the 1988 Ironman.
Grip was falling off 🤦🏻Then brag about Brian Lunis the mechanic.
I think that was best battle I can remember seeing between watd and Johnson
I went to the '83 race when Eddie won his first Superbikers race. I was in the Navy stationed is San Diego and made the trip up to Carlsbad to see one of the best races I had ever seen! I wish they had full HD quality DVD's of this race series for sale. I would love to see the 1979 and 1980 races.
Democrats in California effectively banned 2 strokes. Now they want to do same with internal combustion engines and force you to drive an unreliable dangerous EV that costs 30k for a replacement battery that lasts only 60k.
Lovely and definitely learned something
Suckin Eeemig!
Always loved this video. I was the one who talked my buddy (who grew up with Gregg Godfrey) into taking his 900cc Thundercat snowmobile down to the dunes at Little Sahara. He outright rejected the idea for a while, but I persisted and told him there was no way he WASN'T going to get in Gregg's new video. For once in my life, I was right. Great video.
21:48 thats me in the blue jacket behind RJ on the starting line. I hung out in the pits too i see myself in the background a few times. Always wondered what happened to the video from that day. Also Larry meirs interviewed RJ but didnt see that one
Thank you Heather for posting this! I was wondering how you obtained a copy of this video? I ask because I participated in the Mammoth Cycling Classic versions from 1989-1993 and hoped those videos might be available as well? I know there was similar coverage of those years. Do you have connections to the source or could upload?
In 1983, I didn't get to see it live at Daytona, but I did get to watch it live on TBS! I was and I'm still..., a huge Kenny Roberts fan! IMHO, Kenny was the greatest and most exciting motorcycle racer of all time! Yep, I'm an OG.
I can’t find the one that had Korn in the video
Finally a race from the 80's in quite good video quality. Very rare. Thanks for posting. Cheers 👍
Does anybody have MW 3??

These were the best days of racing. Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha, 2 strokes and hard packed tracks without ruts all over the shop.
KENNY ROBERTS ❤🎉🎉🎉 MY GO TO 2 STROKE RIDER!!!
These guys were so well spoken. Not like the riders nowadays 🤦🏼♂️
Crazy to see 6ft 7in, 17 yrolds on these.. now a days its 7 to 13 yr olds that are tiny as a baby that rip 80's
Tom cat clowers.. wow.. blast from the past.
I watched this race live
I think a big part of this is when it happened. The U.S. latched on to MX in the mid/late 70's, and easily accessible riding areas resulted in a large quantity of new riders in the U.S. So, instead of having one or two top guys, you get 5-10 great riders capable of winning a race. Unfortunately, those days are gone Not many places left in the U.S. where you can ride right down your street into cornfields, woods, hills, or desert and ride until you empty your tank with nobody bothering you. That environment in the late 70's-80's produced a lot of riders. People talk about growing the sport....I'm more about growing the available riding areas.
Bit too American for me this presentation.
Mike bell was over 6’3” not 6’1”.
ahhhh the good ol days... when style was everything and two strokes ruled the world.. miss my 92 YZ 250 and goin big !!! 🤙
I’m doing the 200 next year. Wish me luck!
Awesome video thanks for posting!
Best rider ever to never win a Supercross, unfortunately. Fan favorite. One of mine for sure!
The 1985 and 86 are the exact same race
This was my first supercross. I wanted to race after seeing this.
I was there that day !! What an amazing time it was ! I caught Rick Johnson goggles after the race ! Still have them !! What a keepsake and I still have the tee shirt I bought . Doesn’t fit anymore but still a cool memeory ! Can’t wait for august 10th 2024 going to this years unidilla race as well ! “ the other side sucks” 🏁🏁💯💯
I was in this race at 29 years old. The heat in the lava fields during the run made the race extremely difficult, and finishing was one of the highlights of my life. Thanks for posting the video and bring back so many memories.
Thanks Heather for the upload. Brings back great memories. New Hampshire here ✌
