    Skyride feels like the fantasy part of the dress series cut out and made its own thing. I like the main character there, I genuinely can't tell at times if he's only acting like a dunce or being a genuine one, maybe both.

    If they wanna compete with pokemon then they at least need to put money into advertising it to the west, in addition to making it affordable to enter. if they can do that, they will have a big fanbase i feel.

    Vanguard needs to be more accessible. One of Pokemons major advantages is that you can gobto major retail stores and buy cards. Hell even groceries stores have Pokemon. Its very easy to obtain.

  • @RiriTheGreat

    I do think this might effect Vanguard in Japan in the long run, but overseas... Yeah I don't see that happening. Mainly because the structure decks are going to be $20 over here according to some stores and magazine outside of Japan has been in a decline for a while now sadly. So it all comes to culture difference. What bushi is doing is great in Japan but outside of Japan? Vanguard is going to remain the same most likely (if not worse if the DivineZ gimmick acts like another way to add unneeded power creep into the game again).

    • @nmr7203
      @nmr7203 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Japan still likes thier physical media. Overseas, not only is physical media on the decline, the digital games you're going up against are things like Master Duel and Hearthstone. Vanguard surviving for as long as it has is a miracle.

    • @RiriTheGreat
      @RiriTheGreat ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@nmr7203 the fact that the only digital thing Vanguard has is a video game that's not only overpriced and outdated but also we don't know if they're going to keep supporting it up to DivineZ era or let alone the rest of overdress speaks volumes on how much Bushi cares about their overseas market... Does Bushi realize that the English market LOVES playing their TCGs digitally? And you're talking to someone who prefers playing TCG physically but that's the sad truth about the overseas market. If you're not the big 3 or a Bandai TCG don't expect to do well in the physical market in the west unless a miracle happened like with Flesh and Blood.

    Bushiroad is going to have to make a lot of changes if they want Vanguard to appeal to a broader audience, especially overseas. Product needs to be readily available in everyday stores like Walmart. They need to create an anime tailored to younger children. They need to do away with short prints and promos and the secondary market in the west needs to chill with the over inflated prices on pieces of shiny cardboard. I could go on but this is long enough

    I've heard the memes and sarcastic tones when people call Vanguard a "children's card game", but that didn't really set right with me - not because I don't want it to be a children's card game, but because it didn't feel like one when a bunch of guys in their 20s and 30s are all sitting around playing the game.
    Personally I look forward to a kid-friendly Vanguard. If that means the skills are going to be scaled back a bit, things won't get too complicated, and the cards will be more affordable, I'd say that's a fantastic formula. Some of the more Premium and competitively minded members of the community might resent that a bit, but I'm not here to play 7d chess and outsmart my opponent to the moon and back. I just want to use the skills I like on the pretty cards I like to look at and enjoy spending my hard earned money on something that means something to me and lets me share an experience with someone I probably wouldn't even talk to or associate with if it wasn't for this shared hobby of card games.
    I really hope a lot of this stuff can parlay over to the West, but you're probably not wrong. The outreach of the Japanese side is crazy. They have CoroCoro and we don't. They have the stronger card shop market and we have TCGPlayer or Cardmarket. Plus Vanguard's anime plays on TV in Japan. TH-cam has a wide reach, but you have to know about it to know about it. I've seen Pokemon TCG ads during all kinds of videos, but I barely see TV spots for Vanguard even on TH-cam. There's little if any advertising outside of Bushiroad's own properties. I'd love to see Vanguard grow in the West, but that takes stronger advertising and finding the new players where they are instead of having them come to Vanguard. I'm excited for the future of Vanguard, but realistically, I'm not going to get my hopes up.
    I'd love to see the game and community grow, but there is a chance that the established players could come off a gate-keepy a little bit especially if someone gets salty because a kids crit sacks or OTs them. They wouldn't even have to be mad at the kid either. They're just sensitive to the OT and scare the kid away from the game. I'd like to think we as a community could be better than that, but with a lot of the discourse I've seen over the years, I don't have very high hopes there either.
    All in all, Vanguard has a really bright future and I completely endorse this new approach for simplifying the game and targeting younger players. You're probably right though, Kris. It may not pick up quite like it will in Japan, but that's to be expected especially with how Bushiroad markets the game and anime. I'll do what I can to spread the word, and if even just one extra person joins Vanguard becasue of it, that'll at least be a start.

    As a middle schooler who is currently trying to get into vanguard the cost is definitely a barrier. One of the best ways to get into to tcgs is prebuilt decks, but I’ve been trying to find the chronojet stride deck for awhile because it’s one of the only meta relevant ones but on tcg player it’s like 100 dollars for the normal variant. On the other hand there are quick start decks that are cheap but aren’t very meta relevant. If a kid brings a bad deck to a tournament because it’s all they could afford that could frustrate them. These are just my thoughts.

    I say this as someone that's been playing TCGs most my life, and I'm 40. One thing I think you are a little off the mark, is even at your age, TCGs were still fairly popular for us kids, but with the digital age and technology improving as it has, the interest in physical product is diminishing. For instance, at my age, I remember a much greater social aspect where we didn't have phones (like the idea of someone under 20 owning a phone was surreal), but now kids are playing on ipads and phones as young as a year old. This isn't supposed to be a "back in my day" sorta deal, but rather that the marketing that's going to engage the next generation will probably be flashy digital products that cater to visual gratification. Like I grew up with a regular nintendo, would someone that was say, born at the ps3 minimum era going to even enjoy or want to play those games? Sure, but as an exception, not the rule. Most would rather stick with PS5 graphics and such, cus the games are just ultimately better than when we were dealing with 8 bit graphics and stories.
    This was kinda long, sorry. I just thought I'd point this out because I feel like yes, kids grow up to be functional adults (mostly) and will be loyal to the product, but the physical product is giving way to a more digital experience that younger kids will want more and more going forward.

      I agree but at the same time vanguard have shown that they have no clue how to make that shift, look at vg zero and dear days compared to duel links and master duel u can argue the comparison is unfair bc yugioh is way bigger but then that shows vanguard needs to become bigger b4 they shift digitally. Also it's funny u say that bc I'm pretty sure vanguard 3ds game exists and there's defo other handheld console games but only in Japan so they've made that shift long ago ig they didn't keep going because it wasn't profitable

      @Ravenleaf182 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lakkycharms bad timing on their part I think. I personally love dear days, but the price scared too many people off. I can't even blame them, for that price tag and such a shoddy translation job, its literally minimal effort with how they handle the english side. Heck, Kris thought messiah was "stealth launched" because dear days can't be bothered to post their news anywhere but their own site. I actually love games like this though where its full of all the cards and you unlock them in a story/campaign and stuff. If it was probably about 10 bucks cheaper for base, and maybe 20 dollars off the season pass prices, I bet they would've had close to double the sales

    I definitely heard of this type of marketing once before. I hate the example…but Rush Duels in Yugioh. From a players perspective, Rush Duel is easy for the Kids to come into the game and have fun in this format. (Too bad Adults ruined it by having more developed brains for combos.)
    Now since Vanguard is doing the same thing…..I have a feeling it is gonna be hard to do, especially since those who play Vanguard (currently) are the biggest investors, and kids might be scared away. The only way to make it the way they want to advertise this game is….put it in more wisely available areas and stores.
    I hope the English Side does the same thing to some extent….as…We had an 18 yr old playing Standard at my local shop and…He quit. Because the Game keeps getting more difficult for him to understand it…..especially in Premium. (Which is what we call the Best Format.) Maybe it is because the Adults are scary….Don’t know…Never wondered why.

    What if vanguard make pre-build decks for each boss unit, n sell them cheaper than what we would usually have to spend to build those decks, then control it so that, kids tournament is only permitted to use those pre-build deck set and, starter/trial decks, will that kinda lower the cost for kids, since i dont think kids will be that much into building decks, they mostly js wanna play right? Ig that ll also kinda helps cuz there wont js be that few rich kid with rly expensive decks that rekt everyone? Dk, im js rambling 4 fun, feel free to argue tho, i wanna see what u guy's look on this opinion :>

    imo bushi are punching way above their weight by trying to copy wot pokemon/yugioh do when cv n bushi itself isn't big enough to do what they do, vanguard is a late comer it doesn't have the whales yet to be releasing gacha n pc games which is why zero failed and the other game is 60 fucking pounds bushi needs to grow an audience that's comparable to pokemon n yugioh b4 they start making games like they do and I think this is the right direction and isnt big enough in Japan to make it mainstream in the west

  • @Shy3k
    @Shy3k ปีที่แล้ว

    This all sounds cool for Japan but it is at the cost of ruining the start deck product for English players, and likely a lot of upcoming products in the future as well. Start decks are super overpriced at about 20 USD each and are overcosted for young players and a rip off for anyone else. TCG kids in NA at least only get in through Pokemon, and they buy cards at big retailers like Walmart before going into card shops. Vanguard has no presence like that here. none of its players play it as their first tcg and at an age so young they need an entire deck with no skills to play. It doesn’t add up at all in NA at least. I really wish they did proper research on target audiences here and adjusted the start decks accordingly instead of porting over the same product and quadrupling the price. Kidani has said English sales are half of VG sales, yet they never cater toward English players well. This looks like it’ll be another example of that.

    I think people really overestimate things they liked when they were a kids appeal to kids. Even pokemon is wishes they had more kids buying their things but increasingly is just locking in an adult audience. Digimon for example will never again appeal to children and it be a fools errand to try and grab kids, Ghost Game didn't do well, Appimon didn't do great, every time they try and grab kids it's not great for them. I don't think Vanguard will manage to get kids at least not over seas, in Japan they might be able to grab an audience but they have to compete with Pokemon and Rush Duels and Duel Masters which are all coming out from companies with a ton of resources .
