    In this episode, I'm taking you 65 feet underground inside a multilevel abandoned new orleans civil defense bunker. You would never guess, but the bunker sits in the middle of a well-populated neighborhood that most people don't even know existed, although it's hidden in plain sight.
    The Office of civil defense built this shelter in the 1960s during the height of the cold war. It was made for hurricanes, nuclear attacks, or any other natural disasters. It was able to house 300 people, and its primary purpose was to be the headquarters for important city officials. Loaded with over 100 bunk beds,a fully functional kitchen, bathrooms, and backup generators that can last for months, this place was indeed the real deal.

    What an absolutely dangerous place. The city needs to shut it down permanently before someone gets hurt.

    Woah, one of the craziest explores I've ever seen. I couldn't imagine the amount of mold in that place. It's giving me some Resident Evil vibes.

    I have been to this place a bunch, but never went in. It was always sealed. But in 2006 I was working to clean up all the boats that floated out of the marina and the bunker was open. But water was all the way to the top. You could only go in 3 steps or so. I always wanted to get a huge trash pump and completely drain it. Looks like someone did it. Recently (2022) I worked on a team that removed a ton of old infostructure from charity hospital. I got a lot of cool footage from that. Just need to wait a bit before I upload it.

    I just wondered what made them build it below ground with it being below sea level? Did they not think it would flood during the hurricanes?

      Its a bomb shelter..... threat of nuclear war during the cold war. these were common in the 60's. you go deep underground to escape radiation. I wonder if we will start building these again.

    Great discovery. I'm curious how do you know it was last used in 1980's ? Where does the civil defense unit exist in New Orleans? Really liking all the history you can find.

    • @RangerRickTV
      @RangerRickTV  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can only find so much history on a place like this since it was considered a "secret". It could have been used for storage after the 80s but who knows because I know it flooded shortly after.

    Why would they even build a bunker or even a basement in New Orleans, the place is literally know for flooding and being under sea level, this would be the worst place to go during a hurricane. According to some of the old articles this was considered a bomb shelter, but still why wouldn’t they build it in higher ground so all the stuff they have in storage doesn’t end up flooded like it is now from even a small tropical storm.

      It was the civil Defense Headquarters. It was designed for the city officials in case of nuclear war or what not. Not much has changed. In case of disaster, the politicians have contingency plans to protect themselves, us peasants are screwed

      New orleans has one of the most complex and well designed drainage and pump infrastructure, it floods everytime it rains but it gets dealt with VERY quickly. New Orleans wouldn’t be able to operate with out it!

      Government here cant fix the roads or fix the crime. I saw a person living in a pot hole in the street once. like a cave in the middle of the road complete with bed mattress for sleeping. others use the pot holes as personal jacuzzies. and its the murder capitol of the country. not to mention if there ever is any money floating around all the city officials steal it. from city hall to the people at the water and sewer board stealing overtime pay not worked.

    Why is the male narrator of this video even THERE!! He is so whiny and complaining throughout, that I don’t think he’s into being an explorer at all. He seems so full of fear, that it is really distracting to watch the video. I much prefer the female explorer, who seems very brave, curious, and adventurous.
