Packing paintings & finding comfort in creative uncertainty

  • It's time to get comfortable with the uncomfortable when it comes to art making. We often get to this sweet spot in our practices where the work and things click and make sense. Which in return is such a magical feeling that I can't describe. Sometimes, taking risks in art is scary; for me, the only thing stopping me is time. I put so much emphasis on time in my process. How long is it going to take me to make this piece? Will the paint dry in time for me to start the next part? While these things are essential to consider, I started thinking this way about everything. I started to freak out in this video because I was afraid I wouldn't have an idea by the time I had to edit it. Toward the end, I started to breathe and accept that I might not figure out this idea for my next piece, and that's ok. It felt super uncomfortable to embrace this feeling, but I'm pleased things worked out in the end, and I learned a few new things along the way.

I found it insightful to watch you look through your different ideas in Photoshop. I often discard things I'm working on if I don't feel strongly about them after a short time, and watching that made me think "why am I doing that?" It's been helpful to see the creative process through your perspective. Thank you

That means a lot thank you!! I like to hoard everything I make (unless I really don’t like it) you never know if you’ll ever need it again!

Beautiful artwork as always! Do you have any advice for finding our own style in art?

Thank you so much! I think consistency is key in terms of finding your own style. I try to switch things up a bit here and there and ask myself questions as I’m making work to see what can change/ improve from the last piece I made! Also looking at artist you like and gaining inspo from them is super important as well. Hope this helps!!

@@Bitofbo Thank you very much for the advice, in fact being consistent is a challenge for me maybe I need to loosen up more and be more experimental without high expectations. But I will try to apply these tips into my creative process! Thanks 😁

Isn't it exciting to think about how you and I will both be professional artists when we get married.

i feel like we’re in a similar spot, i also just had a revelation about what my work is about, but i’m also having a hard time choosing a direction to go in that. and none of the ideas are better than the other, they’re just different
