    Big respect for your determination and optimism brother! Hope this week has been kind to you. I love Scotland in the rain too; as we say in my line of work, there's no such thing as bad weather, just bad prep! Was up coylumbridge on Monday and it was glorious.
    As others have said, I would be cautious hanging out in those dense spruce and larch plantations in storms, I've seen them fall and it's no joke, they just peel right up out of the ground, sometimes en masse. If you know how to identify root rot (Heterobasidion spc.) on spruce and pine and larch dieback it'll help you avoid the worst forests. It's unlikely you encounter treefall, but you only need to encounter it once when you're asleep to guarantee you never see it ever again! Anyway, I'm not trying to be all doom and gloom, keep loving living!

    I love the rain. I know it's a destroyer too - I mean farmers crops and flooded houses. But for me it's a joy. Good to see you getting deep down with it. A tarp in the wind and the rain? Interesting choice but plenty of cover. I'm confused - can you help? 454 days in nature. Do you mean you've been out there living in nature or is the amount of days you visit? All the best. Mark

    • @HappyHippy
      @HappyHippy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Ha not sure what else I'd cover my hammock with, pretty sure tarps the only go to thing.
      Yeah 456 days now living in nature, started in England an spending winter in Scotland.

    • @WyeExplorer
      @WyeExplorer 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@HappyHippy Ah, being a ground dweller I never really think about hammocks. So, living in nature? You mean 24 hours a day for 456 days? How do you do social media, edit videos, upload and even recharge your gear? How about washing? How do you wash? Wash your clothes? How on earth do you afford it? These are just some of the questions in my head. It's a reasonable expanse of time. Scotland? Nice!

    • @HappyHippy
      @HappyHippy  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @WyeExplorer yeah the ground is good got a little cheap lightweight bivvy for them nights, but love the hammock.
      I've got a video explaining everything called how I live out in nature in my hammock, I edited, upload everything on my phone on a free app, have a car so charging things when driving to new places, can use lochs or service stations along the way, have a summer job teaching kids bushcraft where the staff get to live in the companies woodlands for the season

    I think they stop wind farms in particularly heavy storms. Makes sense to have them fully braked rather than risk them being caught up in gusts.
    As a former professional gardener, I was hardy enough against wet and cold weather. As you get older, you tend to avoid it as your decreasing immune system makes you more prone to colds, flus and pneumonia. There's no escaping that. I knew a few people who slept outdoors or in unheated accommodation, all got pneumonia at some point, and you want to be indoors when you have that.

    We've had loads of damage here in Cumbernauld, the winds reached 80MPH. Glad to see you're at Tapoch Broch, it's great around there (just up the road from us). This is what the broch would have looked like: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broch
    You're brave trying to camp in the pines and in Torwood, everything is old and boggy with shallow roots!

    living life to its maximum ! Can i recommend reading the biography of john muir if you haven't heard of him already.Scotish man who pretty much lived like you are now and was so taken with the wilds of america that through his reputation and eventual fame, came to the attention of the president.John led the president on many wild camping trips and convinced him of the need for urgent conservation , and helped set up the american national park system.Great read and you would love it.

      I'm not putting my life on the line, I'm living my life. You take risks every day, living in a city your statically more likely to die from something than me!
      But don't worry I won't be calling for any help if I ever need it, I put myself in this life an I'll get through it with ease.
