I think the lyrics are more personal to Porter if you understand his backstory. In past years he was down in sort of a depression, and didn’t feel very motivated to create or push forward with production. Look at the sky, I’m still here, I’ll be alive... (look up and forward, stay motivated, you can get through this). I can make something good. (I can do this, I know that I can make a change, I can create, I can etc.). I just want time (I need time to breathe and change to get up and going). Suddenly, I’ve restored your faith in me (I’ve returned). This is my interpretation but either I know that all 4 singles have deep personal lyrics, and I’m guessing that’s why Porter sings them all.
I'd go even further with this, though I'm probably not the only one to have noticed (and I'm almost sure I've seen Porter talk about it somewhere). Looking at the lyrics in each single, it appears that Porter talks to himself, tries to push himself to do better when he actually was at his lowest point, right before looking up (in this particular single). I personally see Nurture as a way of self-caring, because it seems like Porter puts his own experience in it for others to enjoy, or benefit (for those experiencing the same situation he did). Considering that, the verse "I've restored your faith in me" is probably meant both for the audience and himself : "I've restored faith in myself, because now I'm sure I can STILL make something good" It's like differents parts you put together to make sense of it all. Can't wait to listen to the other 10 tracks he apparently made for Nurture ! Also, @Bowtied Media, great energy in this video, keep it up. Loved it !
no no no, you are wrong. You said it was his backstory. NO, it's OUR backstory and the lyrics are more personal to US, not only Porter. That's how lots of tears keep falling to this song and look at the sky
@@karthus1231 What we're saying is that he talks about his own experience and shares it through Nurture for others to benefit from, knowing that others struggle with the same things. It's not insulting anyone saying the lyrics feel personal and that it's his backstory too, simply because they are in the first place
My list 1.Get your wish , Something Comforting , Mirror , Look at the Sky 2. 3. 4. Each songs gave different feelings and make me feels certain emotion so I can not rank each one of these masterpiece lol
Go listen to the secret sky set you madman, you’re missing out of one the best sets ever. Not only Porter set, a lot of talented underground artists participated
I think I hit a busy season at work when what was released and just never went back for it. And like, I do a bit of DJing too, I really need to go watch it.
10/10 material from Porter although I won't put it above Mirror. That being said, I still love the song and I feel like it will grow on me. Here is my order: 1. Mirror 2. Look at the Sky 3. Get your Wish 4. Something Comforting
this is my favorite release of his out of the four singles so far! i actually teared up when i first heard it 1. look at the sky 2. mirror 3. something comforting 4. get your wish
The repeated chorus feels like two halves that tell different stories, the first half is more like convincing himself that he can do something good, the repeated half with beats feels like he's convincing the listener that he can, in fact, do something good. I don't know why he thinks we need convincing because I for one never lost my faith in him.
Why are the actual good songs with also good meanings unlike the other electronic songs. That sound good yet don't mean anything good. Are more well known that this? :(
Because simpler songs are easy to digest for the masses, and if you hit the mark with most of these: Catchy beat Repetitive beat Simple lyrics Sex lyrics Memorable melody Your song is bound to be popular. Porter, Tristam and Eden out here put a lot of complex and personal feelings and emotions. Only their niche fan base will truly enjoy their songs because they want to listen to feel, not brain-deadly listen to music
as a producer myself, id say its actually more about how hard it is to put meaning into songs, its not that they choose not to, it's that they aren't as good at it so they don't. porter is just very, VERY good at putting his emotions into songs, plus his production and writing is incredible, so that's why he's so good and popular. if you want more artists that put meaning in their songs i recommend madeon or jaron
Song changed my life and I'm a nihilistic asshole who doesn't like positive music. Perfect time during the covid pandemic. Dropped out and now I'm going to get back into making art and music.
Something about LATS and Mirror are way relatable for me. So i would rate them same hehe 1. Look at the sky // Mirror 2. Something Comforting 3. Get Your Wish
1. Look at the Sky 2. Mirror 3. Something Comforting 4. Get Your Wish All of these songs are phenomenal. It’s honestly quite difficult to list them out/rank ‘em.
My favorites in order Mirror Something comforting Look at the sky Get your wish You should should check out the PRXZM cover of something comforting, it’s the best remix/cover of it and is so beautiful
Ive been listening to the unreleased version for months and this is just the best, the base was amazing Porter just added the whipped cream and shiny cherry.
Okay, how actually have I not found your channel?!! This is a high qual reaction and I definitely have some suggestions if you are willing to take them.
Thank you so much! I just started the channel in like May 2020 so I’m pretty new! But send me all the suggestions! I love new listening to new music and hearing new stuff!
@@BowtiedMedia Well, if you say so. First Replay by Fairlane, Syence, and Kwesi, Vanic has two new remixes, and then yetep's EPs. I love Replay, and then I'd like to see your thoughts on yetep's EPs as well as Vanic's new stuff. Hope you like this stuff!
