    This is an older video, but (as Patrick Sturgill said), this is one of the best tutorials out there

    I love those dice in the opening. Dunno why. They’re just...comforting.

    This is the first time it makes sense, even after I've read the rule book section several times. Thanks for making this! 🙏

    A very good, succinct, and clear explanation of the Savage Worlds dice mechanics! I'm excited to see where you go from here!

    I just picked up the core book for Savage Worlds for ten dollars out of curiosity because of its claim to be a highly versatile system to accommodate any genre of adventure, and reading the book and trying to understand the core mechanics was making my brain twist when compared to what I'm used to.
    This video helped so much to explain this part of the system. Thank you so much! :)

    This is like the 11th Savage Worlds vid I watched and the first time I truly understood the dice concept and it all clicked. Thanks, man. Mucho appreciado.

    Thanks for the video! I explained it to my players last session and all was well, but then the next one they. . . forgot that the wild die can be used if it's higher. Once I saw someone's dice and reminded everyone, they got a lot more competent a lot quicker. This is going right in the discord.

    Since these videos in total (as of currently commenting) only takes around 15 minutes, I'm so glad I can take notes of these three episodes to explain in my own language (language barrier) all the details, in just around 15 to 20 minutes maximum :D
    Thank you for condensing these videos like this!

    • @HeroMuster
      @HeroMuster  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're welcome! I have also made it possible for people to add new translations to the video subtitles and I think many would appreciate that as well!

    • @MorriganJade
      @MorriganJade 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'll be sure to check that out as well. I've never translated TH-cam videos before, but I guess I'll be alright once I try.
      What happens if my specific translation has mistakes? Can anyone else overwrite the mistake with a fix?

    • @HeroMuster
      @HeroMuster  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe they can. I look at it like this: It's better to be near perfect than be empty. In other words, don't worry about the mistakes; it is better to have something than nothing.

    you can technically benny your way out of critical failures unless you use a setting rule that prevents you from doing so. plus, critical failures aren't meant to be on the scope of d20 fumbles. there might be a setback that can be countered by spending an action or there might be success with a complication in some cases. but it isn't like "your sword flies out of your hand and impales your wizard companion" or similar ridiculous things. the result of the failure is sensible for the setting.

    • @tukkerintensity5575
      @tukkerintensity5575 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is no indication in the manual that says that critical fails "aren't mean to be on the scope of d20 fumbles." And some examples in the book seem to indicate they are on the scale of D20 fumbles i.e. Psionic Critical Fail - "On a critical failure, the psi lets out a psychic scream that causes him to be Shaken along with all allies in a Large Burst Template who fail a Spirit roll. This can cause a wound." The rule only states "The GM gets to make up something rotten to happen to your character. That’s the price Fate charges for making someone a hero."

    1:43 how is that 25? If it's a trait roll it's 20 (8+8+4), and if it's damage it's 24

    • @HeroMuster
      @HeroMuster  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      TOTAL: 20. Yeah you're 100% correct that's a typo (Being my first SW video I wasn't labeling my source images as well as I did later on).

    So bennies are used like fate points or heroic points or whatever else you wanna call them. Basically something to get you out of sticky situations

    2:35 - is there a reason why it would be a -2 penalty? or is -2 just a fixed number that you always use?
    Also, does it apply only for a d4 roll?

  • @wampaisen

    its funny, i played an entire campaign (albeit using a vtt) and only learned how the dice rolls worked just now lol

    Shouldn't you be able to have a 1d2? Flip a coin; heads = 2, tails = 1?

  • @ostrichking6
    @ostrichking6 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think I know the answer, but I want to make sure. Do you ever roll the attribute score, or is it always a d4 if you lack an appropriate skill?

    • @HeroMuster
      @HeroMuster  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You roll the attribute die only when you have that skill (or a challenge that is vs an attribute rather than a skill), and if you lack that particular skill, you roll a d4 (and the wild die) with a -2.

    th-cam.com/video/NF85Qjsywdw/w-d-xo.html New to Savage Worlds, so here's the question. As I understand it, the rule is a raise for every 4 over the target number. The target number never changes, it is the roll that gets modified, so in the example here, the assumption is there are no modifiers on the roll. In this instance, if there had been a -2 on the roll, the first 8 would still ace, the second 8 would ace, and the 4 would end the explosion and the result would only be 18 ((8+8+4) - 2) so three raises not 4. Does that sound right?

  • @phillee427
    @phillee427 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    So whats a raise and what does it do? You said we can roll them but not what it means.

    • @HeroMuster
      @HeroMuster  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's because it is based on what you are rolling for. This tutorial was understanding the rolls themselves. See the second video for an example of what a raise can do. th-cam.com/video/T4FSKzhMD24/w-d-xo.html
