  • How to Stick Magnetic Signs to Aluminium Cars and Trucks
Lots of cars and trucks are made out of Aluminium these days. It's a fantastic material because it's light weight for it's strength making it popular amongst high end manufacturers such as Audi and BMW. However, if you need to stick a temporary magnetic sign to your car or truck, for example as a taxi/cab might or in a sales showroom or your DOT number, you will not be able to if the car body panels are made of Aluminium.
We have the solution: Gripper Mats™. Our wonderfully versatile product can stick to virtually anything smooth, clean and dry and they never run out of stickiness. After each use, just give them a quick wash under water and allow them to air dry.
Simply put a few Gripper Mats™ on the back of the non-permanent magnetic sign and then press firmly onto the vehicle body panel. They can be cut to any shape using a pair of scissors if necessary. When you want to remove the sign simply peel it away from the vehicle slowly. The Gripper Mats™ will leave no marks and cause no damage whatsoever and can be stored in their packaging after a quick clean so they're ready for the next use.
Gripper Mats™ are incredibly strong and have been tested in freezing conditions and up to 70 MPH with outstanding results as seen in this video.
Please feel free to get in touch with any enquiries or simply order your Gripper Mats™.

Would this work for a magnetic light (on top of a vehicle) like a mailman would use? Would the wind be too much for it?

We don’t think that it would work unfortunately as there isn’t enough contact with the Gripper Mats vs the wind.

Hi, yes I have, definitely works, does not come off , even over 70 mph. However when peeling of car , needs a little force takes a little time, not something you would do every day. Definitely works to my surprise.

Can I put a regular non magnetic bumper sticker on it since it seems it would be much easier to remove then putting the sticker directly on the car?

Yes, we think that would work although it hasn’t been tested.

Can this be taken off and on as much as I would like and continue to stick?

    • @properdesignltd

Yes, they do not lose stickiness as they do not work with adhesive. However, each time you take them off you need to give them a quick wash under running water and allow them to air dry in order to refresh the stickiness. You can do this time after time and they are just as good as when new. Many thanks for your enquiry.

Do u rinse them while they are stuck to magnet? Or do you remove to rinse both sides then reapply to magnet? Seems a lot to do if u have to remove every day

Eventually the wind will catch underneath since it's not flush to the car.

That’s not the case if the mats are properly laid out and looked after. It’s hard to explain but the sign is actually pressed onto the vehicle due to the way the air moves down the vehicle. It’s due to low and high pressures like with an aeroplane wing.
Saying that, if the mats are not properly laid out and cared for, the adhesive properties will be weakened and the sign may peel up. Follow the instructions carefully and contact us for advice if required. Many thanks.
