That's why I think that Skar was a great villain. He wasn't that strong compared to Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla, so he used his cruelty and brain to be a bigger threat, forcing others to do his job. He was pure evil, he enjoyed hurting and killing others, he even had an harem and was happy to hurt his own children (Suko is one of them, since all Skar babies had red fur). A true monster. Sometimes, a villain is better when he's evil and smart, not just another big powerful monster. He was different and this made him stand out compared to most Godzilla and Kong villains.

More than that, the novelization states that Kong is less like an Ape and more like a Proto-human. He looks like a gorilla , but he prefers walking on his legs rather than all fours and he has a much greater intellect as shown by making traps and leading enemies into them. He can think in words, he knows his name and can even speak his name in his own language. Godzilla’s energy changed to pink because he absorbed/ate and evolved from Tiamat (the sea serpent he fought). Probably also due to the extra energy in the area that Tiamat was there to absorb in the first place.
This is the same Mothra from Godzilla King of the Monsters. She has been reborn again like her previous incarnation from the old Japanese Godzilla moviee.
Yeah they should have done a better job illustrating that, maybe the Titan Truth podcast dude could have mentioned that Mothra died fighting Ghidorah or something like that.
@@rithvikmuthyalapati9754 They did show she laid an egg at the end of KotM, just no real explanation for how she got here from said egg. I actually didn't mind that Skar King was comparatively smaller than prior villains such as Ghidorah or Mechagodzilla, considering all other Monsterverse Titan villains have a very large, physically intimidating, I-can-easily-overpower-Godzilla-and/or-Kong kind of presence, whereas, what Skar King lacks in physical size (relatively speaking that is since he is still ridiculously massive to us), he well compensates for with his more acrobatic fighting style, a stark contrast to Godzilla and Kong's more brawler methods, his cruelty, cunning, and malice on full display still makes him feel threatening and unnerving, plus, he has an army of Great Apes and a Titan of climate-changing power in Shimo, something that both compensates his less bulky stature, and sets him apart from the other villains who mainly operated as solos or duos. And the fact that he was able to capture and enslave a Titan as powerful as Shimo for such a long time probably speaks volumes for his intelligence, not to mention the fact that the first time he went to war with Godzilla, he nearly killed him, that's no small feat
Honestly, I'm liking that Monsterverse almost feels like Gennedy's Primal where there's more and more focus on the monsters, and that we don't need dialog to understand what they're thinking and feeling. their actions and facial expressions are enough. Primal told an entire story with almost no dialog, and Monsterverse is accomplishing this too with the scene of Kong finding the other apes and we see how cruel and abusive Skar King is. that scene had no dialog, but we fully understood what was happening. If Monsterverse went full Primal and we barely had any humans in it, I wouldn't mind at all. keep humans around for sense of scale to remind us how big the monsters are, and to have their help, but other than that, the monsters can really carry these movies on their own. But, this is all just my opinion.
16:52 It's explained in the novel that Jia was the only one who could awaken Mothra because only she could sense Mothra's song (a kind of subsonic frequency). This is because growing up deaf on Skull Island caused her to develop an ability to detect subtle vibrations that even regular Iwi can't pick up. Whenever Mothra's physical body dies her consciousness transfers to an egg. She is then reborn with her memories and personality fully intact
Mountain gorillas are full herbivores. Lowland gorillas ocassionaly can have insects in their diet but is rare. They prefer fruit. We humans are closer to the chimpanzees: we are both omnivourus. But they tend towards fruits and vegetables over meat while we evolved to hunt (a consequence of leaving the forests and going full bipedal)
The reason why Scar King is red and smaller is because he’s based off Orangoutangs. That’s why his arms are so lanky. And I disagree with y’all’s assessment. This just as good as any other of the others cause it added more to the lore of these movies.
He is based on them, but he's also the same species. Been confirmed that he essentially permanently dyed his hair which altered his genes and passes on to Suko and the others. Him being lanky is likely just a mutation
@@predatron4197 The red marks and handprints are his paint, but he dyed his fur which passes to his kids. Not regular dye like rubbing berries or something into the fur, altered his genes.
4:30 "They're just giving us what we want." Seafood! I gotta give Godzilla some credit in this one. He knocks over some bridges but he tries to use the waterways as his path when he can. He's usually only knocking over lots of buildings when he's actually in a fight. 10:13 You're me in the middle of the night, except I don't have a hot cheerleader. :D Mosquitos suck. Pun intended. Regarding Mothra, I'm guessing the whatever that tribe is called brings back Mothra from eggs they help protect or something. Oh, it sounds like someone below commented with more knowledge and I guess it is something like that.
Speaking of Planet of the Apes, I eagerly hope you guys will watch the original from 1968, and also the sequels. Especially with the new movie (Kingdom) getting closer to that aesthetic and even having some homages to the original.
The first thing that popped in my head when I saw the frost Godzilla was 'How To Train Your Dragon', and seeing the little Kong made me believe that there might be a baby Godzilla in the future as well, henceforth setting up 'The New Empire'
So, fun fact of the day: Gorillas can be categorized as facultative Herbivores (In fact, 99% of all herbivore species can be categorized this way). Given the next two closest living relatives (Chimpanzees and Humans) are full Omnivores, this would track evolutionarly speaking. What does facultative mean? Well, I've never heard it properly defined (On a scientific level, at least) but the best description I've heard is as follows: You primarily eat on one side of the Dietary spectrum (Being primarily Carnivore or herbivore) but are capable of stealing meals from the other-side's plate if necessary. That's how you get Cows eating Snakes like Spaghetti, Gorillas eating ants, and Deer eating Birds like popcorn chicken. As for Kong, it makes sense that the Great Ape Titans developed a more carnivorous diet since most plant life wouldn't be able to sustain such a large creature. EDIT: I am actually in agreement with your rating. None of the movies are what you would call "Bad" just varing degrees of good. King of the Monsters is my favorite, tho I'd have 2014 as my second place. GvK and GxK would occupy the next slot together, as I kinda have the same thoughts for both films. Fun, but not much else there. Kong: Skull Island is only last on my list because someone has to be. I enjoyed the film, think its good, but i enjoyed the other films more.
I love the natural progression of the bond between Kong and Suko. Even with that "I'll beat a motherfucker with another motherfucker" moment. And the fact that Jia was prophesized as a hero who can rouse Mothra from her slumber is amazing, same with her meeting other members of her tribe. Also, I not only love the "Aw, shut up" punch on the ape annoyingly running his mouth a few seconds before Kong met Skar King, but the part where Kong lobs a rock and creams the one ape in the head. Fun fact: Dan Stevens also played The Beast in the remake of Beauty And The Beast.
With a worldwide gross of roughly $558 million, this is the highest grossing entry in the Monsterverse. I also recommend watching the Skull Island animated series and the Monarch live action series. The titans Godzilla fights before Shimo and Scar King are Scylla and Tiamat, who he previously fought in one of the comics
This particular version of Mothra retains all her memories. I call it "practical immortality" as long as she lays an egg, she can't die. It's another body for herself, she's like a phoenix. Granted, her manifestation is a bit of a retcon, but she's always been a spiritual being. So i don't mind her being brought back through a spiritual method, it's epic to have the Queen back🙏🏼👑.
Pretty cool that he's always been referred to as just "Kong" in these movies so far but now he has found his people and is their leader he has become King Kong. Also Godzilla always has to start cheating with the atomic breath when he gets washed lol That's why Kong will always be #1 in my heart. Great video as always.
I loved this movie so much and surprisingly I loved the four core human characters in this one. So can't wait for the sixth MonsterVerse movie that was announced.
I've been waiting for this! Glad to see it! I also hope yall get to watch Godzilla Minus One soon! Although, Shin Godzilla or the original 54 Gojira are great alternatives while you wait for Minus One to make it stateside.
It's very interesting that the Hollow Earth Tribe are called Iwi. Here in New Zealand, the indigenous people call themselves Iwi which means People or Nation. It got translated into tribe in English. When Captain Cook landed in New Zealand he called them a tribe. Eventually, Iwi became Kiwi which is what New Zealanders call themselves.
The fact that godzillas pink form being inspired by kaioken is just so cool. When they were analyzing him when he came out of the ice it said his power capacity has increased by 20x. Gokus kaioken max. I was like 🫵🫵🫵
We get more of Kong because there is more story to him than Godzilla. I mean Godzilla really just sleeps and only wakes up if there’s a threat he has to take care of. He doesn’t mind being the last of his kind and just sleeps away. Kong on the other Hand has more of a Story since he was looking for more of his kind, we see he has more emotions and can communicate with humans. More story to build on there than a big angry baby. I like both Titans and I’m glad we get to see both. Some action on both sides.
Just a clear things up about the color, pink or magenta. The reason is because Tiamats lair is located in the Arctic Ocean which sits upon the planet's largest deposit of natural radiation. Currently now Adam Wingard is not going to direct the next movie sadly. Because he’ll have his hands full on his passion project called onslaught. So the next movie director is yet to be announced . People think that Garrett Edwards will return or should return, but I’m gonna clear things Now, Edwards it’s gonna be busy directing the next Jurassic World movie. What we do know is that Dave Callaham who is the story writer of Godzilla 2014.
I think having most of this movie set in the Hollow Earth meant that the sense of scale was lost a bit. Sometimes I forget that they're 100's of feet tall. Even Suko is taller than Kong was in Skull Island.
That and the fact that they don't MOVE like they're big. You don't feel the weight of these massive creatures when they're moving around like the mocap artist just drank a triple espresso.
As much as I love Godzilla: Minus One, I believe that one of the negative outcomes of the film was the emergence of uptight 'fans' who think that the films should be serious all the time, disregarding the fact that many of them were simply meant to be enjoyed. Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire falls into this category. Although Godzilla can be seen as an allegory for the atomic bomb, he can also be viewed as a superhero, a villain, an anti-hero, a reincarnation of spirits, a protector of Earth, Earth itself, or an evolutionary process. this guy has more character roles than an actor in a Shakespeare play! Have some fun, folks.
You also have a severely misunderstanding of the criticism, while yes there are people who believe godzilla should only be serious, most of the comparissions are about the human characters working better than the ones in the MV and the story being solid, the problem with the MV movies is the characters are mostly forgettable and the stories retcon themselvs each movie, it lacks detail in story aspects fanboys can yell about humans not being the focus and i would agree if the humans were not part of 50% of the film, thankfully each movie we go more to the full monster experience but at the meantime directors should inverst also on the humans. You can have a goofy movie with over the top action and still having a good story like guardians of the galaxy but the monsterverse is filled with humans commiting dumb desitions for the plot, leaps of logic that don't have introduction so we can't adjust it to the universe like the wifi energy who many people found really weird and for a second or awakening the titans in kotm, the size inconsistencies, etc I enjoy the MV vwey much but srill i would be lying if i didn't saw problems.
@@spinosaurusstriker - Hey, thanks for proving my point, my man. At least I have an open mind to acknowledge flaws yet appreciate what both Godzilla: Minus One and Godzilla X Kong: TNE for what they are: Great, but vastly different films. Sorry if some of you don’t have that ability. 🤷♂️
My problem is that it shouldn't take a serious movie to have great human characters and if you ask me I think gxk did very well with the characters and I very much enjoyed them. You are indeed right that more of the uptight godzilla fans have been unbelievably glazing minus one to inhuman degrees, don't get wrong i can go on and on about minus one but its like godzilla fans completely forgot showa era existed when they bring up the goofiness in the MV. If I had to blame anyone it would be doctor skipper and his video about saying how godzilla doesn't work in America because a lot of people called him out on it other fans took this as an open invitation to be more vocal on their disappointment in the MV. but what do I know im just a guy on the internet who likes big monke and lizard fighting
I would say it's a very small minority of fans. I would even argue it's probably from people who only just started watching Godzilla from 2014 and onward.
The end fight was a lot of fun but overall I didn't care for this movie. The main villain monster didn't really feel like a threat. Godzilla could have easily soloed angry monkey!
23:20 Then you missed a detail in King of The Monsters during the end credits, theres a blink it you'll miss it moment that explains "Mothra egg discovered" ❤👍
@@vladyvhv9579 sounds reasonable. They also stated that they had plans to build a mechanized titan on Skull Island. Either way, Im sure it would have been a bad ass addition.
My guess as to why France attacked Godzilla with those drones is that they were trying to shoo him away. When you think about it, it doesn't look very good for France if they were to just let Godzilla show up and take out a nuclear power plant unopposed. What with the radiation being spread over the surrounding countryside and all. Also, regarding Mothra, it's the same Mothra from KOTM literally brought back from the dead by Jia because it was prophesied that an Iwi from Skull Island would bring their God back to them. Side note: It's strange that they went about bringing Mothra back in this way because in the credits of KOTM, they implied that Monarch found an egg up on the surface, so now we have two Mothras.
If you really think about it, the Monsterverse can introduce hundreds if not thousands of them like Godzilla vs. Spacegodzilla. All the Mothra’s came from space and killed Spacegodzilla.
Agree with Jen about Skar King, but still enjoyed this movie very much. This movie is still in theaters and about to become the highest grossing Monsterverse film both domestic and worldwide.
I can't recall a mention of it directly, but there was that guy who had a roughly humanoid mech that he used to fight Kong. Probably salvaged that and redid the designs as armor attachments
Yeah likely mutation that makes him leaner and lankier. Probably bulled for it as well which made him hyper aggressive and cruel when he got even a little power.
I’m so glad to finally see you guys watch this amazing movie, I know you guys are waiting for minus one but I would also really recommend shin Godzilla a very different take on Godzilla but super great movie! Also any word on Jackie Chan movies?
I took my teenage sons and friends to see this and they all loved it. Perfect fun summer movie. GREAT in the theater. I liked the human element of this one better than the previous two. Can't really touch King Ghidora though.
Even outside of actively needing it. Well documented that they will not pass up super easy calories by eating bugs, small birds, slower animals like frogs etc.
It was a pleasure to watch your reaction to this movie after seeing your reaction to the trailers Holden and Jen 🦍🐊🦋 I hope your reaction a Kung fu panda of 4 is next !!! 🐼
So the humans technology is always a little fantastical in Godzilla movies, they have lightning guns and mind control technology as well as multiple attempts at mechas, Godzilla and not lol
I’ve commented this in a separate reaction video but I’ll elaborate it here. I love how it seems like Godzilla actively doesn't want to be here. He spends the whole movie getting stronger so he can end the fight as soon as possible and go back to bed. He HATES Kong and all the wacky adventures he goes on, and is guilt-tripped by Mothra into helping him. He's an unwilling participant in his own movie and its kinda hilarious That look he gives Kong at the end after Kong smirks at him is, “If it wasn’t for Mothra, I’d have left you for dead with a smile on my face. I had to beat on 3 women today (Scylla, Tiamat, Shimu), and being associated with you has been my lowest moment”
I go to these movies for pure fun and that’s what I get. There are other movies I go to for thought provoking but I’ve loved Godzilla since I was a child. I will always go see these. King of the Monsters is still the top spot for me also as far as this universe is concerned but Minus One is on a whole other level.

My comment made it in that's awesome!!! I've been excited for you to watch this, I saw it twice in theaters and loved it.
I love how the editor shows Holden saying Jen is asking too many questions, then proceeds to show Holden asking about Mothra dying last time lol.
3:53 It's the same creature that eats a spider in Godzilla vs. Kong when Kong goes up the mountain.
My only question is how Mothra was instantly summoned within Hollow Earth. Where was her egg by the end of KotM?
19:41 - It was great in theaters, especially in IMAX. Sorry that you missed out, man.
Yes! Twice in IMAX and once on a regular screen.
Nothing beats IMAX.
I really hope you guys watch Godzilla Minus one
Seconded
They already did in theaters, I think.
@@aidenbell3487 oh, i didn’t know that, did they say it in the video?
I found the human story in this one much better than the other ones, cept for Minus One of course..
He is based on them, but he's also the same species. Been confirmed that he essentially permanently dyed his hair which altered his genes and passes on to Suko and the others. Him being lanky is likely just a mutation
Scar King is definitely red in color. Look at the baby apes, they’re all orange meaning he’s the father of all the babies. Red and brown make orange
The designer said he just painted himself and the kids red to mark his territory.
@@predatron4197 The red marks and handprints are his paint, but he dyed his fur which passes to his kids. Not regular dye like rubbing berries or something into the fur, altered his genes.
Nothings better than when women ask questions about a movie knowing dang well it’s your first time seeing the movie as well
4:30 "They're just giving us what we want." Seafood!
The new form of Godzilla is said to be inspired by the Kaioken.
Always thought of Goku when watching the movie
I believe it, I called the new form Godzilla Rose!
THE NEW EMPIRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
fun fact sum kongs idk if all but kong and skar king both have an ability that has something to do with eating the other titans
"King of the Monsters' is IMHO the best monsterverse movie. It literally had everything that made a classic Godzilla movie cool.
Jen- "What does it mean if he is super charged?"
Us- "Super Saiyan Godzilla...."
When Holden said “we got one more COMMENT OF THE DAY FOR YA” I got Captain Barbosa vibes
Kong ends up becoming Kratos with his beard and ax, and now has his own Atreus to say "BOY!" too.
So, fun fact of the day:
Gorillas can be categorized as facultative Herbivores (In fact, 99% of all herbivore species can be categorized this way).
Given the next two closest living relatives (Chimpanzees and Humans) are full Omnivores, this would track evolutionarly speaking.
What does facultative mean? Well, I've never heard it properly defined (On a scientific level, at least) but the best description I've heard is as follows:
You primarily eat on one side of the Dietary spectrum (Being primarily Carnivore or herbivore) but are capable of stealing meals from the other-side's plate if necessary.
Godzilla and Kong is a dream team i never thought I wanted to have and this movie did not disappoint
Godzilla right after he got his bearings and realized Kong was dragging him - "I hope you bulletproof for this bout to hurt."
I freaking love this movie. The MonsterVerse is so good. I hope it continues.
Same here!!!! team Godzilla all the way!!!!!
By my calculations around 2 million people died in Rio there
Just wait till you guys get to watch Godzilla minus one…one of the best movies I’ve seen in many years
With a worldwide gross of roughly $558 million, this is the highest grossing entry in the Monsterverse.
Shin gozilla is still the best. Minus one is great but the plot focuses more on the characters and less on the monster.
I was like 🫵🫵🫵
10:53 the Drownviper was so awesome and yet they killed it. What a shame. 😭😭❤
16:35 Jen: He can't fly!
Me: 👀😶👀😶
We get more of Kong because there is more story to him than Godzilla.
Next movie i wanna see more of godzilla 😂
Wife: he can't fly
me: are you sure about that?
this probably my favorite one just all around good movie and i love the idea of new titans in the team
14:37 as long mothra lays a egg before she dies she can be reborn, egg is like save game for her
I've said this before but 5he movie just flies by. It feels very short despite being about two hours long. The novel gives more details.
@@DMFX1 I agree, I think that’s one thing Godzilla 2014 did well. I just couldn’t imagine seeing that Godzilla running and jumping
You can have a goofy movie with over the top action and still having a good story like guardians of the galaxy but the monsterverse is filled with humans commiting dumb desitions for the plot, leaps of logic that don't have introduction so we can't adjust it to the universe like the wifi energy who many people found really weird and for a second or awakening the titans in kotm, the size inconsistencies, etc
I enjoy the MV vwey much but srill i would be lying if i didn't saw problems.
@@CBright7831 i don't think you understood what i said.
Fun fact: Suko , the small orange ape, is actually the same size that Kong was in Skull Island.
You should've just seen this in theaters. Don't make everything part of your job. Great movie. Lots of heart. Saw it three times in the cinema.
It’s cool that both Korvo and Terry Opposite have both got to hang out with Godzilla
This new Godzilla is now 20x more powerful than when he was on fire in King of The Monsters. This new Godzilla is on a different level now
Now, watch Ghostbusters series. It's totally worth it 👌.
if it makes you feel better Holden, Wingard is NOT coming back for the sequel...
But then... how did they know if it was in a secret area of hollow earth? 😂
@@DMFX1 they're just guessing
The prototype was supposed to be a mechanized Kong, but their project was halted. So they used part of the armor to give Kong the B.E.A.S.T Glove.
More accurately, the project was supposed to likely be a full Iron Man suit for Kong, but only the glove made it to the prototype phase.
@@vladyvhv9579 sounds reasonable. They also stated that they had plans to build a mechanized titan on Skull Island. Either way, Im sure it would have been a bad ass addition.
That is actually an improvement for Brazil, considering how bad crime and corrpution is there.
Hard damn facts!!!
16:50 something to do with how she's from the Skull Island tribe while the others aren't
Fun Fact : Godzilla sleeps in the Coliseum because it reminds him of home.
If I remember correctly kongs power glove might be from the monster verse comics
I can't recall a mention of it directly, but there was that guy who had a roughly humanoid mech that he used to fight Kong. Probably salvaged that and redid the designs as armor attachments
Godzilla Minus One is now finally on Netflix in America.
Look forward to your reactions to it as I enjoyed all the other Godzilla videos
Scar king isnt just painted red, hes based off the orangutan. Hes just really slim
Yeah likely mutation that makes him leaner and lankier. Probably bulled for it as well which made him hyper aggressive and cruel when he got even a little power.
6.5 is more than enough for a movie like this. Very serviceable.
Great reactions!! Have y’all thought ever about watching monarch? I think y’all would really enjoy it and it features more Godzilla
If you guys think this film is good, you should DEFINITELY check out Godzilla Minus One! It just came out on streaming platforms yesterday!!!
Does anyone with a Patreon membership know if they reacted to X-Men '97?
I’m so glad to finally see you guys watch this amazing movie, I know you guys are waiting for minus one but I would also really recommend shin Godzilla a very different take on Godzilla but super great movie! Also any word on Jackie Chan movies?
I took my teenage sons and friends to see this and they all loved it. Perfect fun summer movie. GREAT in the theater. I liked the human element of this one better than the previous two. Can't really touch King Ghidora though.
@Holden & Jen Hardman i did not see it cause our movie building shut down and move to another town :(
You too definitely need to check out Monarch, it still has the monsters. They’re just not as prominent, but the story is great
Some of the characters are absolutely awful, but the ones done well are just SO damn good
Even herbivores eat meat when they need certain vitamins, squirrels, deer, rabbits... have all been filmed eating meat. Humans are omnivores!
The showdown was awesome and badass
To the Editor : yeah, Mothra dies a lot. But she lays eggs each time so it's all good :D
He's an unwilling participant in his own movie and its kinda hilarious
That look he gives Kong at the end after Kong smirks at him is, “If it wasn’t for Mothra, I’d have left you for dead with a smile on my face. I had to beat on 3 women today (Scylla, Tiamat, Shimu), and being associated with you has been my lowest moment”
The music choice was very interesting. Felt like a buddy cop movie sometimes
Loved your guys reaction ❤
I go to these movies for pure fun and that’s what I get. There are other movies I go to for thought provoking but I’ve loved Godzilla since I was a child. I will always go see these. King of the Monsters is still the top spot for me also as far as this universe is concerned but Minus One is on a whole other level.
Fun Fact!
As of GxK, Kong has fought more serpents over his filmography than dinosaurs/dinosaur-like monsters. For the tally…
DINOSAURS
. Meat Eater (1933)
. Godzilla (1962/2021)
. Gorosaurus (1967)
. V-Rex (2005)
SERPENTS
. Elasmosaurus (1933)
. Giant Sea Serpent (1967)
. Giant Boa (1976)
. Warbat (2021)
. Drownviper (2024)
I'd be lying if I said this movie had good writing. Especially after Minus One just came out. But DAMN this was fun!
Waiting to see if you both will watch Shin Godzilla.
Definitely check out Godzilla Minus One if you want that good human element. My favorite Godzilla film by a longshot.
Mothra is immortal and they are adapting Gia to be the twin sisters who can communicate with mothra
