Personally, I sense a profound sadness conveyed as she narrates his woeful story with moving emotion, albeit in an upper-class, conservative style-some might call it stilted. The acting was consistently superb. After watching the series multiple times, my fascination with Sebastian grew, leading to the realization of my own homosexuality.

Poor Sebastian. Sebastian contra mundum. Sebastian no more. Sebastian has succumbed forlornly. Sebastian is no longer contra mundum 🎭🎁♥️

Alcoholism is a genetic disorder: both ghastly and tragic with no simple treatment.

The cluelessness of this family about their part in his fate is staggering.

Well, a dysfunctional family doesn't understand it is dysfunctional. If a member does cop on to that, it may have been a long time, even decades, since the horse bolted.

Indeed. All the Flyte children have a f*cked up psychology, but because of society's values only Sebastian's dipsomania is criticised.
Bridey has zero tact or genuine emotions, acting almost as a sociopath, failing to understand basic human emotions. Julia is wrecked by catholic guilt which makes her judge others unfairly because she denies herself happiness and Cordelia is so lost in her religion she struggles to build a personality of her own.

"However little we did for Sebastian he always got his money." What a sad line. "Wouldn't happen with their people they said. And I daresay they're right."
