Thanks for sharing with us Steven, Sifu Burton. And a special round of thanks is due to your students who make these demonstrations possible. All the best to them. Keep practice and preserve this martial heritage.

I never ever see anyone in fight arts striking with the back of their hand in sparring or a real fight. I presume it is less effective than a punch.

Only striking with punches restricts the ability to access points correctly.
Wrist strikes for certain points . Eg striking Liver 14 in Five Thunder Dim Mak is far more effective than a punch. . If you watch some of my other clips you will see examples of this.
Hung Gar, which is another art that I practice mainly uses the Forearm known as Kiu Sau to strike and actually doesn’t use punches that often. Kiu Sau can be far more powerful than a punch when used correctly.
Five Thunder Dom Mak teaches to use the nearest body weapon to the nearest target and so you do not have to be restricted to chambering a strike as the art used Fa Jing which means you can place explosive power in any strike (wrist, shoulder, fingers, fist, forearm, etc.)
If you watch my other clips you will see many examples of this.
Thank you for you interest in my teaching.
