  • Professor Kevin Dowd from Durham University Business School argues that CBDC's are unnecessary, undesirable and don’t work, pointing out that there are no obvious benefits from their use and even central bankers have struggled to articulate their usefulness. There is simply no demand for them. Furthermore, if people were compelled to use them, it gives central banks immense control over our spending.
From the second session of the 2023 IIMR Monetary Conference, covering the topic 'Central Bank digital currencies, developments, opportunities and the challenges ahead'.
The IIMR Annual Monetary Conference 'What is the best monetary regime?' was held at the University of Buckingham, October 18th, 2023.
