  • I went down the Toki Pona rabbit hole and discovered that someone build what looks like a mini Toki Pona computer, or at least digital typewriter. I'm now contemplating if I need to learn Toki Pona :D

    "toki Inli" is the English language btw. If the word starts with a capital, it is a name, meaning: you won't find it in the dictionary.

    If you speak Esperanto it's seems to only a matter of time before one dabbles into Toki Pona. I like the sound of Toki Pona, I've toyed around with it a little. Maybe one day. There's so many interesting languages (and other things) to learn. Aside from Vietnamese (which I only picked since it's my wife's languages) I've been really interested in smaller languages. I don't even consider Esperanto in that category since the community is so active. I kinda want to learn an endangered language. Although it would be a bit like that guy from the Twilight Zone who finally can read all his books, but no glasses to read with. Study a beautiful, interesting, dying language, and no one to talk to. Oh well.
    Oh yeah. Recently, I watched a Let's Play of the game "Sapiens" and they throw some Toki Pona in there. Don't know the dev's connection to the language, but cool to see it snuck in there.

      I'm totally like you. There's so many other interesting things. I also have a book on my shelf that I pull down from time to time, dust off, and read through a little. It's a book on an aboriginal language from North Australia that is near extinct. I actually started learning it a little but would also stop when the realization hit that I'd have no one to talk to lol. I totally get that.

    Toki Pona has another even cooler writing system usually called 'sitelen sitelen' which doesn't even look like writing. It's not nearly as common as the Latin script or sitelen pona but I still reckon you'll find it interesting if you didn't already know about it.

    • @Evildea
      @Evildea  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'd never heard of sitelen sitelen until you mentioned it. I just looked it up and you're right it is WAY cooler. Okay, that would definitely be the system I would use haha.

      @@Evildea I don't remember the url, but there's an online sitelen sitelen converter. You type in the toki pona text & it displays the sitelen sitelen. It uses SVGs to create & stack the glyphs. It even gives you the option to choose how compact you want it to be. it basically looks like Mayan glyphs.

    I did enjoy this video.
    I became aware of Toki Pona three days ago. About an hour ago I finished making a set of flashcards on 3x5 cards with the hieroglyphs on the blank side and the Latin alphabet spelling on the top line of the lined side. This will allow me to learn the names of the hieroglyphs.
    Once my book arrives, I can add the meanings of the words and their grammatical usages to the cards. This feels like a good start to learning Toki Pona and its hieroglyphs.

      Another person suggested jan Telakoman's course which is immersion-based, might work for you? I originally learnt aaaall the listed meanings and more if you count common compounds, but ultimately those meanings blurred into a general concept over time, so maybe jan Telakoman's thing where you could just get familiar with the direct meanings/concepts of the words would be good. I admittedly haven't watched the whole thing but have heard good things about it 🙂 It's kind of like, the English translations are a signpost to the meaning of the word, just trust the depth of the word.
