I've lost track of the number of times I've played this. It's probably the first co-op I even played too. I owned the first edition in the king-sized box but was glad to see the re-release; smaller box but the old copy was pretty much worn out. In the re-issue the cards are brown and green instead of white and grey. These colours are very hard to distinguish, particularly if you're a tad colourblind. Brilliant game.

The more I play it, the more I prefer just the base game, perhaps with Battlefields which adds a very different but interesting sub-game. I started to find the Friends & Foes expansion fiddly and unnecessary. It’s interesting to play against Sauron with that expansion, but very hard! Thanks for the play through video - well done surviving to Lothlorien :).
Trying to pick this up on ebay but it's way more than 5 pounds. I'm in Canada and the best price I've seen is $US20 ($CAD 27) plus another $US11 for shipping. Plus, the expansions are actually MORE than the base game. I sort of like the idea of getting all four expansions but man, $$$$! Guess I'll just have to keep checking ebay. Looks like a great co-op game though.
I really wish there was an official variant to play with all 6 boards without Foes. I hate houseruling so I usually just play the base game to avoid them.
Pete Koning I think the main game is cheaper because it had a high production - I think they even ended up in mainstream stores. This led to lots of people buying it, then offloading it cheap when they discovered it was a bit beyond them. The expansions ended up much rarer, especially Sauron and Battlefields. If you ever come to London you can play my copy :)
- New ringbearer gets to draw 2 hobbit cards - Frodos white card ability is limited to hobbit cards - Event tiles are collected and re-shuffeled after each scenario (can't say for sure if this was done or not, just thought the pile seemed lower at Moria than Bree)

Hey Colin, just about to re watch the playthrough as a primer for how to play the game. I bagged a copy for £14 including postage. The box is a bit worse for wear but it's all there! My "container" is also worse for wear, but I'm not sure I'm all there! lol
Such a classic. It's quite linear by today's standards. compared to more modern LOTR games, there are plenty of references and characters, but they don't stick quite so close to the storyline.
OMG - I picked this up a few weeks ago. Copy has Friends Foes as well as Battlefields. As a Tolkien fan, you really should play with 9 characters. Just sayin.
Friends and Foes adds more gameplay - but Battlefields adds a whole trove of extras, i almost think it makes it to fiddly (been so long i just remember i stopped playing with BF).
I think i have a couple copies of this game for sale still. One of the first co-ops i got people to play before i moved to Descent and Runebound. I really like this game and even the Hobbit dice rolling games. Thanks for the playthrough :)
Just played a game tonight and enjoyed it like always :) - Sam Wise took the ring to Mordor and barely escaped the rings power holding onto a win 1 step away from corruption (played on normal, sauron starts on 12). I find the game very strategic but with a bit of luck in the event tiles sometimes but, the expansion Friends and Foes will make that even more challenging while making the gameplay better and more engaging! Hand management and getting your tokens to keep the darkness away is always key. Probably will play again this weekend since the rules are fresh in my head again. Cheerz

Oh, this game introduced me to Middle-earth 20 years ago. Then came the movies, the novels and Lord of the Rings Online in 2009.

If the ringbearer is the same for the next scenario board (having more rings than any other Hobbit), he still gets to draw two cards.
