Indonesia only has 95 incorporated cities. Some of those unincorporated places actually did count but most didn't. Malaysia only has 19 incorporated cities and its the same deal. Cityquiz is definitely far more precise in the US though where they list even unincorporated cities as long as they are Census Designated Places. They miss a lot in Japan I know.
Though the tiny circles look neat, I liked the bigger circles better because I have no ideas how big some cities are and I think it looks nice to have different types of circles :) Great vid as always
1:56 Wow, how did you know about Sofifi? Most Indonesians wouldn’t know where it is located and probably wouldn’t even know such a place existed in the first place 😂 If you ask some random Indonesians what’s the capital of North Maluku, a few would probably say Ternate but most wouldn’t have the slightest idea about the answer 😅 Certainly nobody could tell you it’s Sofifi unless they’re from the province. The game does seem especially harsh; I’m from South Kalimantan and our capital city Banjarbaru doesn’t even make it 😑
might be a little late but theres a city on an island of the coast of the northern most tip of sumatra called sabang which is also the most western point city of Indonesia which you mightve missed, alongside the eastern most city which is merauke (although the website doesnt count it unfortunately), theres also a town in the maluku islands called tobelo (10k+ ppl) which is counted even though tidore (110k+ ppl) which is an actual city there isnt, it was nice to see you know all the cities in north sulawesi and sulawesi in general since most youtubers i watch only know makassar even though the city i live in (manado) is the 2nd biggest city on the island, and kotamobagu is definitely a city (150k+ ppl) but the website also doesnt count that too sadly. great video as always though
Tanjung selor isn’t an incorporated city in indonesia but it does have 56000 residents so i guess the game just inputs the city list from the indo govt data
I've noticed that Japan is very incomplete aswell, some 100k+ cities are missing, meanwhile in Sweden every urban area with 200+ people is listed aswell as municipalities part of a greater urban area, there are even some mountain villages below that, some even fail to register as småort (50+). It feels like someone handpicked some well known villages in sparsely populated areas.
@@roevhaal578 maybe western countries have more complete databases available online of all their urban centers? but surely japan would be as complete as sweden?
@@Джеклейланд yea I don't know what's up with Japan, it's not any of the famous cities but they have city status and some even have 100k+ like Imabari, Higashihiroshima and Hitachinaka for example. Then there are towns that are not designated cities that work like Ichinohe, Iwanai and Tonoshō for example. It's very weird.
@@roevhaal578 Late reply, but this is definitely worth mentioning. This website gets its data from Geonames (for Asia and Europe at least), so names could be spelt differently or there could be missing or unreliable population data. For example, on Geonames's database it's spelt Hitachi-Naka instead of Hitachinaka, and there isn't any population data showing up for Imabari. For most places that didn't use other sources, to check if something is likely on the database or not simply search for a place on Geonames with the Feature Class filter set to "city/village." If it doesn't show up or doesn't have a population figure, it won't be on the database. If it does have them and still isn't on the database, Geonames likely updated their database after cityquiz gathered their data, so new cities on Geonames haven't been added to cityquiz yet. Geonames updating their database happens pretty often too. Also, when they say "cities" they don't literally mean it as it would ruin the whole point of the quiz. Imagine typing in "Reading" and it being wrong because it technically isn't a city. The website's FAQ says it all. Please read it. Cityquiz IS updating all the time. Recently India was added as a separate quiz, and data is constantly being improved, from Poland, to South Korea, to Italy, to Vietnam. It's only a matter of time before Japan gets updated too. EDIT: I copied this from the FAQ of the site itself, just to make it so that others can easily read it. "First, double-check you've spelled the city's name correctly. Try variant spellings, if there are any. Next, make sure it is an independent settlement and not part of another municipality. If it is indeed, then it is probably just missing from the database. The quality of the site's database varies by country. Some countries, like the United States and Brazil, have excellent data. Others, like China and most of Africa, have much sparser data. " ANOTHER EDIT: I found this document showing every single city on cityquiz.io's database so far. It's clear which countries have better data than others. docs.google.com/document/d/1VHQWptZet0trFOPEZf0zob8rjZQPb2p8s6mMjCFsg1Y/edit yet again ANOTHER EDIT: This is what the creator of the website himself said about Japan (just keep in mind however, this was two years ago) "The Asia quiz in general doesn't have very good data. I haven't looked into better data for Japan, but it would mainly depend on whether their national statistical body has a website in English, or else if someone has already compiled and published the data elsewhere."
i think a doc of these type and just small/useful cities would be insane, alot of people cant 5k due to knowledeg, just useful cittiws spread across regions to have a good knowlege base
Don't be too hard on yourself. I consider myself excellent at geography and couldn't name 1/10th of the cities you named in this episode. Also don't forget Singapore ;) (It's Muar, BTW)
Very solid performance, even on Malaysia. The Johor ones were Kluang, Batu Pahat and Muar ad well as JB suburbs Senai and Kulai. In Indo I thought about Cikampek, Karawang, Tanjung Priok and Padalarang (east of Jakarta) as well as Kuta on Bali.
This site isn't always very generous or correct on spelling, so where you are certain something is a city and it's not accepted I'd say it's acceptable to Google alternate spellings
I think it’s usually not about spelling and rather about the cities not being in the database. It’s probably a bit too much work to worry about that, so I think I’ll stick with what I’m doing and just miss out on a few 🤷♂️
You know this guy knows a shit ton of indonesian towns when an entire episode is 2 counties
gd

One thing. The databases for indonesia and malaysia are pretty incomplete and bad in this game so that's why some were not accepted.
This series really makes me contemplate what it means to "know" something lol
I am listening to sounds I never heard before and watching appearing red dots.
Ngl i was looking forward to seeing how big the jakarta circle would be but you turned the by population size before it
I know I'm late but your pronunciation of Malaysian cities is actually really good
Love that you didnt forget my hometown haha
Don’t forget Singapore:)
I think I’ll allow myself to type it in next time 😅
Unreal.. I think its gonna take us till 2024 to see the end😂
So impressive, can‘t wait for countrys like China or Germany

Love this series - incredibly impressive stuff
Very good and interesting video. Love this series! Keep it up😊
How have you remembered so much
That’s insane 😭
nicely done! and even if they weren't always helpful for this particular quiz, it's still impressive seeing you list kabupaten :)

I am in disbelief 😱 you're incredible!!!!
100% want to watch a similar style for regions now seeing as you know so many
No need to have to have a database for Indo. Replace it immediatly with Jake.
Impressive performance once again Sir 😊
