Anhui is pronounced as: An-hway. When it comes to China, I love how geographically sensible the provinces are and how many are in pairs. You got the Yellow River (Huanghe) separating the provinces of Hebei (north of the river, where bei means north) and Henan (south of the river, where nan means south); then south from those you have Dongting Lake (Dongtinghu) separating Hubei (north of the lake) and Hunan (south of the lake) provinces. Also, you have Shandong (Eastern Mountains) and Shanxi (Western Mountains). Way down south you have The Eastern (dong) Expanse (Guangdong) and the Western (xi) Expanse (Guangxi). This dosen't stop with provinces. Beijing means northern capital while Nanjing means southern capital. Tokyo by the way means eastern capital. There is no Western capital, but there is a "Western Peace," or Xi'an. In the south east however, the provinces of Zhejiang and Jiangxi may seem similar in naming convention, but are quite different, they both refer to a different river which flow through them. Anyhow, this was mind-numbingly impressive!
Thank you! I actually watched a video on Chinese provinces, and it was indeed very interesting. I was disappointed to realize that I had forgotten quite a few of the pronunciations when I recorded this. They really don't seem to stick in my brain, probably because it's just such a different language to my native ones!

For me personally, I like to learn maps because I find it entertaining and fulfilling, I get to learn about other places and their history and gets me interested in events in other countries, it also helps me in learning language scripts like Greek and Cyrillic, and honestly just because I can and I'm interested. This is seriously impressive and I am glad to see that people share this passion. You have an incredible memory, seriously impressive!

Do you only divide by oblast (Which if our languages are at all similar means ruled? governed from?) or are there any other subdivisions you have such as municipalities of cities... ?
@@Zastavnik In russian, means and they are governed by () (official term is crazy long: the head of the highest executive body of state power of the subject of the russian federation)
This was mindblowing, astounding and so much more, but I think the comment section already covers all possible synonyms which I could use. I myself have been eyeing this quiz for perhaps more than a year now, but I could never find the motivation nor time to do it. I wonder what you found to be the hardest country or countries to remember, either because of the amount of provinces or because of the hard to learn spelling? And I'm also already looking forward to your next video, which you said might be flags of all subdivisions, but where on earth can you find such a quiz? And what are your plans for after that one? All capitals of subdivisions? Cause I know Jetpunk has a quiz for that one too. Oh and perhaps for stage 3 you could do all seas, all lakes, all highest points, al existing languages, etc. But above all I would be excited to see your knowledge of cities in stage 3/4, perhaps with the Jetpunk quiz of all 100k cities of the world. Oh and now that I'm on it already, you could make stage 4 more country specific. Like all 3143 US counties or do a more varied video with all geography from one country in particular, like I saw you comment with for instance the UK somewhere in this commentsection. Feel free to use these as inspiration, though I think you wouldn't mind taking a rest first after your latest achievement. It's not that I demand you to do these things, but it's just my vision of what would be next step(s) and above all, I would be immensely baffled and most definitely watching every single video with joy if you did these (especially the city ones).
First of all, thanks for your comment! I really appreciate that you took the time to write it. When I said I'd do subdivision flags next, I didn't necessarily mean I'd do them all right away. Part of the reason for that is that an exhaustive quiz doesn't even exist to my knowledge (which you seemed to suspect as well), but there are also many subdivisions that don't have flags at all, and many only have unofficial ones, or flags of unclear status. I also quite like starting regionally because shorter videos give me some room to add interesting context without immediately increasing the length to several hours. As for what comes next, I'm not sure. I've also thought of second-level subdivisions for selected countries and cities, like you mentioned. I'm still not sure what direction to take as I didn't really plan beyond subdivisions, and never expected to get this much attention. Languages also interest me a lot, but I'm still not quite sure how I'd go about packaging that in an entertaining format. Do I just to quizzes or venture into doing some purely educational videos? Also, the stage 1/stage 2 thing just kind of happened, and now I'm not sure if people actually want multiple consecutive videos on one category, it feels like it would be more interesting to mix it up. But there's also a limit to how much I can study simultaneously 😅 This is turning into stream-of-consciousness, but I appreciate the comment and will definitely keep those ideas in mind!
i would just like to applaud your icelandic pronunciation and accent there were times i thought you were icelandic, and im an icelander who works in tourism so i have heard so many attempts. you might also BE icelandic in which case good job on the rest of the world.

This video was suggested to me and since I love geography, I thought I'd go and watch it and then I'd see it... two weeks ago I asked myself if there was anyone who knew all the outlines of the individual provinces, states, etc. Then I thought to myself that it would never be possible for someone to know all these parts by heart. Then I saw it. You can do it, it's insane. I've never seen such a crazy geography flex, it can't be topped. Same! I'm learning as well, I became gradually better at making ways of memorizing subdivisions! It gets a little bit faster every country, currenty I can name South and North America (not central or caribbean yet), Africa, western europe and some other random countries!
I wrote them all down and their administrative centers and made into little pieces of paper
@railroadforest30 I memorize them with their flags , so I am drawing them and at the back write what each Flag is until I learn them all from a country

Mercateer: No one is watching this shit anyway
Me: Nope, I am watching everything through, so I hear you 😂😂😂😂
Missed opportunity to say "No one is watching this, I can even say the n-word" right before doing Niger.
Watched the entire thing from start to finish in one sitting.
I'm insane.
2:59:08 "0% of test takers also scored 100%" sounds about right
This is a revolution in itself. Nobody in the history of YT has done something as remarkable as this. Good job and keep this up!
Magnificent work. I've been working on every federal entity for quite a while - and it took me 2 weeks to learn Russia. I couldn't imagine learning Slovenia's.
Thank you! I'd like to say it wasn't that bad, but... it really was 😂
It was quite good, actually! Mad respect @@MercateerGeo
The only correction 🤓☝️ is that we call an outer subdivision "kray" - that means it has borders with other countries. An inner subdivision is called "oblast"
And you named all the autonomous okrugs and republics just right!

I am french fan about geography but you, you are so good. It's just a talent and before this video I didn't think it was possible to retain all the territorial subdivisions of the world. Incredible work!!!👏
Thank you!! Going into this, I didn't know if I could do it either. But now I think people underestimate the power of spaced repetition. The hardest part is actually putting in the consistent effort :)

Oh so your from earth? Name every place
This guy:
I used to watch Muskox and his Subdivision naming series but than he gave up after 4 continents. You manage to finish this. Hats down (: And yeah I am your proud 420th subscriber.
You are indeed a sub with elevated status, together with sub 1 and sub 69 😁
wow, about octupling subs (2.02k as of writing) in 3 days
also, i think i was the 1337th sub :D
@@nileprimewastakenWelcome to the special sub club! 😁
When I saw this video on my feed, clicked on it, and saw your channel and I thought it said 39k subscriber. But only 3.9k? That’s wild. But with this sort of content, you’re gonna have absolutely no problem growing the channel. Phenomenal effort my guy, I’ve been working towards being able to name every subdivision but am nowhere near as confident and knowledgable as you! Well done mate, good luck with your future crazy projects
Thank you! I will try to keep the projects as crazy as is feasible ;)
@@MercateerGeo You’re beyond feasible at this point haha.
Surprisingly good Portuguese pronunciation! Was not expecting that, cheers from Portugal 🇵🇹
As a Brazilian I envy you
Unbelievable how you were able to do this. Can't even begin to think of how many hours of preparation you've gone into doing this. Congratulations from Pennsylvania/Wales!
As a big geography nut and have extensive knowledge, I have been impressed with certain geography channels on TH-cam, but I think this takes the cake. This is a phenomenal feat, if this is truly all done from memory. My applause to you sir
This was fucking amazing!! Can't believe I actually watched it all
Finding Mombasa was absolutely clutch, that was amazing. Also super surprised that Western hadn't been done yet until the very end
I loved how you said (almost) every one as you went, not that I could actually tell if the pronunciation was good or not. Anyway great stuff
Thank you! I can't believe you watched it all either 😂 No but I really appreciate the support. I was quite pleased with that Mombasa find, imagine going through that list at the end...
This my friend, this is what insanity looks like. What the hell man, this is by far the most impressive and insane thing I've ever seen. Massive props to you for learning all this. Earned a sub, can't wait to see what else you're up to!
Well done! This video deserves more recognition in the geography community
the perfect pronunciation of every state is kinda insane. i can personally vouch for the greek pronunciation. & ty for teaching me something new, i grew up in australia & actually never learned the administrative divisions!
Oh my gosh, I thought I was good at naming Country regions, but this, absolutely PHENOMENAL!!
this needs to go viral you are insane at this and i appreciate the effort into getting the pronunciations too
Anhui is pronounced as: An-hway.

I love how you can trace a curve from Japan to Korea and China and pass by a string of cities named Eastern Capital, Capital, Capital, Capital and Northern Capital 😂
no one is talking about how perfect your pronounciation and accent of the divisions are
20:39 Funny when you type Amazonas it checks for 4 different subregions.
You're a legend, btw. Great pronunciation as well. Cheers from Paraná, Brazil.
I am trying to get to your level! You are a legend bro
this is beautiful, i can't imagine how long it took to memorize all these subdivisions and to make this video too... great work!
Oh my god. This is crazy. Big ups for that. The geography stuff I need to see more often. Even the pronunciation of Czech regions (kraje) was on point. Just crazy

Helt sjukt imponerande. Blev jävligt förvånad över hur bra du uttalade våra län, innan du nämnde att du var svensk. Stor eloge!
Incredibly impressive, also you had near perfect pronunciation of the Estonian regions, good job!
Thank you! Knowing Finnish probably helps a bit :) But you still have that tricky õ!
What in the absolute jesus have I found. You sir and an insane level of human being, the first of your kind
Not sure why it took me this long but when he got to Iceland with the insanely long municipality names is where I lost it
yk the fact the u named them all then time stamped them just proves ur a god Keep the work up man
Omg this is so impressive, in my school I get bored fast so for months I have done Seterra quizzes but when it comes to continental subdivisions I've only finished North America and South America, I am genuinely impressed by your dedication and persistence to achieve this.

As someone who's born in Finland and lives in Sweden. I heard you say Sörmland like most Sörmlänningar like to call it. My guess is you're from "Södermanland". And your pronounciations of the Finnish subdivisions were spot on!
I'm from Stockholm but also speak Finnish natively, so you're not far off! 😉
This is absolutely crazy
I was NOT expecting for you to get the pronunciation of Iranian provinces that right
I thought I was impressive for remembering 14 countries, but you are clearly on a whole nother level, congrats!
(in this order, USA, Canada, Australia, India, China, Brazil, Russia, Pakistan, Nigeria, Germany, Mexico, South Africa, Spain and France. And I didn't even include the US overseas territories or Washington DC, and for France the only ones I memorised are the 18 regions)
Oh my god this is amazing i genuinely thought you had around 500k subs from your skill and editing work huge congrats

How is this even possible? You are a legend
Bro I'm Russian and even I wouldn't probably be able to name all of our subdivisions. Kudos!!
Do you only divide by oblast (Which if our languages are at all similar means ruled? governed from?) or are there any other subdivisions you have such as municipalities of cities... ?
@@Zastavnik There are republics, krais, oblasts, cities of federal importance, an autonomous oblast, and autonomous okrugs. In total 85
@@Zastavnik In russian, means and they are governed by () (official term is crazy long: the head of the highest executive body of state power of the subject of the russian federation)
@@fingertorturer Thanks for the explanation, thought so... In Slovene/Yugoslav languages it means the goverment
And every oblast has raions
But there's also a limit to how much I can study simultaneously 😅
This is turning into stream-of-consciousness, but I appreciate the comment and will definitely keep those ideas in mind!
i would just like to applaud your icelandic pronunciation and accent there were times i thought you were icelandic, and im an icelander who works in tourism so i have heard so many attempts.

holy shit the pronunciation of the subdivisions of Portugal was crazy impressive!
Still sad that it doesn't have the provinces of the Netherlands.
Still an extremely impressive feat, I can't imagine how long it took to learn this!
yeah why is that
Same with New Zealand like wtf the country isn't one province.
@@florisredit’s because it’s only the first level subdivision and technically the Netherlands first level subdivision is Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, and Netherlands. They are all self governing countries within the kingdom of the Netherlands
You have my utmost respect 🤯🤯💪🏻🇩🇪
