    I have nostalgia for this coaster. It was one of my first Arrow Dynamics custom loopers I've been on many years ago. The interlocking loops is still imo one of the best parts of this ride even to this day. I'm glad to see this ride still in operation

    This coaster should be given the title of historical landmark. I rode it 40 years ago as a child and I was terrified of it, I was in awe standing so close to the first drop on that walkway. I fell in love with coasters after riding it.

      I don't remember if it's near the entrance of the ride, or on the boardwalk below, but there is a metal plaque designating the Loch Ness Monster as an ACE roller coaster landmark.

      I went on this thing for the first time back in August 2019 in an effort to overcome my fear of roller coasters and came off very impressed with how smooth it really is for an Arrow looping coaster; by far one of Arrow’s best looping coasters yet. The first drop however scared the living shit out of me because of the speed at which you go down it. This thing holds my personal record for the tallest and fastest roller coaster I’ve ever been on believe it or not

    I rode this for the first time back in August 2019 in an effort to overcome my fear of coasters and let me tell you, the first drop scared the living shit out of me because of how fast you go down it, you really pick up some serious speed going down that first drop and it was so intense for me to the point where I actually grayed out at the bottom of it. I will say this thing is one of Arrow’s best looping coasters if not their best and I can definitely see why so many people still love it and ride it today. I have a friend who works at Busch Gardens Williamsburg as a tour guide and he says that their maintenance team does a FANTASTIC job maintaining this ride and all the other rides in the park. Now I know some of you may be wondering why the coaster doesn’t have the trains going through the loops at the same time and I’m actually wondering the exact same thing although I’m sure there’s a reason behind it. I’m certain that Nessie was originally programmed to have the trains running through the loops simultaneously and while I have seen recent videos of the ride testing with the trains running through the loops simultaneously, there’s definitely a reason why they don’t do it when running normally with riders but who knows what it is

Apollo's Chariot was rough for me but was considered a more beginner coaster so I rode on that one first, I came off of the chariot with a headache because of how much it threw me around. Loch Ness Monster was a treat to go on, and the new narration is fun and makes it easier to find since the park has such poor signage

    • @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan
      @TonyKimtheamusementparkfan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      During the time this was built, Arrow Dynamics didn't always predict speed correctly when taking into account friction and wind resistance. It was common for the train to travel to fast and be too forceful for riders at times, which made sense, since there were no computers to build rides like this in the 1970s. Today, especially going into the first loop, those trims controlled by the ride's computer will slow the train enough to monitor the speed and to make sure that the train can travel through the loop.

      @Tony Kim - Hello Tony, Great comment. Thankyou. I didn't know that about Arrow. Your comment about the lack of computers on the coasters back in the 70s makes very much sense. That is when i was growing up, or at least trying to, lol. Im still trying to. Haaaa haaa.
      I wanted to ask you, what did Arrow specialize in, since it wasn't about the speed? I was thinking maybe it is the comfort and the styles of their coasters. The train on this coaster rides nice and smooth, making the ride more enjoyable. It even rides smooth thru the layout and in the turns. It's even very smooth while riding through the loops. This coaster has a very cool track layout that they built. Nothing to fancy or crazy. It's just a great ride from beginning to end.
      I usually get nausiated when i go upside-down.
      I dont ride many coasters today. Im older, w back and knee pains.
      I always preferred the wooden coasters. They did beat me up, but i still had more fun on them.
      I haven't been to Busch Gardens in florida and virginia in many, many yrs. I think i was last at virginia. I've been their 2x and once in Tampa. Fl.
      I always loved riding this coaster.
      Have a blessed and safe 2023.
      Glen
      Ps. I live in Pgh, Pa. KENNYWOOD is my home park. It's only 45 min from me.
      Have you ever been there?
      If not, try to go. It is a great park.
      I haven't been their in a long time, with working and keeping too busy.
      They have made many changes to it over the years. I know it is expensive. Someone just told me a few weeks ago that it cost 45.00 just to walk in the park.
      It used to be free. Then you could buy tickets for whatever ride you wanted to go on.
      They had a one price deal. Pay one price, and ride all day/ nite.
      Then that price went up to ride all day.
      If you didn't want to ride all day, you could pay a small price just to walk in.
      But, now, i dont know how much it is to go in and to ride all day.
      The wooden coasters are fantastic. I haven't gone to ride the Steelers coaster. I dont know if i would or not.
      Take care.

      @idkwhattoputhere Hey, thank you so much for that info. YOU ROCK. It was so awesome that you told me all of that valuable information. I appreciate you.
      I enjoyed reading everything that you told me. I honestly dont think i have any more particular questions . I was only asking Tony earlier about Arrow because of the help that Tony had provided, and Arrow was mentioned, and that is why and how i thought to ask what Arrow was known for in their coasters. I have heard of Arrow, RMC, and a few other coaster builders.
      You provided enough info to help me understand how awesome they are / were. You said Arrow was so very inventive. I agree with everything that you told me, lol.
      By watching the Lochness monster on the TH-cam video, the ride then even felt very smooth to me on the screen. Lol.
      I always thought that the coaster type rides in Disney World in Fla. all rode very nice and smooth. I loved those rides.
      You mentioned they built the Steel Phantom at Kennywood.
      Did Arrow build the laser loop at Kennywood? It was kennywoods first loop coaster in the 80s. Steel phantom was going to be torn down. But they had many people protest, and it became PHANTOMS REVENGE.
      Who built that coaster?
      I just Googled it, and it says that in 2001, Morgan modified and renovated steel phantom, which is now the phantoms Revenge.
      They used the same load station and lift hill that Arrow built . It changed at the first down hill track. They changed the hill, made it steeper, and changed the track layout. It goes a little faster than the steel phantom went.
      I like riding that coaster.
      It's fast and smooth.
      Is ARROW still in business?
      Is Morgan still in business?
      Im thinking that Morgan became RMC. is that correct?
      Thank you,
      Glen

      @idkwhattoputhere - You know your coasters. Im very impressed. Thanks for your help. I honestly had no idea about the companies and who bought who and who owns who.
      You brought back my memory when you told me the German co made laser loop. I remember their name on the laser loop sign. Thanks much.
      So, you dont think that Arrow is smooth?
      I trust your words and opinions. I haven't rode a roller coaster for many yrs.
      I was working all day, and on saturdays
      When i had a day off, i was either hurting or at an apt. Lately, i haven't had the money to go away.
      I hope some day to get a life. Lol.
      I have heard of the new texas Giant, that RMC renovated.
      So, is Arrow loopers a new company? You never mentioned them. Im sorry if i mis read anything about them. I think you are saying that maybe their coasters aren't as smooth as to what ARROW used to build. Nothing is as good as what they used to be. Lol.
      I heard of RMC because they invented that new kind of track covering. Is that right? I didn't know if they built coasters or just the special track.
      I think i read that RMC retracks wooden coasters.
      Im not sure if i know what the heck im saying, haaaa.
      i forgot the name, but what are the coaster builders' names from OHIO? I know their is a coaster builder near PA. Is it OHIO? Like in COLUMBUS, OHIO. I'm just wondering.
      I watch a lot of the videos made by EL TORO.
      He seems to know about coasters. I like him, for what i learn. You would give him a run for his money. Lol.
      THANKS.

    • @Rohrbach00
      @Rohrbach00 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually no it’s not. I rode this once back in 2019 and I can tell you from experience that this ride is not very rough at all, yes you do get some tiny bumps here and there but they are the rather “loving” kind of bumps which is expected out of a vintage coaster like this one. Whoever said that about this coaster is just downright wrong and let me be real here, this coaster’s ridership is still high today and if it really was really rough, it would not have many riders today and it probably would not be loved anymore not to mention the fact that it’s still loved by so many today

    • @MackLee23
      @MackLee23 ปีที่แล้ว

      In my opinion it's rough, but I have problems with my neck so I can't tolerate rollercoasters like I once could. Personally, the roughest ride is in the back, so you may want to try riding closer to the front. The restraints don't help much with comfort either, but they're old so I don't expect them to be the best. The opinions on the roughness of Loch Ness seem to differ a lot. If you're concerned, maybe save this one for later in your visit, that way if you do find it rough, you'll have gotten to enjoy the larger and smoother rollercoasters first.

    • @Rohrbach00
      @Rohrbach00 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MackLee23 When I first rode this back in 2019, I was actually in one of the far back rows and still had a smooth ride. I will admit that I was expecting the roughness that Arrow coasters are known for which you did talk about but thankfully that wasn’t the case. The worst part for me personally was the first drop because of speed (not to mention that I almost closed my eyes because of how fast we were going). I rode it in an effort to overcome my fear of the big coasters and I have no regrets doing it 😊. There is absolutely no way that it would have so many riders today if it had a reputation as a rough ride and trust me, it doesn’t. I can totally see why so many people still go back to that ride and ride it today (just saying).
