Imagine being 15-16 year old girls in TuTus going out in front of a massive metal audience who don't even speak your language and rocking their faces off. This is an important moment for Babymetal. This is when they finally broke out some into the foreign metal market by winning over this huge audience of metal heads when they were bumped to the main stage. They were nervous as hell because they were expecting to play on a smaller stage with BM fans for the most part.
One sign that a reviewer is approaching becoming a BabyMetal convert is when they accept seeing choreography in metal songs, get used to it, and finally, compliment it. You are somewhere in there 😀
Although BABYMETAL was not very famous in 2014, Sonisphere staff picked them up on the main stage. I would like to express my respect for that decision.
Just saying, the decision to put them on the main stage was decided months ago before the event, not at the last minute like the comments would led you to believe.
Probably the most singularly important performance of BABYMETAL's career up until that time, in my opinion. They basically went from being considered just another gimmick group from Japan to becoming a true metal music force to the world in a matter of minutes in front of a huge crowd that really had no idea what to expect from them. You happened to cut the video off just before BABYMETAL's walking off stage and thousands in the crowd chanting "WE WANT MORE! WE WANT MORE!" which is a wonderful testimony as to what an impact BABYMETAL made that special day.
Great reaction - this was their first time and first major festival outside of Asia, at the start of their set most of the crowd didn't know who they were. My vote for your next song goes to either Headbanger or BABYMETAL DEATH (both live from the Legend 1997 show). The links for both have already been posted.
Ok i'm not sure if this is posted but might as well do so to let you understand a bit of context to this moment, it is after all the main turning point in their career. OK, some background. The song title actually means "No More, Bullying, Forever". It was the ending song at this show, where they managed to turn an epic FAIL into an epic victory. - This was their first tour outside of Japan, and their first UK show - They booked a small stage but, for an unknown reason, they were moved to the main stage at the last minute. Instead of 3-5 thousand of their loyal fans they faced 30-50 thousand (?) trve metalheads. - This was a crowd waiting for Ghost, Deftones, Anthrax, and Iron Maiden. 90% of them knew absolutely nothing about BM. - BM released their debut album just a few months before. All the above mentioned bands had several albums and decades of history behind them. - They were girls between 14-16, all their songs had backing tracks, they sang not in English (the only other metal band that could get away with it recently was Rammstein). The backing band was made up of session musicians. The girls were singing about chocolate, and they were playing hide and seek on the stage, literally. They already had their own made up religion about the Fox God, and their hand sign was mocking the devil's horns. - This was NOT metal at all. They were nobodies and they didn't belong on the main stage of a metal festival. But, they knew it well, and they expected to get booed and bottled. There's a backstage photo of the girls before the show and their faces read "WE ARE F*CKED" And they went on the stage and Yui's hoodie got stuck in her hair, Moa's headset did not work and she missed the opening moves of the choreo. There was a close up of Yui's face on the projector screen at this moment, she saw what was happening, and for a moment her expression was like "ok, forget it, NOW we are f*cked..." - You can see in your video that Yui's skirt also started to fall apart at the last song, IDZ. - So what else happened? The crowd got a taste of the band at the soundcheck and they loved it. Then there was an epic (or ridiculous ?) Star-Wars style video intro showed on the screen. The first song started and 30 seconds later there were moshpits forming. In the next song, Gimme Chocco, there was a call-and-respond where Su effortlessly made the crowd sing the chorus in Japanese. Next came the solos and everybody shat themselves. Then the song titled Catch Me If You Can, then their women-empowering song, and then the ending song you saw. The biggest circle pits and WOD's of the festival. - Everybody was talking about them, and their T-shirts were top sellers even two days later. - If there's an epic entrance to the genre, this is it. Basically they got slapped in the face with an insane difficulty spike and they managed to turn it around and seize this once in a lifetime opportunity, conquering a situation that will crack most professionals twice their age. An epic win for babymetal.
What is amazing is their confidence at such a young age. Then you add in a tough Saturday morning crowd at a heavy rock festival, I am surprised anyone was there at that time! This was the last song of the set but they had already played some excellent BabyMetal songs and were winning the crowd over. Many would not of heard of BabyMetal or only would of known Gimmie Chocolate, so it would of been a pleasant surprise to witness how awesome they already were at that time.
Babymetal is my favorite band the energy they have is unbelievable and the kami band sound amazing ijame dame zettie is one of my favorite songs and it's a anti-bullying song.
"No Rain, No Rainbow live Legend S Baptism XX" from the official channel! It's a "80ies" Rockballad, one of my favorite songs, another Su solo too. In this one, you can feel the emotions without actually understanding the lyrics. in my opinion, one of the best ballads ever written! also, Headbanger is a great choice, you can take either the official video or live at makuhari messe or budokan! *i have to be the one, it's Ijime not Ljime :p but everyone seems to make this mistake at first :D
The remarkable thing about this crowd that you probably don't know is that it's not even a BABYMETAL crowd. They are all freshly converted, most of them didn't even know them before. I'm not sure whether you have already reacted to Akatsuki, but if you like good guitar solos you should check that one out. Edit: You have.
⚡ 💀 💕 / 🚫 And… that's how you win over metalheads on your first UK appearance. Sonisphere can be a really tough crowd if they don't like you. Su had them singing along in Japanese on 'Gimme Chocolate!!'. She was 16 at Sonisphere. Yui and Moa had both recently turned 15. There is an alternate "Nemesis" version of this song, found on limited editions of the single. It features guitars by former Arch Enemy guitarist Christopher Amott. For your next one, 'No Rain, No Rainbow' is a great song. I especially like the 'Legend S' version. It's a solo by Su, and more of a ballad, not so heavy, but it really shows off her voice.
As you know, Suzuka LOVES the ballads. "Legend S" may be *_the_* best version of NRNR, if for no other reason than it's the only time Mikio ever played the bridge -- no disrespect to Leda, but Mikio shreds it like no one's business. I'm glad the proshot included so many shots of our dearly departed Ko-Gami, along with closeups of Su's expressions.
@Soufriere Hard to believe that they debuted 'No Rain, No Rainbow' back in 2013, but have performed it live only five times, including both 'Legend S' shows. The close up on Mikio during this part always gets me: "Nidoto ae-nai kedo wasure-naide itai yo. Yume ga tsuzuku nara same-naide." ("We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever. If the dream continues, I wish I'll never wake up from it.")
On the big screen it said in English before the song started that the song was about no more bullying. RIP Mikio Fujita. He's your shredder and the drummer lost his brother so he left and Mizuno Yui left for health reasons. This band went through a lot in 2018.
Suzuka-chan, Moa-chan and Yui-chan trained for years with choreographer Mizuno Mikiko-sensei, who invented a new style of dancing for metal. It kind of reminds me of cheerleading!
For me it's like theatre - not so much listening to it as experiencing it - I probably wouldn't put more than maybe 5-6 songs on a playlist but I'll watch anything they do all day :D
Hint on pronouncing Japanese words accurately - there aren't really silent letters (at least 'officially'). Also, letters are pretty much always pronounced the same way. And double vowels are just a longer version of single letters (think of it a bit like a stress or accent mark). So from an semi-phonetic English standpoint, the title is (more or less) EE-jee-meh dah-meh zet-tigh or EE-jee-meh dah-meh zet-tah-ee. So, I think the French word "damer" is pronounced the same as Dame.
Next try Headbanger, heres a version with subtitles th-cam.com/video/XC_jBZ47ja4/w-d-xo.html The uploader of that channel has a good amount of translated BM songs to choose from, great for us that dont know japanese but wanna know what were listening to.
You also gotta try Their song GJ [Good Job](th-cam.com/video/wC8Ued7HLiw/w-d-xo.html) It's alittle less poppy and my favorite black BM Song. Thats the subtitled version. This is the best live concert version in my opinion though its a full concert video and no subtitles ok.ru/video/743043435106 GJ Starts at 32:25
"See you"......maybe head and over or wood trees as one more Wee Euro Ewok Womble who can't wait for the end and "chops" it off with one swipe it's paws......bless

When BABYMETAL took over the world ;) Did you see Yui's ripped skirt? She was rocking really hard
Cool, just 4 songs before this, the crowd hadn't even heard them before! BABYMETAL - DEATH Legend 1997

the meaning of this song is great
and the back story of the event is a turning point for babymetal

From what I read the organizers mentioned something like:
the biggest influx of a crowd so early in the morning probably ever at Sonisphere.
私もSumetalのmiddle rangeでの powerful voiceが大好きです。
nice reactionでした。

I would pick makuhari messe I love Mikio's solo in it
Yes please do Catch me if you can. I love the choreography it's really fun.
Hi from the UK. They just announced a new album to come out later this year..... Welcome to "the one".
I'm a follower of this band because of this performance in the UK
The performance/video that made me a fan. :-)
I'd go for Headbanger next. It is another one of their more classic metal songs.

React to Creatures (For A While) by 311 and Fast Junkie by Overkill. Nice songs.
Really my only big complaint with Babymetal is that the drums sometimes just become a wall of white noise drowning out the other instruments.
