    Thank you to the TH-camr for this! A couple of things I would add. The piece absolutely looks like it won’t clear the clutch assembly - as he says press down on the assembly, until it shifts down and continue to hold while tapping with rubber mallet on the other side. Reassembly - remove the spring and circlip and assemble onto new shaft, HOWEVER (tip) do not seat this big spring on the retaining tabs yet. Tap the new shaft into position and then use a flat head to lift the spring ends into position. Much easier than seating them first and then trying to install the shift shaft. Good luck!

    Hey - thanks for this video. I have just sold my wife's TTR125 to a friend of mine for his wife and kids (I know! Never sell to a friend!) and after a weekend of learning to ride, the gearbox stopped shifting down. I suspect a bit of stomping was going on. Anyhoo, they brought it back and I took the day off work to take the bike to a dealers to be fixed - regardless of the cost. I found your video and checked out my TTR, and I have exactly the same issue! You can imagine that I was thinking the worse...
    Thanks again - now I have to either buy a new one (waiting on the price) or get the old one welded up.

      I'm sorry about the late reply, I hope you got it going! If not the part number through Rocky Mountain is 5ap-18101-01-00. Thanks.

      Not a problem. I managed to get it welded (I'm in the NZ AirForce), and it's all sorted. Thanks again for the video - saved me heaps of $$$.

    Great instructive video. Just want to add for other viewers' benefit, this bike does have an oil filter, though not the conventional type and not easily replaceable. It's that disk behind the primary drive gear on the crankshaft. Looks like a wide washer/spacer. It's called a centrifugal oil filter and it works by spinning the engine oil as it passes through i(note oil connection in case cover). You can see it described as "FILTER, ROTARY 5HH-E3451-00-00" in the OEM parts diagram, part 12. I wonder why a manufacturer would choose this design. Probably because small engines don't generate that much metal filings from engine moving parts, or powder from clutch wear, and this simple filter works long enough until your next clutch replacement, when you have to pull off the side cover? It costs only $8.53 on Partzilla! I wonder what the owner's manual says about replacing the oil filter on this bike! You can see this same kind of filter on the Honda CRF125. Thank you for the well-shot and narrated video!

    Sorry it took so long for me to see these comments! It slid right in without any problems. Thought I was going to have to take out the clutch basket but it made it past. It shifted like new when it was done.

      TC, I have a TTR90 which is semi auto, 3 gears up. 1st gear shifts fine with my foot, but 2nd and 3rd gets stuck or slips meaning, I cant, really shift with my foot. i have to actually stop the bike while still running and pull it up into both gears with my hand, but it still goes into 2nd and 3rd, but I MAY HAVE TO DO IT A COUPLE TIMES b4 it goes into gear...
      I took the engine casing off and checked everything, but i am still a novice regarding clutches. Any clue what it could be? Thanks for any info !

      I'm no pro at it either but it sounds to me like your clutch disks are sticking. They may need replaced. I'm not real familiar with centrifugal clutches but normal clutch disks are an easy fix. Lots of TH-cam videos to help.

      Silk Bare Knuckle Boxing, Could the shifter be bent and hitting the case? Or maybe the shifting fork is bent? Hopefully you found the problem by now!

    So my bike was riding fine doing wheelies good and it started shifting bad amd eventually only went into 3rd/4th. I took it apart and I found the same piece of metal in my case and thst part you tool out wasn't connected to where it goes. I noticed when I hold it in plsce it still doesnt shift normal like somethings blocking something lol. Any ideas or is thst normal unt its out on correctly? I just posted a video on my oage.

      It looks like the tab between the spring is broken off ? The same part as I did. Are you saying you replaced it and you are still having the same issue?

    How would you start a ttr without a key or kick start

    • @6491ford
      @6491ford 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wood Smallblock I'm sure Yamaha would be able to get a key? Seems like they should be pretty generic. Worse case scenario you could "hotwire" it, twisting the key switch wires together I suppose? Hopefully you have it figured out by now.
