You're interpretation to this song did suffer from your lack of exposure to the Map of the Soul project and its connection to the psychology of Karl Jung. That's ok because expecting a newbie to pick up the complex messaging which differentiates BTS from some of the other K Pop artists you seem to bundle them with in your intros is is not per se easy.
Shadow literally refers to Jung's subconscious repository of emotions and thoughts within the broader Psyche. It is not air tight in the sense that as light is shone on one's Persona, shadows tend to grow and leak into consciousness. This creates dissonance which in some cases can be rather strong.
This song is applied Jungian psychology. Suga has grown a Persona which seemingly is fulfilling his dreams only to experience self-doubts and repressed emotions as to his being leaking through. They are now eroding his confidence in that Persona. He becomes confused and arguably detaches from his dreams saying "Don't let me shine".
But ultimately that is not the answer. Jung believes in the concept of individuation wherein emerging Shadow elements are integrated into the broader Psyche. The Persona is simply a tool within this. In this song this process is depicted darkly with the Shadow literally saying you will never get away from me. You are me and I am you.
In other BTS songs the need for individuation is treated as something when approached which leads to a more triumphant new way of moving forward. Hopefully this spiel helps you as you dig deeper into BTS. You are doing a great job and look forward to more great reactions.

So, here's the thing... I think people, specifically English speaking people, use language as a crutch. Saying that "I can't get behind this" or "I can't understand this"... Is an excuse for ignorance. Because there are millions of people around the world who do not speak English, yet are listening to and are fans of Western artists (BTS members included!). Why is that the norm? Yet, the opposite is unfathomable? I'm saying this as someone who only started listening to kpop in the last 6-7 months myself. I understand that there's an initial reluctance, and it's fine if someone genuinely doesn't like the music. But, using language as an excuse is invalid, especially when translations are right there. Maybe the lyrics and sentiment aren't 100% translatable. But I guarantee that the average person doesn't even know the lyrics to 90% of the songs they hear on the radio. Music should transcend language and boundaries. People are often unfortunately too close minded to give things a chance when it's too different from their norm.

I totally agree with you. Old days when I was young I used to listen to western songs without knowing English and not knowing the meanings. Still I enjoyed and liked listening them. They play songs in Spanish on the radio in US. I know there are a lot of Spanish speaking people and listeners in US but there are also a lot of people who don't know Spanish and they do not complain to radio stations. Then why don't they play Korean songs even though there are a lot of request. Discrimination? Afraid? Lacking Payolas? ????????

So, here's the thing, TheThirdErnest typically breaks down lyrics on his channel. His reaction to ISIS by Joyner Lucas and Logic is a perfect example of how he typically breaks down lyrics. His lyrical break down is how he attracted so many people on TH-cam and was able to make this his full-time job with the support of his fans (including me)
It's difficult for anyone to give a lyrical breakdown of a song when they aren't fluent in the language the song is in.

I respect that as a reactor, he is now giving it a chance. As I said, I also only started to listen earlier this year. Also, to reiterate, translations of most BTS songs are on the music videos. This song is not about being laden with self doubt, it's more like coming to terms with the person you become once you've reached the top. I try not to get too upset about new reactors not getting it, but when you called it cheesy…
Karl Jung’s theory is about reaching individuation or self actualization. Being the best you can be. In order to do so, you must embrace the three parts of your psyche. The persona, shadow, and ego. Suga is talking about all of the things he wished for coming true. But now he has fears that he keeps hidden below his persona. Fear of losing it all (falling), fears of messing up (when he shines), etc. Those are parts of his shadow. At the end, when the sound changes and it becomes more aggressive, it’s not about Suga saying screw it. It’s his shadow talking. He’s being reminded that the shadow is a part of who he is (I am you and you are me). Only after accepting those fears will he become the person he can be.

The shadow is not ''doubt''. He already achieved all his dreams, The shadow is the fear that he might lose it all one day. When he got to the top it's so lonely he doubts whether it's even worth it. And he's not sure if he sacrificed his original self that started this journey, in order to achieve his dreams. The ending part is the shadow questioning Suga. Wasn't this what you wanted? Now that you've achieved all your dreams, why do you still live in fear? This is self-produced and written by him

I'm assuming someone else has already told you this, but the distortion part, where you said it sounded like suga was no longer alone in his fears, is actually his shadow speaking. it is telling Suga that no matter how hard he tries, he cannot run away from his fears, depression and general dark sides of himself. that no matter how hard he tries to escape, he cant because they are inhabiting the same body and it would be easier for Suga to just accept it. at the same time the song is also about the music industry, so that distorted part can also be interpreted as the shadow telling Suga that if he wants to go anywhere in music, then he needs to accept the dark parts of the music industry, as there is no success without it.
this song is about his struggle to accept both his own shadows and the shadows of the music industry and his realisation that if he wants to keep making music, he needs to accept and deal with both. it is also heavily based on Jungian philosophy. RM did a song called Persona and J-Hope did a song called EGO. together with Shadow they form a trio and tell a story about their paths to self discovery and acceptance following Carl Jung's theory of the map of the soul

Please try to get past your kpop box, its not any different from pop music and its versatility. It is just in a different language. You are seeing through a very narrow lense of differentiation. Kpop is not even a genre as such it’s a industry where there are idol groups who share certain commonality. This is just putting them into a box by the western industry. Which was pretty evident when Vmas put butter a English disco pop in kpop category. They love to subvert anything rising against western music. BTS doesn’t even fit into this genre if you want to adhere to it strictly. If you want a deeper dive into this I will suggest you to watch bby gangs BTS vs KPOP video essays you will get what I am trying to say.

It feels like you've constructed a barrier in your mind of "But this isn't in English, so I'm missing nuances" that's actually getting in the way of hearing the songs. Accept it, let it go, move on, is my advice! And there are always the "Explained by a Korean" and "DKDK TV" videos that explain the nuances for those of us who don't have the Korean skills. Good luck on your K-pop journey!

Out of the trilogy for the rap line, (persona , shadow, and ego) I would have to say Shadow is my favorite, but you should listen to the others. They all have to do with Carl Yungs theory of the soul... hence why it is the main intro, interlude, and outro on their map of the soul album 7.

I hope you read the comments because it's really discouraging for viewers when the owner of the channel doesn't.
With that said, I'm gonna say a few things. One: K-Pop is an awful term in many ways. Firstly, it's very creation is wrong since it was invented by western people to differenciate "OUR music, GOOD music" with "whatever that is that the cultural others do that is worse that what we do". How much validation you give someone who talks about a phenomenon which he isn't part of? It's like listening a white person talking about black ppl rather than a black person talking about black ppl. Secondly, that aside, the term makes you belive that it means "korean pop" which it isn't but even if it meant that, since when do we categorize genres based on geography? Do ppl say USA-pop, UK-pop, etc? No. So why do they do that when it's korean? Think about it. Going on, if you want to make the term K-Pop make sense, you can say it refers more or less to "POPular Korean music" but even that isn't true since the most popular music on Korea is ballads and indie. So, ignoring that the term wants but can't be an abreviattion, the term refers to artists who have gone through a trainee period of time, debut under a enterteinment company, dance and rap/sing and do comebacks. That description fits what korean call "idol music". So, KPop = idol music = industry/package.
Second thing. If you continue to say that kpop is a genre, then you have to admit that BTS is not kpop. BTS is different from all kpop acts - genre speaking. Their form, subject matter and style (factors that, if similar with others make a united genre) is different.
So, you should continue to inform yourself since you can't just trust me without doing your own research, and take into account that the term is pretty much useless, specially when you react to BTS.
With that being said, BigHit Labels official MV's translations are good but if you want to not have stuff missing in translation AT ALL, then check out doolsetbangtan blog.
Last thing, PSY as a meme and past face of KPop in the west: PSY isn't really kpop lol. PSY was a meme only bc western ppl couldn't take a foreigner seriously, which you should be ashamed of, not saying it like it's funny. PSY had/has a tremenously inferior impact on the world than BTS - no offence to him.

As much as I appreciate seeing youtubers and other westerners "react" to BTS, it's starting to become more and more a "let's ride on the power of ARMY views". Not to point fingers and say that's what this is, but sometimes, you can't miss the disinterested look on one's face. Or even the unwillingness to just do a quick search to figure out what on Earth is said in the songs. I mean, I listen to songs of every culture - Arab, French, Chichewa, Africaans, Korean, Japanese, Thai, etc. - because music is just music to me. Sometimes, I get completely lost in the songs not because the translation doesn't suffice, but because I can instantly tell when I might be missing something. Maybe there's a bigger picture to it etc. That's the case with almost every BTS song, especially ones in albums. Every song is linked to each other, to the album itself and between their other albums as well. Hell, they had a whole BTS universe where the story was unwoven across 3-4 albums, song by song. My point is, a quick google search would give you the answer you want, yet a lack of attempt to do it, even if to correct yourself shortly after, does show that they don't REEEALLY care but is doing it because it's a trend now.

It goes deeper than that which is why they are so loved, due to their artistry, musicality and complex lyrics. I don't understand Korean or their Korean references but that makes no difference. one's understanding of their art is limited. This would not be a translation, or non- English problem.
3 albums about school, 3 albums about the most Beautiful Moment in Life, Youth, a series about the concept of Loving Oneself (Love Yourself: Her, Him, Tear, Answer), 3 Map of the Soul albums exploring Carl Jung's conceptualization of one's "Persona"...

Ok, I’ll try. BTS, as well as many other groups, deal in at least 3 languages, Korean, Japanese, English. Other groups deal in Cantonese, Mandarin. To group everything as Kpop is condescending. It is less Korean than it is pop music. This pop music mostly originated in the west, I’ll even say the US. This music has spread throughout the world. To say something imight be good but I don’t get it because it’s another language? Luckily, other countries have not said this. Your mind is not listening.

@@xlilliemarie6532 Yeah and you can take a guess where all those platforms you mentioned come from. Correct! The west. Even in Korea people don‘t call it kpop, but idol music. Kpop is a western term , because the west likes to put racial or geographical boxes on everything that is not english speaking or not from the west.
Edit: It doesn‘t even matter, if it is a genre or not. He can appreciate the music and the lyrics (or not liking it) without boxing it into kpop. To call it every two seconds kpop makes it look as if he is narrow minded and prejudiced. It also gets obvious when watching his other reactions, where he does not put such boxes on western artists.

Dude, one thing you gotta know about BTS' past albums, especially the series of Love Yourself and Map of the Soul, is that most songs follow certain themes or stories. Not just the fantasy story of the BTS Universe (BU), but a life story. It follows both their journey as people and as artists (also their BU characters' story, but there's no need to dive into that right now). I know, it's epic. But that's what it is. That's why most songs are either interconnected or continuous and it is laid out in their albums as tracks in that manner. So in some parts, you may not feel like you're getting the whole picture because seeing/hearing one song out of the album would only show the surface of its depth. Specifically, the Map of the Soul goes through the cycle/journey of self-actualization as theorized by Carl Jung (philosopher), and this song Interlude: Shadow is in the very middle of that journey.
Also, I've seen some of your reactions about BTS, and you keep mentioning how the lyrics and their poetic writing can't be translated fully, however, I would recommend Doolset's translations since she explains almost every Korean wordplay/nuance/cultural reference in her translations. She has a website that you can just search up. You can look up the translations maybe after or before listening to the songs or watching the MVs.

i think also having some background on suga, and knowing why he's saying that, "dont let me shine/don't let me down/dont let me fly/ Now I'm scared" helps some... because the part that you said was cheesy, I get chills and get emotional.
Suga has had problems with social anxiety and depression since before they debuted (and in fact, suga had originally just wanted to be a producer, never wanted fame), and it got so bad at one point that bts had to end a concert early in japan years ago because he was having a panic attack in the bathroom. When they started getting more attention worldwide, Suga got even more worried, because the higher they go, the farther down they have to fall... he even said he got so anxious about it he would cry. I don't think youve watched many of their behind the scenes stuff, but if ever you get a chance, you might notice suga doesnt emote much, he always seems nonchalant. So when he told army what was going on, we all got emotional because he never seems to...
Anyway, he's saying he doesnt want to shine or fly because he doesnt want them to get more famous but he doesnt want to be let down from where they are because he's scared of how far they have to fall. I hope this helps a bit if you have a chance to read it

First of all, I hope you realize that the ending transition where the phones on him, turn to the screen is showing people just a tiny snippet of what he feels every time he's in public. Yoongi (Suga's real name) has a social phobia and hates crowds so he's showing people what it feels like to be put on display.
Second of all, please get out of your stigmatized view of "kpop". Kpop doesn't fucking exist, the US made it up bc they couldn't acknowledge that other cultures make music that isn't sung in english. "Kpop" is an industry and it has numerous genres mixed into the music. Each band in the industry has a unique sound and incorporates different elements in their music. For instance, stray kids sounds nithing like bts. Astro sounds nothing like victon. All of these bands have different sounds and genres which literally means they aren't the same genre. Just because they're both Korean bands, doesn't mean they go under one genre.
P.S. Interlude: Shadow would definitely not he considered kpop in any way, shape, or form.

This really isn't cheesy, nor are the translations poor. He said don't let me shine but don't let me down. 2 juxtaposing sentiments that represent the dichotomy of emotions his fears & doubts are manifesting, making him almost want to freeze himself and everything around him. Shining brighter makes his shadows grow bigger (literally/figuratively); but falling from such a high state would be devastating, yet he doesnt want to come down since music is his life's passion and the fame is/was his dream. The song has 2 versions of himself, which he eventually tries to recobcile. It's literally talking about shadows in the mind, it can hardly be energetic; even if it is "kpop".
You just failed to understand the context of the lyrics because you have little exposure to their whole Map of the soul album which is based on the works of the psychologist Karl Jung (black swan is a part of it btw, to help set the vibe). The whole 'if it was in English' thing really discredits the efforts bts & their whole team go to when writing/composing. Plus they may not be confident in speaking English conversationally but they all have a pretty good grasp of the language, which is something any multilingual can relate to. Besides, many reactors have actually been able to grasp just how deep it is without knowing korean; & the majority of army aren't korean yet resonate very deeply with their work. I don't say all this to put you down, i just think you need to understand that putting bts or any foreign artist into a box won't help you understand them.

People like whatching reactions to them and as you say you always point how the lirycs can be different in Korea. Those guys have informations, knowlege and are BTS fans, I think you may like it. The chorus you thought was corny is prolly cause you didn't understand what he was saying: He's scared of shining, he's scared of flying, he doesn't wanna go down either. Meaning he doesn't want to be in that much limelight, he also doesn't want to go any higher than he is, but he also doesn't wanna stop making music, meaning he can't go down either. He just wants to stay where he is, he is paralyzed. But then his shadow comes out: you wanted to become a rap star and a king, that part you're so afraid of, that greed, that's you too. You wanted it. And I am you. You can't just shake me off. So realizing that he has that shadow and coming to terms that the shadow is part of him is what this song is about.

You seem openmindet, but you aren't. The way you mentioned in every second sentence, that it is KPop, like a hundred times. Exactly what on this track is KPop? Can you explain? What about Hip-Hop or Emo-Rap? Even more at the Chypher 2, you reacted to. It's weird, to hear you over and over saying "KPop...!", for a Rap...
And that the lyicism goes lost in translation... Hmmm, you sound, as if you have to convince yourself and your audience, that the lyrics aren't that good, because of the translation. But the problem is not the translation here. It is, that you don't know, to what you react to. Maybe you should learn first what the music is about. I mean, the album is called Map of the Soul... Plenty before me explained, what the Map of the soul is about, so i don't repeat it.
But, this reaction seems so superficial and full of prejudices, that i just have to say: first educate yourself and then watch and talk. Or is the only important thing here, that people pay for the things you watch, even if you can't understand it?

To begin with, you're wrong; it's not about self-doubt. Second, don't expect everything to be lyrical or laden with poetry, and then call it corny if it isn't?
K-pop isn't even a genre; after all, what distinguishes a song from another to be considered a K-pop song? It's an INDUSTRY, not a genre, and I despise the fact that you confine them to the term "K-pop," as if it's a separate entity from the rest of music. Even if you consider K-pop to be a genre with its own set of rules, BTS does not fall under its "boundaries."
BTS' music and music videos are diverse. Hip hop, R&B, EDM, funky pop, ballads, rock, and more can be found in their music. Music videos with high cinematic quality, such as ON, or simple MVs with no choreography, such as Life Goes On, can be found.
There are songs with significant implications in their lyrics, such as Outro: Tear. Others, such as Butter and Dynamite, have catchy and fun lyrics.
"Rating from a K-pop wise," you said. But what is even a K-pop wise in the first place? Why do you have to narrow them to your understanding of K-pop? Rate it from a music standpoint, it's that simple.
Even when talking about genres in an interview, Suga, the member you reacted to, has said, "I think it's less and less meaningful to divide music into genres now.
And when asked about them expanding and trying new sounds and what they see themselves as, V and j-hope said, "The genre is BTS. That's the genre we want to make and the music that we want. A new genre."
See? Even BTS does not want to be confined by the expectations that the music industry, particularly the Western music industry, has placed on k-pop.
You need to have a more open mind with no prejudice when reacting to BTS.

    • @SpaceshipCoop
      @SpaceshipCoop 3 ปีที่แล้ว

He doesn't need to have an "open mind" listening to this. If judging this by music alone, comparatively there is no depth to this of most BTS tracks. They aren't bangers for lyrical content. They are bangers because they are designed that way. To sell records. If you're looking for a channel that doesn't dive into everything lyrically, there are plenty of bubblegum channels for you. @@SpaceshipCoop Seems you don't know BTS. That is okay. But even Fire has surprising depth. That is literally what BTS is known for (that and their authenticity) and why they stand out among the rest of Idol music. No other act comes even close: Shadow is "applied Jungian psychology" as someone else wrote. They are not "bubblegum"... well... maybe the J3 dance break to the Butter Remix with Megan thee Stallion is but otherwise... not so much (well the 3 English ain't deep but than they didn't write them except the Rap in "Butter" (a light diss song)) 💜

@@SpaceshipCoop Did you even listen to the BTS songs he reacted to already? 😂 And about depth, there are Koreans making explanation videos even for their B-sides, that is how much of lyrical depth they hold. I'd suggest you to atleast be fully informed before forming an opinion of anyone, not just BTS but any musical artist for that matter!

@@muse0613 just because you're a fan doesn't mean your definition of "lyrical depth" is accurate or applies to BTS. Which it doesn't. Yes I watch every video and I've heard all of these songs before. Don't make baseless assumption off your preference. Nothing lyrical or incredibly deep about these dudes. That doesn't mean I'm not a fan or they don't make great music. If you think this is deep music, I feel bad for you.

@@SpaceshipCoop About assumptions, You also made one here that that commenter likes bubblegum reactions only because they listen to BTS.
Now coming to lyrics, Only because you aren't able to interpret it that way doesn't mean it isn't deep! And what is an "accurate" definition of lyrical depth when the interpretation is an entirely subjective thing? I mentioned about lyrics because you said there isn't any deep lyrical content in BTS music.
Please try interpreting shadow after knowing about the concepts of shadow, ego and persona.
You can listen to I need u and say it's a heartbreak song, interpret it according to their storyline and it turns out to be a whole different thing. Same for BST.
Listen to Baepsae or spinebreaker, watch it's explanation videos by DKDKTV and tell me how talking about social issues like socioeconomic divide and generational gap NOT deep lyrics? Also Strange by Agust D, the whole D2 album, Tomorrow etc. How is the wordplay in Ddaeng not genius even from an objective point of view?
What I mean to say is only because you don't see the proper interpretation, doesn't mean it isn't there. Sometimes there is stuff that you won't get just from literal translation. Also because we don't understand korean and they use lots of references for which there exists explanation videos. Please don't feel bad for me, and don't belittle my preference that way only because it doesn't match yours.
People here are trying to explain stuff because there are things you'll understand only when you connect the dots and because it's not expected of casual listeners to pick up on it. You should be atleast considering what the fans have to say because they know a lot more than you do, only because you don't agree with it based on the music you say you've heard doesn't mean it holds no value.
This isn't the only reaction channel that does lyrics breakdown, so you don't need to tell someone who has a different and more accurate interpretation or some kind of criticism that this channel isn't for them and then also put an opinion about the depth of BTS lyrics in the process, that is why I questioned you in the first place.

Why would I want to think about how I would rate a foreign language song if it were in English? I rate it how it is, no matter what language it's in. I listen to cadence, flow, rhyme, emotion, and if I want to, I look up a lyric translation. I allow for mistranslations/concepts that can't be translated fully, and I learn more about the culture or use my own interpretation based on context and emotion. Because it's art - and art is subjective and it doesn't need to be in a language you understand to be enjoyable.
Thinking about how I would rate a kpop song if it were in English is like saying how would I like bulgogi if it were a hamburger. What's the freaking point?

a shadow is the traits u surpress due to societal norms, as he's bigger and more famous there are even more things he has t hide from society. it ties in with the carl Jung's theory of the co-existence of the persona , shadow and ego in one's self. but to achieve the full sense of self you need to accept all three sides of urself.

Thank tou for reaction to suga
Daechwita also by suga or agust D (speeling backward is agus=suga: tD= town Daegu)
Well... The rapper line in bts are
RM, rap with his brain, he is word play genius, intellect rapper
SUGA, rap with his soul thats why his song are speak so deep, he is tongue technology, savage, strong, fierce and splits fire can curse with his words hits you, bold, many said he is rapper god in his unique way
JHOPE, rap with his heart, he is flow god, a free happy hip hop soul rapper
I like your humble the reaction and review "shadow" the song also corelated with Swiss psychiatrist and psychoanalyst
carl jung theory alter ego = shadow
Suga, once said in one of interview, " you will like bts music if you listen without prejudice"
They have their own reality show called run bts, now already episode 132 per march 10th 2021
Well.. Related with this shadow interlude suga song alll is from his mind, lyrics, beat just all, I have seen one of their reality show "run bts episode 56" at minutes 27:30 when suga/min yoonGi part share his poem also talking about their debut before and progress.. Here you "hear" also about suga's "shadow" song lyrics, then suga make it to this interlude shadow💜💜
You may watch dkdktv explaination about interlude shadow suga. How suga accept who he is as idol, as suga as agust d and as min yoonGi
They are dare to speak in their song about mental health noot just common ppl but aslo mental health for celebrity/idol/singer in kpop live facing bullied or even comment negativity from others or even from their own fear..

To understand Agust D's shadows, you have to listen to "the last" and "first love"
He said that he just wanted to write music and he wanted to be rich because he grew up poor. He didn't wanna be famous. In his song the last, he raps about coming to terms with his fame. Using success to compensate and block his shadows out. In dewichita, he names that self anger. Pls react.
This song is off map of the soul 7. RM has persona and jhope has ego. This is shadow. The concept of the persona, Carl Jung
The brighter the light shines, the bigger the shadow. You will see the shadows in on as well. They wanted those shadows to be prominent and filmed at that time of day.

I’ll be super honest, just like you are: if they rapped in English there’s a HUGE chance I would never even listen to it… it’s not that I’m only a Kpop fan (I’m not, there’s literally only 2 that I follow actively - the group BTS and the solo artist Kim Hyun Joong-, even if I do like many others, but uncompromising), it’s more like I did not think very good of rap (especially the MVs) before BTS… of course I knew there were exceptions and that we can’t label people’s as a whole based in just one little thing… BUT I’m human so yeah…
Only AFTER BTS I learned to appreciate the different types of techniques, styles, flows, fast/slow, soft/hard, wordplay and everything related to it. To the point that when a new song is released and the THREE rappers don’t get a good amount of time EACH to display their artistry I get a little upset. I even like it - or don’t mind at all - when they brag or cuss (before them? I HATED it)!
Plus I could barely understand what rappers said in my own language (Brazilian Portuguese 🇧🇷), it was just too fast, when I did understand I usually didn’t like the lyrics and even in the few times when I thought it was ok the MV’s were offensive (to me). The way I saw it, listening to it in English would just be worst. But when I got interested on BTS I was surprised to know they had rappers, their lyricism, personalities and backgrounds surprised me. Three very different, passionated, hardworking and honourable men. They were AMAZING and I was ASHAMED of myself. The pop, dancing, singing and their other contents allowed me to be introduced to it in a positive way, understand, admire and be more curious and ventures a little (on Korean, English and Portuguese). So yes, the fact they rap in Korean is actually a plus to me. 🤷🏻‍♀️🙃
Regarding the Korean barrier language… As I said, I’m Brazilian, so as long as I don’t have a problem with the lyrics I really don’t care which language is it. If I think it sounds good than I will look up the lyrics and that’s it. Why would one language be ok and another not? With that kind of thinking it would only make sense to listen to your own language then. And never expect others listening to yours. But we know that’s not how things works.
English is already a foreign language to me and I listened to it growing up. We’re the only Portuguese speaking country of America, so of course I also heard a lot of Spanish (RBD and others from Mexican soap operas). Portuguese and Spanish are close to Italian (emperor of classical music) and French (which my mom loves - Charles Aznavour, Alan Delon), so again I was a little exposed to those. We have a huge population of descendants of Lebanese (one of my best friends is) and Japanese (I’ve always loved anime and manga and I have an aunt and friends). History -> There’s also the influence of the natives and African slaves on the names and general culture. Some parts of the country also have influence of Germany and The Netherlands. In varying degrees, on each of our 5 regions, there’s foreign influences. SO to me Korean is just another one in the world. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Kpop is less of a genre and more so an industry. It's just an umbrella term for Korean music. You can just refer to BTS as BTS instead of including the whole industry with them as if all the music is the same. There's a reason why BTS specifically is popular and it's because they've defied the stereotypes that are usually attached to kpop groups and have forged their own path. From their lyricism, message, and even the way they present themselves. They write, record, produce, compose, sing, dance and rap. They're hardworking and genuine. You wouldn't listen to one Taylor swift song and assume all American music sounds like that and talk so generally about American pop, so it doesn't make sense to do it with kpop. All these groups are individual entities and shouldn't be lumped together.
