“Wheels of Fire” is my favourite because of two Cream songs, I’ve always loved: “As You Said” and “Deserted Cities of the Heart” , followed by their wonderful “Fresh Cream” debut, “Disraeli Gears”, and finally “Goodbye”.
Everything " Slowhand" was involved was fantastic. Sunshine of your live, Crossroads, Spoonful, Politician and White room are my fauvorite tunes. A great power trio. Excellente video Pete. Thanks

For me, their top 10 best songs are (yes I know some of them are old blues covers): Strange Brew Badge White Room Sunshine of Your Love I Feel Free Spoonful Crossroads I'm So Glad Politician Born Under a Bad Sign
Great to find a review of Cream as one of my all time favourite bands. When I was about 14 years old I heard Live Cream Vol 2 and it changed everything!! The live versions of 'Tales of brave Ulysees' and 'Deserted Cities' still blow me away and are arguably the spark and influence for a whole heap of hard rock bands that followed on just after they disbanded.
Very well said. I always think of Creedence & The Doors when it comes to bands with Enormous Success in such a short period. 3 Dog Night too. And remember, The Beatles were only around 8 years !
This one is almost impossible. All four, especially the first three, were absolutely brilliant; depending on my mood, they could change at anytime. Geez. Here's my ranking (for now): #4. Goodbye - obviously, this was going to rank at the bottom. Badge is clearly the best on here. Here it gets REAL difficult. #3. Disraeli Gears - The first Cream album I ever bought. Features many bona fide classics. #2. Fresh Cream - Fiery, passionate, tasteful and soulful. Not a single weak tune on here. I'm ranking this second, as I listen to this one a little more than DG. #1. Wheels of Fire - This ranks at the top spot specifically for the studio album disc. I never cared much for the live disc, to be honest. I always thought Cream were better to WATCH live, as opposed to just merely hearing them live, if that makes any sense. Nos. 2 and 3, especially, could easily switch places.
One of the greatest bands of all-time. Can't go wrong with any of their stuff. Those were the days is a nice "one stop shop" box set with studio and live material.
1. Disraeli Gears 2. Wheels of Fire 3. Fresh Cream 4. Goodbye - love those studio tracks, but only 3 of them. Badge of course featured cowriter George Harrison on guitar. Notice the similarity with the riff in the bridge to Here comes the sun. Anyone who hasn't seen it should check out the Documentary Beware Mr. Baker. Quite revelatory. I always though Jack Bruce was the A hole in Cream. I can understand why Ginger had a hard time finding people to play with him later in his career. Thanks for a cool ranking video Pete. Cheers.
Thanks for that Pete. Had they stayed together a few more years and put out a few more albums they could have been spoken of as the greatest rock band ever; but perhaps all that ability just couldn't be contained. Three fantastic musicians but Jack Bruce was the real genius. His bass playing controlled the direction and tempo and held the whole thing together on stage; his voice had a wonderful range and power; and an inspired and unique songwriter with the poetry of Pete Brown's lyrics. Jack went on to create the most interesting solo work of the three; developing the music that he'd started with Cream. His first few albums in particular are works of real beauty. If Eric and Ginger had given Jack the reins, then artistically and creatively Cream had a real future, but it wasn't to be. One of the greatest live bands ever, just on their playing ability alone, without stage tricks or effects.
Man, I wish Cream stuck around for longer! They are one of the greatest live bands of all time and their studio material is fabulous too, more brutish than just about anyone else at the time, and even today. Here’s my ranking: 1. Wheels Of Fire (1968) - as musically interesting as Disraeli is, this is even more so. Even without the magnificent live disc, this would still be my number one, and it would easily make my top 10 albums of all time. 2. Disraeli Gears (a landmark album in psychedelic rock and in the creation of hard rock and heavy metal! Still kicks ass!. 3. Fresh Cream (1966) - a very notable debut, but I feel like many of the songs reach their true potential when performed live. 4. Goodbye (1969) - not a bad album by any means, and I feel that ‘Doing That Scrapyard Thing’ and ‘What A Bringdown’ are fun and vastly under appreciated songs. chazblitz - No Spirit ranking I’m afraid as I don’t own all of their discography. However, I do own all of the Jo Jo Gunne releases and four members of that group were also one time members of Spirit - Jay Ferguson, Mark and Matt Andes and Al Staehely. Not a particularly successful or enduring band but Jo Jo Gunne released four decent albums in the 1970s - though ‘Big Chain’ (2005) was disappointing. I agree with Pete ranking.Four fantastic albums.Listening to Clapton is pure pleasure, a guitar legend that you can still watch live respect. Waiting for the ranking of the next guitar legend Mark Knopfler of course not a long but brilliant discography of Dire Straits. Thanks
To me Fresh Cream and J Tull s 1st album " This Was" are cut from the same blues/ jazz cloth. And they both recorded a song called " Cat s Squirrel". I saw Cream at a very small venue near Chicago in 68 ( the Cellar). I still have Ginger Baker s drum stick from that show.
@@andrewhaddon5510 - Ginger Baker was a Great Drummer. All the Greats will tell you that Tull had a Great Drummer, early on. Was it Barriemore or something ?
I've always liked Cream a lot. Here is my ranking: 1. Disraeli Gears 2. Wheels of Fire 3. Fresh Cream 4. Goodbye I have Live Cream and Live Cream Vol 2 on vinyl but not on CD.
How about Fairport Convention's "Sir B. McKenzie's Daughter's Lament For The 77th Mounted Lancers Retreat From The Straits Of Loch Knombe, In The Year Of Our Lord 1727, On The Occasion Of The Announcement Of Her Marriage To The Laird Of Kinleakie"?
Hey Pete, we got the worst of that storm up here in Maine!! Some of those wind gusts went past 60mph!! I stayed inside the whole day, and I was cold as hell!! BTW, *Disraeli Gears* is my favorite Cream album. 👍🏻
One of my favourite bands of all time. My Ranking 1- Fresh Cream 2- Disraeli Gears 3- Wheels Of Fire 4- Goodbye (However this album has Badge which's among the Cream's greatest songs.)
Pete, but how about their reunion live album from 2005? It's different, obviously, but still good, to say the least, what d'You think? Personally, I got to really dig Cream after watching those shows on DVD.
hope you did ok in todays stormI live in owego ny near Binghamton we did ok tho like half the county doesn't have electricitylove the show looking forward to hendrix
I bought,Those were The Days Box Set, everything they did plus rarities. Disraeli Gears is now available as a deluxe edition if you just want to buy that.
Hi John , yes I made the same suggestion , see above . I also have the deluxe edition of Disraeli Gears . I had forgotten I had it until I found it last night ! Cheers , stay safe .
No wrong answer on this but here's my guess: 1. Disraeli Gears 2. Wheels of Fire 3. Goodbye 4. Fresh Cream Sometimes with a group like Cream, looking back, people often aren't aware of how great this band really was. Either they weren't alive or there have been so many bands that came after them that they influenced that it gets lost. I remember hearing them for the first time. It got your attention because NOBODY sounded like them! Kind of like a kid in the 50's hearing Chuck Berry's Maybellene on the am radio for the first time. I definitely agree about early Clapton as I like the rock stuff better. I had Disraeli Gears back in the day and I remember getting kicked out of an empty classroom when I was playing the album while exams were going on. As to Clapton's playing, I like his work with Cream the best, though I haven't listened to John Mayall's Bluesbreakers. I like some of his work with the Yardbirds too. As to albums with Clapton on them, my fave has to be the Layla album with Derek and the Dominoes with Duane Allman. I didn't realize Jack Bruce played with Robin Trower. Why Dontcha by West, Bruce, and Laing was a good album, Jack playing with Leslie West and Corky Laing, both from Mountain. One of my favorite tunes that Bruce played on is Apostrophe with Frank Zappa. It was a jam session that Jack got in because he knew Jim Gordon who was playing with Zappa at the time.
Saw Ginger Baker live with Hawkwind at Preston Guild Hall England on the Levitation tour 1980 Brilliant concert , love you to do a Hawkwind ranking album show how many albums have they done ?
1. Disraeli Gears 2. Wheels of Fire 3. Fresh Cream 4. Goodbye All the albums are very good. Disraeli Gears is a great album. It has my favorite Cream song Tales of Brave Ulysses.
I also have those Grand Ballroom soundboard shows and they are just so powerful and heavy it’s ridiculous. I have tons of live Cream soundboard bootlegs. My ranking is- Goodbye Cream Fresh Cream Wheels Of Fire Disraeli Gears
Disraeli Gears Fresh Cream Wheels of Fire Goodbye I think Pete got this one exactly right. People always talk about how influential Cream was and in the next breath mention Clapton or Baker. If you're asking me, I think Bruce was the most important one when you think of the Cream sound. Whenever I hear a song that reminds me of Cream, the reason it reminds me of them relates to the bass and to a lesser extent how the bass and drums worked together.
Another great video Pete! I believe ranking lists are the best way to help introduce listeners to new artists/bands! Would you consider doing a ranking of either David Bowie, Lou Reed or Iggy Pop?

Also "Live At The BBC", the 2005 comeback concert on DVD & "Live At The Royal Festival Hall" (1968) DVD. The song "Tales Of Brave Ulysses" reminds me of "We Will Fall" by The Stooges (from their debut Elektra 1969 album)!!! The late George Harrison plays on the song "Badge"!!
My favorite band not named the Beatles. You ranked them exactly the right way. I would love to have seen what they would have produced if they had stayed together. They just toured constantly and it wore them down.
Masters Of The Universe "Sunrise On The Sufferbus" is the great lost Cream album. Not just because of Ginger Baker...the vocals are uncannily similar to Jack Bruce.

“Wheels of Fire” is my favourite because of two Cream songs, I’ve always loved: “As You Said” and “Deserted Cities of the Heart” , followed by their wonderful “Fresh Cream” debut, “Disraeli Gears”, and finally “Goodbye”.
Agreed. As You Said was always my top favorite tune from Wheels of Fire. Our rankings are damn near the same as well.
D T I’ve always been a huge Jack Bruce fan. I think “As You Said” was a preview of things to come, for his solo years following Cream.
Thank you posting this, here's my ranking:
1. Disraeli Gears
2. Wheels of Fire
3. Fresh Cream
4. Goodbye
Exactly my ranking too. I miss Goodbye yet
Yep, can't argue with your rankings.
Same here...
Yep. Wheels better than Fresh.
Yeah, my ranking as well. But I love them all, as most Cream fans do.
We're going wrong, an all time classic, that has forever flown under the radar.

Great albums. Yes opened for them at their last concert at Albert Hall.
Yes! Great! I was at a concert when Yes opened for Jethro Tull. First tour for Yes in America. Great night of music!

Love all their albums. Also Jack Bruce's "Songs for a Tailor" is brilliant.
I Feel Free, NSU, Badge, Toad and the greatest of all White Room.
" Songs for a Tailor " was Jack's brilliant solo debut .

chazblitz yes Sprit was great. Hopefully he does one.
chazblitz - No Spirit ranking I’m afraid as I don’t own all of their discography. Posted a playlist over a year ago on SoT which may be of interest. :D

Cream was Awesome !!
3 Virtuosos. Rush. Zebra. Cream. ZZ Top. Hendrix The Who. Zeppelin. Triumph. Great Trios.
Love the Marvel Shirts !
How were The Who a trio? Daltrey/Moon/Townsend/Entwistle. And Zeppelin, Plant/Page/Bonham/Paul Jones. Do you know the word trio means 3?
@@CB-xr1eg - Van Halen was a Trio with Roth. What instruments did Daltrey, Roth & Plant play again ?? The tambourine ? Like Stevie Nicks...
@@CB-xr1eg - How 'bout Jim Morrison ? What was he, a Violinist ?
@@elvisparker4691 ‘Trio’ quite obviously refers to a group with three members. Do the singers not count in your mind??
My ranking
1. Wheels of Fire
2. Disraeli Gears
3. Fresh Cream
4. Goodbye
YESSSSSSS!!!! You mentioned the Grande Ballroom bootleg! Best representation of the band!
...also YESSSSSS! VDGG is coming up!
I agree with Pete ranking.Four fantastic albums.Listening to Clapton is pure pleasure, a guitar legend that you can still watch live respect. Waiting for the ranking of the next guitar legend Mark Knopfler
of course not a long but brilliant discography of Dire Straits. Thanks
To me Fresh Cream and J Tull s 1st album " This Was" are cut from the same blues/ jazz cloth. And they both recorded a song called
" Cat s Squirrel". I saw Cream at a very small venue near Chicago in 68 ( the Cellar). I still have Ginger Baker s drum stick from that show.
Jethro Tull is Awesome, Phenomenal ! One of the Best Ever !
You're spot on with that observation.I've been thinking that for years it's like the same album even the back cover with it's Lith images.
Tull is Awesome. One of the Best Rock Bands of All Time. In the Sub Category :
Best Acoustic, Heavy Folk Rock
1. Jethro Tull
@@andrewhaddon5510 - Ginger Baker was a Great Drummer. All the Greats will tell you that Tull had a Great Drummer, early on. Was it Barriemore or something ?
@@elvisparker4691 Clive Bunker on the 1st four up to AQUALUNG. Barriemore Barlow on Thick as a Brick.
I think there is also a live Cream album of their only reunion.
Great job Pete, looking forward to the Hendrix ranking. Would love to get best of the post humous releases as there are like 30 of them....!
I've always liked Cream a lot. Here is my ranking:
1. Disraeli Gears
2. Wheels of Fire
3. Fresh Cream
4. Goodbye
I have Live Cream and Live Cream Vol 2 on vinyl but not on CD.
9:05 Actually the most bizarre title ever is Pink Floyd's Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving With a Pict
That one too!!
Mogwai have more awkward song titles.
@@seaoftranquilityprog SWLABR is pretty bizarre but maybe my fav Cream song along with Tales of Brave Ulysses !

This side explains why Hitler was a vegetarian.
Hey Pete - How could you omit the 2005 Royal Albert Hall cd/dvd. The best version ever of "We're Going Wrong".
Hi.
The guitar riff in Bage was from George Harrison.
My favorite Cream album is Fresh Cream.
Nice vid, this is my list: (from worst to best)
4. Fresh Cream
3. Disraeli Gears
2. Goodbye Cream
1. Wheels of fire
All of these are great, but I had to rank them some way, didn't I?
4) Fresh Cream
3) Wheels of Fire
2) Goodbye
1) Disraeli Gears
Thanks, Pete!
Hey Pete, we got the worst of that storm up here in Maine!! Some of those wind gusts went past 60mph!! I stayed inside the whole day, and I was cold as hell!! BTW, *Disraeli Gears* is my favorite Cream album. 👍🏻
My rankings are the same as yours. I love, love, love the Live version of Stepping Out off of Live II.
"What A Bringdown" is one of my favorites.
Great nitrous song.
One of my favourite bands of all time. My Ranking 1- Fresh Cream 2- Disraeli Gears 3- Wheels Of Fire 4- Goodbye (However this album has Badge which's among the Cream's greatest songs.)
Pete, the ballroom in Detroit where Dazed and Cream was recorded is pronounced "Grand-ee."
What a lineup Cream had
Pete, but how about their reunion live album from 2005? It's different, obviously, but still good, to say the least, what d'You think? Personally, I got to really dig Cream after watching those shows on DVD.
Killer album the 2005 live reunion
hope you did ok in todays stormI live in owego ny near Binghamton we did ok tho like half the county doesn't have electricitylove the show looking forward to hendrix
'traintime' on Wheels of Fire's live section is a ton of fun
I bought,Those were The Days Box Set, everything they did plus rarities.
Disraeli Gears is now available as a deluxe edition if you just want to buy that.
Hi John , yes I made the same suggestion , see above . I also have the
deluxe edition of Disraeli Gears . I had forgotten I had it until I found it
last night ! Cheers , stay safe .
No wrong answer on this but here's my guess:
1. Disraeli Gears
2. Wheels of Fire
3. Goodbye
4. Fresh Cream
Sometimes with a group like Cream, looking back, people often aren't aware of how great this band really was.
Tiny purple fishes
Run laughing through her fingers
I've always enjoyed Cream's poppier side as well. Wrapping Paper and Anyone For Tennis. That sort of stuff. All great.
(1) Disraeli Gears (2) Wheels of Fire (3) Fresh Cream (4) Goodbye
I seem to remember a double album called heavy cream. I wish I still had it.
Forgot to mention that there is a 4 CD box set of "Goodbye" which just came out of unreleased live material during their final tour!!!!
One of the most important proto-metal bands ever.
Live in San Diego 68 is an excellent album. Can't go wrong with Cream on any album
1. Disraeli Gears
2. Wheels of Fire
3. Fresh Cream
4. Goodbye
All the albums are very good. Disraeli Gears is a great album. It has my favorite Cream song Tales of Brave Ulysses.
I also have those Grand Ballroom soundboard shows and they are just so powerful and heavy it’s ridiculous. I have tons of live Cream soundboard bootlegs.
My ranking is-
Goodbye Cream
Fresh Cream
Wheels Of Fire
Disraeli Gears
I have a bunch as well. I prefer listening to their live stuff over the studio material.
Can't wait for the Jimi Hendrix video, any chance of a Stevie Ray Vaughan video at some point?
Hell ya, cream rocks
Disraeli Gears
Fresh Cream
Wheels of Fire
Goodbye
I think Pete got this one exactly right.
First Heavy Metal band . Skull crushing Power Metal at it's zenith
Since you went into the live stuff I'm surprised you didn't mention the 2005 reunion shows.
Another great video Pete! I believe ranking lists are the best way to help introduce listeners to new artists/bands! Would you consider doing a ranking of either David Bowie, Lou Reed or Iggy Pop?
George - Nice to hear a mention for the late great David Bowie. Haven’t got a ranking for the albums but have a playlist of favourite tracks. Posted this a while back on SoT with links for those interested in listening/watching. Hope that the links still work. :D

My favorite band. Fresh Cream is my favorite album
Dmitry Sobolin I’m So Glad I was introduced to that album 😉
Looking forward to that Hendrix show! I think I have every “official “ release and of course many unofficial 😅
Pete - as you might know - usually sticks to studio albums proper
NaughtyVampireGod in this video he said he will tackle live and also posthumously released material
Wery well! And "Blind Faith" to wich kind of ranking belong?
My favorite band not named the Beatles. You ranked them exactly the right way. I would love to have seen what they would have produced if they had stayed together. They just toured constantly and it wore them down.
Masters Of The Universe "Sunrise On The Sufferbus" is the great lost Cream album. Not just because of Ginger Baker...the vocals are uncannily similar to Jack Bruce.
