    Since i am not getting any younger, i sold my Yamaha Road Star 1700 cc that was way to heavy and bought the 2020 Speedmaster, and i love it, much more maneuverable, lighter and fun. And for us north american, the cruiser style (swept bar, foward peg position, ect... feels very naturel.

    I have owned Triumphs several from new for over 40 years, common theme, weld splatter, paint delaminates so suffer from rust if you do not dry them off quickly, cheap soft engine cases arrive new from showroom with poc marks in the casings, the casings are as soft as butter the nearest wiff of spanner near them leaves deep deep scratches in them. I love Triumphs and I always will, but quality, performance, comfort is not the things I normally immediately associate with them thats from purely owning several. The best way to experience a Triumph if you must buy one is buy it at the start of the season and sell it at the end of the season and repeat the process, that way you get the maximum bang for your bucks and least amount of pain. Yes you will get someone pop up and say their Triumph is lovely same as you will get people that like Morris dancing and their wrong as well, nice channel love the contents

    Shame it hasn’t got two dials like the bonneville 120!

  • @grahamtricker4103
    @grahamtricker4103 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That engine is the high torque version, so more low down torque than the high power version that is in some of the other Bonnevilles. Not only is it the best looking of the Bonnevilles, its one of the best looking bikes made today. The ignition switch is in that position because its were a lot of classic bikes had their ignition switch mounted. If you think the Speedmaster is difficult to manoeuvre in slow speed traffic then you should try a Harley Davidson Softail or one of Grand touring models. Thankfully, I am 5' 10" and 12 stone, and I don't have a beard, or trousers with turn ups... 😁

      @@michaelhayward7572 Triumph make a mid control kit for this bike, so it makes the foot positions identical to that of the Bobber. If you buy the bike new, or used from a Triumph dealer you will/probably get a deal on these. Certainly if you are buying one new. Retail the kit is £400 inc vat and the dealer fitting time is 40 minutes.

      @@michaelhayward7572 The only difference between the Speedmaster and the Bobber is the Bobber doesn't have a rear mudguard and a rear seat. That is the only difference between the 2 bikes apart from the forward controls. I've ridden one and it rides beautifully. Many think it is the best Bonneville Triumph makes.

    Looking to add the Bobber with apes as my second bike next to my R1250R. However, a new Bobber is $13,400, but it would probably be $15k with apes, a seat, and taxes. Hardly any used Bobbers, but there are two 2018 Speedmasters near me, both with apes. One is red with 5k miles, some Motone parts, and the brown quilted seat. The other is the two-toned paint, with 900 miles, the comfort seat, and windshield. Dealers are asking roughly $10,500 for each. I might be getting a used Speedmaster over a Bobber. Closing on my house on Thursday, so I’ll be purchasing soon after.

    I don't knoiw if I'm getting old or what but that looks like I could get on with it. Swap that trashy alloy cap for a chromed one and put a rear seat on it for me.
    I'm old enough to remember chrome clock rings and I'm glad it doesn't have them. Great to look at and no problem most of the time. Its just that one level of sunshine which really hammers your eyes. I would rather have the black but It would be nice if it was more finished than just plastic. Even just anodizing it would help.
    Nice to see you can appreciate it for what it is aswell, Chopsy. We all like to hammer a superbike but sometimes its nice to just go for a ride.

    No beard, No turn-ups, however I like this bike, I road tested one last year but ended up getting the Tiger900 RallyPro. The only reason was because I wanted to get some touring miles under my belt and as you say around 70mph you are hanging on like a kite unless you by the CHIPS style screen 🤔. At 5’6” the forward pegs were an issue although you can get it in mid-set pegs. Getting my feet down at stops was a definite great feeling, especially when comparing to the RallyPro where I am on the balls of my feet.
    I also just road tested the speed twin, which felt very narrow and quite hard on the suspension after riding the Tiger for a year.

    Lovely bike but needs at least 100bhp and corresponding increase in torque. Can't understand why Triumph de-tuned the engine so much. Needs twin chrome or brushed clocks as fitted to the Thruxton R /Speed Twin as this single black plastic one looks cheap and nasty. Needs a larger fuel tank. Needs better Brembo brakes. Needs a better saddle so that the default position is not to put you in a laid back slouch knackering your lower back. I found myself having to continually consciously sit upright as it kept reverting me to a slouch. But it sounds gorgeous, handles and steers beautifully and the over all look is gorgeous. I liked the beach bars having been pretty nervous riding it before hand. Once I got used to them they were a pleasure to ride with. If you are a shorty with short legs, you will need the pedals in the feet forward riding position adjusted to allow you to operate the gear lever and brake pedal. Fitting the mid peg conversion does not appeal to me. 70+mph and above you ideally need a front screen as at 80mph you are hanging on for dear life.

    Is this your own version of a Bobber H2R? Bars are two low, much prefer a set of shoulder high Z bars with mid controls. Put on a top box to hold all those pasties, fish and chips. Set up like that, it could be the perfect long range pasty/fish and chip hunter/gatherer.

    Great review and some good commentary. Nicely done. Honestly can’t say a fan of the bike. I’ve seen quite a few cruisers I’d take first if I was in the market for one like this. Some of the finishing to me is a bit sub standard and That key at the side is a bit crazy too. Typical triumph quirkiness.

    Chops, looking at the low down captures of the bike in motion, the exhausts look way too low to the road.
    Yeah there is the footpeg grounding issues, but I'd be just as worried about the cans going over speed humps etc..
    How did you find it on that score?
    Ps, did I detect some innuendo in this vid?
    With the throbbing and extra girth??
    Or was it just me??.👀😝😉

      Haha, the 360 camera does make it look lower, I know though that TMF also had grounding issues so not just down to a fatty riding 😆

    How did you get on with the gear change? When I test rode one a while ago it was quite difficult to get my toe under the lever because of the angle my foot was positioned. I'm sure it could have been improved with adjustment, but it was a test ride.

    • @LambChopRides
      @LambChopRides  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmm didn't notice any problems there and I have size 12 feet!

    • @alexmorgan3435
      @alexmorgan3435 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same as me. I guess you are short like me. Shorter legs mean you are more stretched out on it therefore your foot is at a steeper angle and foot levers need to be adjusted so they are higher so you can get your toe front foot under the lever to either change gear or effectively operate the brake pedal. After a couple of hours riding my left foot had begun to hurt from making gear changes. I looked at the connecting rods and they do look as if they can be adjusted but by how much I don't know. The dealer I test rode the bike from didn't seem that interested. Shame as I loved the bike.

    I don't get the laid back riding position - to me it just feels uncomfy with all your weight on your arse. If I was in the market for a retro with this engine the T120 is a much better bet imho. Or if you fancy the more modern retro the 1200 Speed Twin.
