  • I put together the most stacked home run derby in history to answer one question: who is the greatest home run hitter of all time?
It's a topic that has been and will be debated for generations. And while the argument can never be truly settled, today, with the help of MLB The Show, I'm gonna try to get an answer by putting the hardest hitters in history head to head to find the best of the best.

Bonds had one 50+ home run season, and only led the league in home runs twice over a 22 year career. His 2001 season is all people really remember. He wasn’t the best home run hitter of all time if you look at a rate basis, he was just the most consistent over a longer period of time. Mark McGwire had four 50+ home run seasons and led the league in homers 4 times in his 16 year career. McGwire’s career home run per at bat rate: 10.61.
Bonds career home run per at bat rate: 12.92. McGwire also had 4,946 less plate appearances than Bonds. If McGwire had as many plate appearances as Bonds did he would’ve hit 960 home runs.
McGwire is the true best power hitter of all time, and if I haven’t convinced you with the numbers I’d love to hear your argument.

The ideal way to win the home run derby is to hit line drive wallscrapers and also two 440 footers, because the game doesn't let another pitch get thrown until the previous one lands. Guys like Tim Locastro can win derbies at high elevation stadiums because of it.

Here is my comment to your video "short" about Barry Bonds and his secret to hitting. I offer it here, because comments are not offered on video "shorts".
Very few people know this or have connected the "dots" on why Mr. Barry was such a "great" hitter. Most public discourse on Barry Bonds has always been subject to criticism because of the issue of Race. Something Barry noticably helped create himself by his open disdain and disgust with the media in general, by his self induced reticence in openly talking and/or doing interviews. Especially once the STEROID Era and issues surfaced in the 1990's decade( primarily). So, without further delay, I offer this theory and opinion of Barry Bonds's " Secret to Hitting": Barry Bonds quite obviously ingested of took "steroids" or PEDs. It is obvious. In the video clip, it is mentioned that a hitter still has to HIT the 100+mph thrown baseball. Not something easy to do at all. But few know, that STEROIDS/GH/ and PEDs CAN and DO affect EYESIGHT!!!!!! A person can even develope hyper accurate eyesight BEYOND 20/20, even down to 20/10 vision! Now, stay with me on this. Couple that, with Mr. Barry using an Extremely HUGE padded elbow protector to take away fear from pain of a thrown pitch. Add to that, because of the lack of pain fear with a large Elbow, even Arm protector, Mr. Barry then started to CROWD the plate more and more over time. Partly because of his pedigree( his Father and his Godfather Willie Mays), and because Barry liked to invoke the "Race card", Barry's Strike zone became smaller and smaller and SMALLER over time.
Superior Steroidal induced hyper accurate eyesight, A HUGE Elbow pad protector, crowding the plate more and more fearlessly, playing the race card on called balls and strikes, Mr Barry "Fake Homerun King" Bonds, created such a small small miniscule strike zone for HIMSELF, that he could basically ONLY hit a Homerun, or Walk. THAT IS THE ULTIMATE SECRET OF FAKE HOMERUN KING. He was a super star player before all that. He( and many others of course) did these things for MORE MONEY and FAME. Barry Bonds created a unique Unfair advantage for himself. It is THAT, that is his REAL SECRET. period

Prime Steroid Giant Barry Bonds was, without question the most dominant HR hitter of all time. Guy was dropping 70 bombs WHILE taking 200 walks. Nothing ever like that.
He was a monster pre juice but his power game was in the 33 a year HR range, 40 to 50 stolen bases, and stellar defense.
When his head started to grow, I still want to know what exercise makes your hat size go up 4 or 5 non fraction sizings. But when his head grew, that choked up bat was the most dominant offensive threat in MLB history.
You can hate the roids, the era, and even Bonds himself, but you can’t deny that presence. Screw a derby, MLB pitching vs MLB hitting, Bonds was THAT dude.

I can say my favorite player (jr) would of definitely joined the 700 club if he stayed healthy. I'd like to think he would beat Ruth, but I'm unsure beyond that. Definitely the best swing!

Jr. Here is why. He missed about 3 seasons and still ended up with the number of HR je had! Figure 30 each yr for those 3 yrs he missed, so that is 90 more and that would have given him
    720
