  • Sorry to be late putting this up. We had some time here in Eagle River Wisconsin, so I figured it was a good time. Purchased this 2017 model in October 2016. Three long trips in it now and it is filling all our needs. Easy to tow, set up, and travel in.

    What a great job thanks to both of you. A no-nonsense tour without any drama. What a nice video to watch. I have been looking at the rockwoods and Winnebagos trying to make my mind up. I think I am going to go with a Rockwood without a slide and I want the murphy bed. Thanks for a really good video.

    Just wanted to let you know that we just purchased a 2018 Rockwood Mini Lite 2109s mainly because of your video. We drove over 200 miles from our home to pick it up. We just finished our first camping trip to Heber Springs Arkansas for 10 days and we love it. Thanks for all your suggestions and for sharing your knowledge about the camper with us.

    Great job reviewing your coach. Love the idea of cutting the sink cover. Going to look at that in the Spring. We have a 2015 Rockwood 2104S and love it for SO many reasons. The murphy bed is amazing and frees up so much space to be used during the day. Solution for microwave-I cut one of those swimming pool noodles to fit firmly against the ceiling of microwave and the plate. Works like a charm! We have looked at going bigger, but dont want to get bigger truck and I dont want to give up murphy bed! Great job on video.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Awesome! So glad you love your rig! :) Good thought on the microwave plate. If I find an abandoned pool noodle I'll snatch it and cut it up. LOL If what you have works for you, get your money's worth. The advantage for you is you can get more OFF the grid and into smaller State Park CGs. That has totally been my experience and we've seen amazing places a 25'er couldn't go. Have fun out there. Michael

    I have same RV only 2019 and we love it !
    I added a Max Air cover over vent above bed to keep rain out. Also on inside of slide the upper trim panel that spans the entire width pulled out when securing with clamp for travel so I pulled cover off and removed the 500 staples from factory and used wood screws to secure them reinstalled cover to hide screws with finishing nails.

      Congratulations! We love ours. Only minor issues really, no worse than having a home. You are smart to watch owner reviews, there are not a lot out there. Read ALL the manuals that come with it and that will help. Needless to say, be SURE you have a manual for every electrical and mechanical item in your trailer. TH-cam will be a huge resource for you for all kinds of things good and bad. :)

      Thanks. :) Yes, cutting the board makes a big difference. you'll not regret it. Use a thin saw to do it. It won't slide around as much. We hit some pretty rough roads from time to time, it had dislodged and been in the sink a couple of times but that is no big deal. We keep it very simple actually. Hitting the road tomorrow for Wyoming. Can't wait to get out there again. The 2507s is WAY big! *LOL* Hope you love that outdoor kitchen?

    Great tip on the Cable/TV button. We've had out trailer since 12/16 and never stayed anywhere that has cable but its still good to know. Also on the microwave plate, I cut a piece of pool noodle and wedge it between the top of microwave and the plate and it stays put. Cut two more pieces then sliced them length wise in half to the center hole (like pipe insulation) and clamp those on the refrigerator and freezer door to keep them propped open when its not in use so no mildew or mold develops.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the noodle tips. :) I have been wanting to get a noodle to put along the outside edge of the slide when I work on it so as not to crack open the noggin. That is a good idea on the microwave and fridge/freezer. Thanks for watching.

    We just bought one of these trailers. It will be perfect for us for our trips of 1 week to 8 weeks or so. What I really like is that it is perfectly livable with the slide in or out. Previous trailer REQUIRED the slide to be out in order to use the kitchen or even access the toilet. We do both frequently on the road...at rest stops, mall parking lots, etc. Plus, loading it in front of our house....can't have slide hanging out when parked on normal city street. And when its in storage yard, too. Very roomy and livable for a 21' trailer....and tandem axle. We tow it with a 5.7L Sequoia. Seems well made. Great value for the money. NOTE: 2019 models have a better couch for using as a sleeper. The previous 2018 model's couch is very comfortable as a COUCH...but pretty much useless as a bed. I am doing the suggested mod to the kitchen sink cover- great idea! I mounted two large plastic tool boxes on the back bumper. I store the slinky/sewer parts in one, the shore power cord in the other. Lightweight stuff. Great trailer!

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Super! :) I know you will love it. That IS a big bonus. We have spend many lunch breaks on the side of the road with the slide in and still room to eat and for the wife to nap. Also many nights sleeping with the slide in, still room to move around and go to the bathroom at night. Glad you liked the video. Be sure to look up "Forest River Rockwood Mini Lite fan club" on Facebook if you aren't already a member. We have a TON of suggestions and mods you can search for on the site. It is a great group and lots of insight into the trailer and campgrounds. Good idea on the plastic tool boxes on the back. Thanks for watching. Michael

    The brand new 2022 2109s models have a lot of cool new features that my 4 year old did not.
    The enclosed bellies are nice for many reasons...but I do miss being able to crawl under and inspect hoses, wires, etc. ....Can't do that now!
    One thing that struck me is the use of Azdel on the vertical walls....but the roofs remain wooden skinned. Conversely, my 2018 2109s uses "Lamilux" siding...luaun plywood sandwiched over foam, then fiberglassed and gel-coated. So far, no problems with that. I had a 2018 Winnebago Micro Minnie for a few months before I traded it in for the larger Rockwood...and THAT rig had THE BEST skin I've ever seen! Perfectly flat, smooth, glossy and shiny like a new Cadillac...not grainy or wavy looking like my 2018 Rockwood.
    I wish my 2018 2109s had that nice fiberglass front cap....snazzy! Mine has the rounded laminate front that was used for a few years...no problems with that and a GREAT front windshield- except that the painted, tan-colored vertical stripes are very subject to fading, despite my constant use of "303". BTW, please suggest to Rockwood that they standardize a light BLOCKING pull-down shade on that front window. My OEM pleated one just doesn't get the job done if there is a bright light nearby...or an early bright sunrise! I had to add a 2nd shade.
    I've had to replace all of the black vinyl screw cover trim strips...everywhere. All of it cracked down the middle and fell apart. Its cheap to replace and not too hard, however. The brand new 2109s models have a lot of cool new features that my 4 year old does not have. But- we've towed our 2109s all over the USA now and its had no serious problems whatsoever! And 3 trailers ago, we had a 2012 Flagstaff 25KS Micro Lite that we towed cross country and back twice with no major issues. I would definitely buy another Rockwood Mini Lite or Flagstaff Micro Lite!

    This is a great video for people like me who are in the infancy of trailer buying. One question and please don't think I'm kidding, but do you have something like a pre flight checklist that you use before driving off so you don't forget anything? Again, thank you both for all the hard work you do so people like me can feel just a bit more intelligent when we start to look for our first trailer.

      Glad it helped. What we do is separately furnish the camper with the basics.. Cooking utensils, pans, plates, silverware etc. Also with bedding already cleaned and put back in the camper. Toilet paper and cleaners. I have a list I use every time we pack to go. I've copied it in here for you. 3 columns that I have learned to print and check off as we pack (in case this format goes screwy when I reply). I highly encourage you to take a short 1 or 2 day trip for your first adventure. Make a list like below for yourself and start tweaking it. Before you know it, it will be a snap to get ready to go. Small containers with some of the things below can be packed in the house and moved right into their place inside the camper. Good luck and thanks so much for watching. :) Michael

    I have watched that floor plan evolve on many models. Fun Finder had it years ago back in 2008. But this one is more refined, the coach is just beautiful. I need a couple more years to be closer to retirement.... Great video and love the TV tray idea ! May I ask what you pull it with ?

      Hi Mark. Yes, we really like this floor plan. It fits us perfectly, lots of room for 2 ppl. I have a 2012 Nissan Titan V8 Pro4X. It has a towing capacity of 9,000 lbs. So pulling this camper at about 5,500 lbs loaded is no problem. :) Your last 2 years will go fast. Thanks for watching. Michael

      Hi Jackie. You could have an RV shop replace the front window and add struts and an opening mechanism. I'd hate to think what it would cost though. The windows are tinted that way intentionally so you have privacy during the daytime. They are pretty dark though. Thanks! We love ours too. Michael

      The windows open from the bottom and outwards. So the window when opened slants from top towards the ground. Good for rainy weather. Inside there is a knob you turn to open the windows. :) Hope that helps.

      Hey.. Greg suct it on a table saw. You could use a skill saw or regular saw. It is high impact plastic, don't worry about it melting at all. Use a thin blade when you cut it. There is already a bit of play on the sides anyhow. I would never go back to the big one again, it is so useful this way. :)

      Hey there. I was watching a video here and saw your post. :) I'm going to do a 2 yr post soon, but sneak preview. Not a thing we don't love about this unit. We have 0% regrets and cannot wait to get out again. We've done a ton of miles in it, hard shaking and rattling trips down dirt roads and places most ppl don't do. It is a great unit. :) I try to take care of my little abused camper and it takes a little bit of work, yes. But so minimal it isn't worth ever complaining about. Get a sturdy unit if you want to do off roading and take care of whatever you buy. Good luck my friend. Michael

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh.. Forgot to add, plumbing. no issues at all. I had one leak around a front travel light. It wasn't sealed well. I addressed that in a video. No matter what you get, you need to check the seals on the roof, any area you think water can come in on a periodical basis. I check my roof at least twice a year for any cracked seams or areas I think water may get inside. When I fill the fresh water tank first time after winterizing, I go around the outside and look underneath the unit to be sure there are no leaks as well. When the pump is on, it will shut off when pressurized. If we were not running water inside and the pump came on periodically, that would indicate a leak at some point. :)

      If you like FIRM mattresses, it's ok. If not, get ON the bed at the dealer and try it. We liked it for 2 nights. Then? TOO HARD. We put about 3 blankets on top of it, a 3" queen Foam Mattress (from Walmart) and a mattress pad. If you don't like the mattress, ask for a reduction in price 200-300$ and get your own. It is a 60x72 mattress if I measured right. Good luck. I know you'll love a 2109s! We completely love ours after 3 1/2 yrs and living in it full time now.

      You can find used models like mine. Circumstances force ppl to sell, some move up to larger rigs etc. The windows push out from the bottom and up. Not far, but meets our needs, like an awning so you can have them open when it is raining. You can get a topper for the Slide, yes. I don't like toppers, one more thing to break and I'm used to getting on the roof and sweeping it off. That also forces me to check the roof and clean off my solar panels for maximum solar efficiency. Have a great one out there and good luck! Thanks for watching. Michael

      Oh yes. That is ONE thing we love. Gotta go? Just pull over. The slide doesn't restrict the access to the bathroom. But other than that, I've also been looking at the 2104S, but wondered about the real life ordeals, not the usual sales pitch commonly found at the dealerships. Very simple vids, not real detailed. No camper on the road is "ordeal proof", I guarantee it. Nuisances yes, horror no, not for us. I have a 2012 Nissan Titan V8 Pro-4X. Hi, I am interested in this trailer. I like the floor plan and weight.
    Would this trailer be a good one for full time living? I was considering a lance 1995. I only plan on having it for a couple years and then sell it. So I am concerned about depreciation, but comfort is a first in priorities. I have plans after my rv life.
    I do plan on following the sun so as to not concern myself to much with extreme cold/hot weather...that’s the plan.
    Any comments be appreciated! Thanks

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there. Well I think you would be very comfortable in a 2019s or the Lance 1995. I just went over and viewed a dealer walk through of the Lance 1995. The Lance, I believe, is probably about $10k more than the 2109s. It is a very good model, the only reservation I had was the 3 small propane tanks. That was curious for sure. I don't know if it is just you or if it is a companion or what. Following the sun will be super in the 2109s. You will be paying more for the Lance since it is a true 4 season camper. What I'd suggest you do is look at this video I made on making a decision on what type of RV to get for yourself: th-cam.com/video/J-8KG7IhxTQ/w-d-xo.html Then, when you have made a decision, no matter what model it is, watch this video on what to do when you pick up your new trailer: th-cam.com/video/XMlSuTnG93Q/w-d-xo.html These two videos are the most important I think I've ever made. They aren't geared toward 1 RV at all, but informative on RVs. I honestly don't know the depreciation values of trailers. I will run mine as long as I can. Both of these trailers will do the job for you without a doubt. In 2 years, I wouldn't expect you to see much in the way of depreciation from one to the other. Keeping your RV in great shape will determine most of the resale value. I can tell you without any reservation, we love this 2109s. I do travel off road and I've given it a good thumping for sure. :) If I can help more, let me know. Michael

      Garland Style thanks for getting back to me quickly. You’re right, I like the amount of propane and the rockwood. I have seen those other videos, thanks for doing those. I’m in California, lance runs about 25-30k (depending on upgrades, they aren’t cheap) more than the rockwood. Thinking I’d rather do simple upgrades as I see fit. Gonna see one this weekend.

      TG. Thank you. Not really professional of course, owner review. :) For couples, this is perfect. Start adding one or two kids, it will get a bit cramped. One dog or cat would be ok as well. Each person or couple looks for different experiences of course. This one is a good starter unit for those that want a step up from pop-ups, vans, or tent camping. Lightweight, easy to tow, short enough to get in most all State and National forests, easy to set up and take down. There are other smaller and less expensive units of course, but I'd recommend it. No qualms or complaints of any size really. Nothing is perfect of course.

      Several owners have done just that Rob. Ours is wearing some, but I don't plan on doing recliners for now. I'll have to restuff the bottom seating area as well. Measure the base of the couch area, you'll notice it is elevated off the floor as well, take that into account. You'll have a flat base area when you remove the sofa, so measuring the chairs will be important. Rockwood has options to add recliners now. You may want to call or go online to Rockwood and find brands that fit and aren't too heavy. Sorry I just have not even looked into that before. Wish I had more info for you.

      Rob. I looked on TH-cam for comments about the couch. I found a video where someone improved the back of the couch padding. Here is that video if you are interested. I'll do some more searching as well. But this one may help you out if the couch is uncomfortable. We use two ottomans we got from Walmart for foot rests. This increases storage and is what makes the couch very comfortable for us too. I failed to mention that but it is in another one of my videos.

    • @garlandstyle5797
      @garlandstyle5797  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thanks for watching. I have not yet weighed the camper loaded with everything except water. Water is 8.34 lbs per gallon. A 40 gallon tank is 333.6 lbs, + 6 gallons in the hot water tank 50.4 lbs, plus a couple of gallons in the lines 16.68 lbs. Total water weight would be about 400 lbs. So I can figure out what that part would be. I intend, one day, to go by some scales fully loaded with all but water and get a weigh on total and hitch weight. Then I'll add the water weight. I travel either fully loaded with water or empty. It depends on where I'm going to stay. The black and grey are normally always empty when we hit the road. I'm lazy, we don't carry a lot of stuff really in comparison to many campers. I am weight conscious. I have an e2 weight distribution and sway system. I got it at the dealer when I picked up the camper. It was included in the cost of my purchase. I really like it. We have no sway, ever, with that hookup. Michael

We've since switched to a pair of 6 volt CR-235 batteries instead of the single 12v battery. These are roughly 80 lbs heavier altogether so I would guess my tongue weight is approaching 800 lbs. I was looking at this model and the 2104s and noticed that there are only two heater outlet vents thay heat the entire coach, one being in the bathroom technically only having one vent. Hey there. We have 2 heater vents as I may have pointed out. The one by the door on the floor... that one I use to blow some warm air into the bathroom by just opening the door and funneling it into the bathroom. The other by the bed, I tip so it point at a 45º angle up. When we have the heater on, like just a bit ago, it heats up well. When we are connected to shore power, I use the little electric fan. When on propane only, we don't suffer. tonight will be close to 30º. We just bundle up well and I'll turn the propane heater on to it's lowest setting. We have gone without any heat at all in the 40s at night. I did a video on that. "How we keep warm". Thanks for watching. I hope you are learning a lot. :) Michael
