The CrossAction Brush is a stationary brush it does not rotate or move from side to side.

You can use it without solution. This will not give you the best results, but will help in rinsing clean water through the machine.

Are the cross action brushes supposed to move from side to side or merely brush the carpet pile as the one on mine just sits still? I cant make out on any of these vids if they are moving or not! Thanks, Jo.
