IFC File Format Integration With Revit

With the inability to open a file saved in a later version of Revit, there are challenges when collaborating firms have different versions of Revit. The IFC format can by a way to open models in previous versions of Revit with minor limitations.

I just would like to make a small observation for potential newcomers to the subject.
Although IFC was used here as a workaround for the (in)compatibility problem between Revit versions, this is not the primary use intended for IFC files. IFC files are meant to be used for coordination purposes and, as a last resource, for editing.
Moreover, the IFC export settings and categories mappings from Revit to IFC were probably not configured. That's why some objects were assigned to the wrong category when the IFC was imported to an earlier Revit version.

thank you very much this was super helpful but i was wondering if i reopened the IFC file in the version that it was created in would it interpret the model properly or would it turn out the way it did in your video also if i required information included into the model by another consultant would this process works without information lose when i open the IFC in the original version it was created.
