I am a high school teacher, so we don’t get gifts often. Anything that reminds us that students and parents are thinking of us is great.

What about giving the mugs as prizes to your students when you get too many. And I mean new students, lol, not the one’s that gave them to you. I still have a couple mugs I got when I was a kid. It’s fun to remember how I got them and now I’m 48. I only ever get rid of new mugs or sets.

@@julicanizalesboller1078 There are a lot of cute things you can do with old mugs - including putting plant cuttings in them. I never have enough old mugs and have to buy them from garage sales and thrift stores.

I would never give away something that someone picked for me. Mugs can be used for small plants, pencil pen holders and much more. Those gifts are given from the heart❤️

I didn't really realize teachers received so many mugs. Last year I got erasable pens and highlighters and a small calendar notebook for my granddaughter to give her 3 teachers and the librarian. I think they liked them. I saw a teacher post on a mug collection video in the comments that one year she received 40 mugs including a few boxed sets. That's when I first heard that teachers received a lot of mugs. That was about 3 days ago. It's following me now lol lol 😆

Natalee, your bowl cover could be made into a cute cover for your cake/muffin stand so you could make several in seasonal fabric. So you could have one for Christmas, Valentines Day, Saint Patricks, Easter, Patriotic holidays, boy/girl birthdays, Thanksgiving, Favorite Team Sport or school colors or prints etc. Possibilities are endless!!! And you can change it up in seconds and it doesn't take up much storage space, either!!!

As a take on the memory jar, I've made small containers and made a box of self esteem. Make a box a jar, etc and on small pieces of paper write down things that you love or admire about someone. It could be: you always make me smile, you are so patient with the kids, you are such a good friend or other things like that. If it's for someone in the family you could have other family members add their comments as well. I think this is a thoughtful gift.

Excellent ideas. I used to organize the teacher gifts each year. I sent home a note asking for $15 to $20 dollars or whatever you think you'd normally spend on a gift, wrapping and a card for teacher - I got anywhere from $2 to $30 and then I would buy them all sorts of nice things as well as tons of gift cards. Parents loved it and the teachers were blown away. Gifts (gift baskets) included everything from gourmet hot chocolate to silver bangles and more. I did it for Christmas and for end of the year gifts. No mugs included.

@@staceykersting705 Great point! I grew up being careful like that. You learn how to walk so you don't look like a 'mark'. Makes for an different and more aware attitude as an adult. Oh, yes! Homemade bread has to be one of my favorite smells of all time.
When I was about 10, my Mennonite mother started baking to sell at the local farmer's market.
That venture morphed into taking over the entire kitchen, and all other available space nearby!
So, within a few years, a little bakery was built in the back yard.
I remember the months of September through December as the busiest time of year... we made about 700 pies and 800 lbs a bread A WEEK! (Besides all the other specialty goodies like Hermit Cakes, dinner rolls, cinnamon rolls, fresh coconut cakes, etc.)
A few tips for the lightest, fluffiest bread possible:
Knead your bread dough until it's smooth and stretchy. Yours looks perfect!
After putting the oiled bread ball back into your bowl to rise, turn your oven on and preheat to 100 degrees. As soon as the light goes off, turn the oven OFF. Then set your bowl of bread into the warmed oven. An oven light on helps keep the temp just right.
Allow to proof-rise until double, punch down... and then proof it a second time before forming loaves. This second proofing creates a much lighter and even crumb. And the bread won't fall as easily, because the dough will be a bit stronger.
After placing the loaves into the pans, set them back into the warm oven to rise.
The loaves will be ready to bake when a thumbprint on the edge doesn't spring back.
If the dough isn't finished rising before baking, the top crust will get baked, and then the pressure from the still-rising dough will break the crust at the weakest point, which is around the edge. But the rise will still not go as high as it would have.
Thanks for the video - it brought back so many memories!

That was nice of you to share your expertise on the subject. It sounds like your mom was a great baker. I watched a show on youtube once about why Mennonite businesses do so well. Long story short: its because they are such hard workers.
