    You truly have to make more videos like this one. Absolutely amazing. Because I’m from Germany and my dream is to be a commercial diver to. Videos like this open a world for me I couldn’t be in at this time and give me some little glimpse of what I’ve to learn if I’m going to a diving school. If you make more like this I would like to thank you so much. Maybe it’s the best job of the world.

I figured that since I had been a fisherman my whole life I didnt want to be fish food so I decided to hangout of a building 650+ feet above the ground instead of 650 feet below. Do these types of divers have to equalise the pressure? I've never used full face masks or helmets, only recreational diving where you pinch your nose to equalise. Always wondered about this??

    • @rannarlaur
      @rannarlaur  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, of course. Pressure is still pressure ;)
      Some of the masks and helmets have equaliseing knobs which go through the front under the glass, so you can push it against your nose and equalise that way. Some of them have just some pads inside and you have to press your nose against it. But it also differs from person to person. Some divers are just doing the same things you would normally do on the plane =)

    • @rannarlaur
      @rannarlaur  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What we were doing, was mainly air diving down to 50m. That means deco stops on the way back in the basket. We did also a bit nitrox diving, and surface deco with oxygen (in the chamber).

    Why waste all that time transporting him to the basket? Surely, it would be more prudent to surface him with the attendant pulling him up using the umbilical/lifeline? They're not deep enough to require stops. (Ex RN trained basic air diver.)

    • @rannarlaur
      @rannarlaur  4 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      You have an interesting suggestion, but try to see the bigger picture and not only stay inside this video and this particular dive.
      All of this is done in a school environment, where it must be safe to practice. That's why it is not that deep, but the depth of the metal table was between 15 and 20 meters. Every dive and every scenario was trained so that the same action would be performed regardless of the depth (surface supply diving with air for commercial divers is down to 50 meters). And even if we forget, that divers underwater are told what, how, and when to do from the surface, they are still humans who can get confused under pressure in an emergency. What I mean by that is that if you are trained only one way, then you will react that way. If there were tens of different solutions to an emergency procedure there would be many more difficulties solving the problem safely.
      Also, returning to your solution of just pulling him up, it would be extremely difficult to maintain and control his airways because, as you noticed, those divers are not wearing fins. They are using diving boots. Even if the second diver attended to the one in need, pulling them up with dry suits and with no actual control over buoyancy would result in two divers popping out and now needing medical attention. And here we are still not considering the weather, waves, surge, and so on, and the fact, that yes they would be on the surface, but there is still a good five meters from the surface of the water to the actual ground level of that diving station.
      Overall, you had a good train of thought, but this was actually the best way to handle this situation. As it is trained like that constantly, it should become a part of muscle memory. And of course, if you are diving from shore or a different configuration then you would have some different options. But commercial divers generally are trained to go back the same way they entered mostly because of the umbilical ;)
