    I kept a Venustus Cichlid in a 20-25 gallon hexagon tank about 16 years ago. Your videos made me realize how awful that was. I can say that I loved that fish who was with me almost 4 years and likely passed due to an ammonia spike. Fast forward to now, I upgraded from a 46 bow front to a 72 bow front so I can have peacocks. After watching this video of course! Thank you!!!

    Thank you so much for the informative video! I'm getting ready to cycle a 55 gallon tank with a 150g capacity canister filter. If my calculations are correct, this should support 10-12 Aulonoara cichlids. Does that sound right to you?

    Hi Richelle,
    As always, nice video.
    I have a question, I often hear that for male cichlids, you have to be careful not to mix cichilds with the same colour pattern. I mean some cichlids have so much colour it's kinda impossible to not have similar cichilds. Also, where i'm from, they only have about 10 different species (At least for the trustworthy stores). I was wondering, can I safely keep 3 male of each type of cichils? I'm thinking that having 3? I was thinking, if I have 2 of each species, then the dominant might target always the dominated but if I have 3, at least the aggression would be spread between the two dominated.
    Thank you for your help.

      @@QuebecCichlides i did..but i was hoping for a more clear answer since you stated 55 and up...however my the dimensions of my tank has a volume of 50.5 US gallons and i already have about 6 peacocks in there, so i was hoping you would give me a more detailed opinion.

    • @emilewihby3735
      @emilewihby3735 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Basically what i would like to know, is if the extra 4.5 gallons that i do not have would make a difference if i plan on keeping just a small number of them, such as the 6 i have right now.

    • @QuebecCichlides
      @QuebecCichlides  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If your tank is at least 4 feet long (or about 4 feet), you should be fine.
      6 is fine but you could add more if you wanted.

    O2 is the limiting factor in how many fish you can keep not how much water your tank holds the bigger the foot print the more fish the length × width not so much hight

    Will the fish thank me, or tank me? 😛
    Also, I would’ve thought a peaceful aquarium would be composed mainly of females and one or two males 😯 Guess my instinct is off !

    • @QuebecCichlides
      @QuebecCichlides  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your fish will definitely Tank you ha ha. Your fish instincts will come back soon ;)
      It's complex. For some fish it's better more males, and for others it's better to have more females.
      Not many people make full female tanks because they're grey.

  • @Spilorify
    @Spilorify 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    One question: Why is it that you guys in the states often only keep males? I get the part that males are one with the beautiful colors, but if you really want to see their true colors, add females. I mean, most of the “all males tanks” I see from you guys, have males with little to no colors, compared to when you add females to the mix.

    sorry but you don't have to do water changes everyweek I have 30 all male peacock and haps tank in a 125 gallon and they some big boys yes they poop alot I use a turkey baster and suck up the poop when it gets bad every few days and do 80 percent water changes about every 3 weeks and My fish are fine been doin it like this for years now I think the more u start doin water changes and take out the beneficial stuff from them they get stressed out so all my tanks is every few weeks and plus I have all house plant roots in my inside of my filters between the sponges I believe they help the fish and they strive on it 😀
