After ten years of marriage, the actress and Food Network star officially separated from her second husband in 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. The split caused a lot of speculation, including speculation that her relationship with her first husband, Eddie Van Halen, had something to do with it.
Bertinelli shut those rumors down, but that hasn't made her divorce any easier. Nope. She ran away from Eddie citing it turned into a loveless marriage. Eddie slighted her during Van Halen's induction into the R&R Hall of Fame, after she was with him through his drug issues, cancer, putting music before family, the STD's, to include her drug habit. Tom brought her into his life to try and give her the foundation of a marriage she longed for, she had trust issues (after accepting Tom's proposal), they separate, Eddie's life began coming to an end, Valarie shows that she never really got over Eddie, and was still emotionally married to him, Tom feels like a fool, and he's gonna make her pay for taking advantage of him.
If Tom can't punish her physically, he'll punish her financially. Had the genders been reversed, you'll be singing a much different tune.

Valerie has been famous since the 70’s and done so much series work, made for TV movies, product endorsement, you name it. I would think that she’d be worth far more then $20,000,000. The way she has carried on about Eddie, as if neither of them were married seemed insensitive to the feeling of both she and Eddie’s spouse.

I agree totally and would add that if friends and family sense something's not right about a guy it's bec they see something the woman does not. Lack of emotional involvement can sometimes provide an astoundingly accurate assessment of character and intentions. I advise everyone to introduce a guy to several people whose feedback is reliable for honesty, accuracy, fairness and tactfulness then get their impressions.

@@j.y.3604 spousal support can be based on need(rehabilitative, transitional support) but its mostly based on marital standard of living, ability of payor, years married, age of the parties involved(the older they are the more like they'll pay, based on how many years of work theyve got left) crazy right and other factors.
Example party A makes 30million, party B makes 50million you'd think they both got enough money to live how ever they like right? Nope party B is going to pay up cause he/she makes more!
Children have no bearing in spusal support that's why child support exists, whole different entity.
As for the prenup if done correctly meaning within the appropriate time frame, both parties where represented and it isn't unconscionable then it will hold up and if both parties agreed to no spousal support then it won't be awarded! Now even if they agreed to this before hand a judge still has the power to override said prenup if he/she finds it unconscionable(they sometimes do this when there is a large income disparity).
That's sadly how our justice system works he/she who makes more money always pays especially if the marriage is 5 years and up!

Like no sh*t, your husband was The Eddie Van Halen, where she's long admitted she did not like how his female fans would disrespect her while standing right there with Eddie, the untold number of times she caught an STD from him, the untold times she's caught him engaging with women in a manner a married husband should not, and asked the new man in your life to work with you while she pick up your pieces, not excluding she had a cocaine habit.

It's a strategy to get more in the divorce. She will probably cave to some of his demands in order to get rid of him. However, if she doesn't cave, courts will usually enforce the pre-nup!
I don't see what Tom lost or gave up during the marriage that needs compensating for at this stage. He knew Val was a public figure in entertainment starting back in 1975. Not as if he could legitimately claim a loss of privacy or his business or career suffered bec of her fame.

I think she finally left Eddie for the reasons you mentioned. In my opinion, Eddie was the love of her life though. As an Aussie, spousal support is foreign to me. We split what was acquired during the marriage and you go your separate ways, done deal. There's no milking of your ex for either party. If you have kids you contribute to their costs based on income.

Eddie was her first true love. They had a child together. Just because they divorced didn't mean that they still didn't love each other. When Eddie died it affected the entire family. Valerie, Wolfie, Alex, their friends and families. You need to have compassion for people instead of just judging them and being hateful. It makes you look like a mean jerk.
