Lionel Richie is a genius. He wrote this song which was one of the rare songs to be #1 for 9 weeks plus so many other hits in the 70's and 80's.
Lionel and Diana sang amazingly. Lionel was careful not to over sing and let Diana shine. This was a true Show Stopper!

This was the #1 song in the country for, I believe, nine consecutive weeks back in 1981 when I was a college freshman. It launched my love affair with Diana Ross' voice. I still love this duet.

This record was the biggest hit of both artists careers. It spent 9 weeks at No1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the Biggest US hit of the decade. The record only reached No 7 on the UK chart.

Diana doesn't get enough appreciation as a vocalist. No it wasn't a big voice but she's smooth and consistent throughout her registers. I love her falsetto range and she can belt too. Very pretty voice

Last year around this date I danced with my husband to this song for the last time. 😭😢. We were celebrating our birthdays. Talk about true pros....both of them terrific, and Diana's last note...sublime...plus the camera just loves her. Magnificently special.
This is not an easy song to perform, but these two amazingly talented performers nailed it live and in front of an international audience of a few hundred million people. Unlike so many performers whose live performances pale in comparison to their carefully augmented and enhanced studio work, Mr. Richie and Ms. Ross sound as good live as on their recording -- with Ms. Ross adding a couple of touches that were even more exciting than her dazzling work on the recording. Both also look and comport themselves like the stars and legends that they were in the process of becoming. It is just a beautiful performance in every respect.

Diana Ross and Lionel Richie, at their peak, were the Dorothy Dandridge and Nat King Cole, respectively, of their generation..."Endless Love" has to be one of, if not the greatest, love song ever written.
That and "Lady" by Kenny Rogers.
This is such an incredible performance. No technical experts on hand to fine tune their voices, and this is a very difficult song to sing. They recorded and sung this song live in such a high register and the only others who have dared to take this on was Luther and Mariah. Great they were but it doesn't compare with the artistry, chemistry and smooth beautiful vocal that Miss Ross and Mr Richie. Forever one of my favourite songs and one of my favourite live performances. Thank you so much for posting X gorgeous memories of two amazing legends

This song is so great. It sounds like a song of two people currently in love but really the melody of the song feels like a sad song. It's the type of song that haunts you when you have met your endless love and she has gone away. In other words, time is finite but love is endless. One of my favorite performances! I love the tension and the subtext happening here, so wonderfully performed by both. We referred to her as "Lady Di" in my home growing up. One of the fondest memories of my youth is sitting at a table close to the stage at Caesars Palace in 1984, I kissed her hand and smelled her fragrance. I was done!
This is what was/is so great about Lionel Richie: he GAVE the divine Miss ROSS the show, the stage per sé--and there is NOTHING wrong with that! He composed the song and wrote the lyrics. He’d never performed a duet with another (at that point), and when recording the single, with minimal time, his partner felt compelled to sing “his” part. As any great teacher/artist- you will adapt and modify. If it’s truly in your heart, that’s JUST WHAT YOU DO. He did for the recording, and if you really notice, during this LIVE performance he does it again. It could have been an act (and if it was, it deserves an award all its own), but when Miss Ross, takes the stage, she seems a bit trepidatious, almost shy. As the song goes on, I feel it’s Lionel who maybe “spiritually” endorses and supports her to change little units of the song to make it FEEL, just a tad different to the recorded version. Ugh! This was really awesome to see and hear, and I thank you, thank you, thank you🙏🏼🙌🏼 for uploading this. My soul needed a good cleansing.
