    I have canoed that stretch of river many times. Never fished it before but you have inspired me to do the same trip! Great video

      It's a beautiful stretch and the best part of fishing the river is you never know what you will reel in!

    Hi from Randi’s Adventures! ❤️ I love camping on the gorgeous St Croix River. Camped at Interstate State Park WI last month and hiked along the River with magnificent views.

    Ive caught a filthy pile of pike and muskies off that same rock formation 9ver the ladt 25 years.noy sure what theyre doing sitting over 55feet of water but shad or some forage must be up there holding them

    Use no net for pike but one for the bass 👌

      It's a pretty small net. I've netted Pike in the past and once they get around 28" they don't often fit great in that net.

    You need to bring an 8 weight fly rod

    • @MitchBradshaw
      @MitchBradshaw  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh man that would be fun! Ive got an 7 weight Redington. I am pretty rusty on the fly fishing though. What would ya throw - black wooly bugger or leech?

    what part of the st croix is this? looks awsome to kayak

      It is an awesome stretch to canoe and kayak! We put the Kayaks in at Interstate Park (MN) and our take out point was Marine on St. Croix (16.1 miles downstream). We paddled and explored for 2 days and camped one night on this trip.

    You should camp up by Hinckley in the st Croix state park. I went there to camp I and fish and it was great or you should go a kayak and fishing and camp up on the north shore

  • @joncase9879

    Have you fished further north near Norway Point?

    • @MitchBradshaw
      @MitchBradshaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Jon, good timing. I actually put in at Norway Point last Friday on a camp & paddle trip. We took out at the Hwy 70 Bridge on Sunday and camped at a site on the river a few miles north. The water was a lot lower than this time last year. I fished a swimbait and topwater on the way down and it was really slow. Only 1 smallie and then some Redhorse from the Campsite.

      Mitch, I’m doing that same trip Saturday. I’m hopeful to get a few hits but given the water level I’m not too sure. I’ll drop a comment after the trip to let you know how it goes.

    • @MitchBradshaw
      @MitchBradshaw  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@joncase9879 Nice, good luck!! I was the only one fishing in the group so I didn't fish too hard on the float down as I didn't want to lag too far behind. For me I was looking for some deepish (4-6fow) near the shoreline. Admittedly it may have been a little cold for a topwater as it was only 39-40 degree air temps when we launched. Main River water temp Friday was between 55-58 for us.

      @MitchBradshawOutdoors that’s good to know. It’ll be warmer (fingers crossed) and we’ll be canoeing down. But knowing you weren’t having too much success with top water lures makes me think something more in line with a Mepps might be the way to go. But who knows 🤷🏼‍♂️.
      I’ve never fished this stretch of river though, so we’ll see how it goes.

    Hey bud! Love the video, definitely subscribed. Whats your rod set up?.. as it seems to work well for you from the kayak

    • @MitchBradshaw
      @MitchBradshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The spinning setup I was using was a 7'1" Medium X-Fast with a Shimano 2500 reel. The baitcasting setup I used most of the time for topwater was a 6'8" Medium Heavy with a Shimano Curado. Both setups had braided line.

    • @MitchBradshaw
      @MitchBradshaw  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh and the shore fishing setup was a 6'8" Medium X-Fast rod with a Shimano 2500 reel. Also braided line and a bottom rig. I attached some bells to the tip of the rod to help with bite detection.

    Is this on the close slu part or something? I’m trying to find exactly where this is but the main part of the river looks super wide compared to what’s in the video

    Great video! New sub here. I canoed that stretch before. Fished a little bit and caught a nice size smallie. Wind coming out of the south was brutal though, made it for a rough paddle downstream. Bought a kayak last year and hope to fish this stretch again this year, will definitely upload a video of it. I live in the twin cities area so lots of great spots to fish and create content. I really enjoy river fishing. Got a couple of videos on my channel if you want to check it out. Keep up the good work!
